This is a new pool hall in Mobile. They had a $5,000 Guaranteed purse tournament and it was more than successful.

There was over $7,000.00 in the First Calcutta.

There were more than 90 players in the tournament. Entry Fee was low, race 7/5.

LOTS of top players: Schmidt, Hennessey, Townsend, Stone, Hilliard, some guy named Jason Jones who played like burning hell, JayBird, Jerry Brock, Richeson and many, many others. Lots of fun, lots of gambling.

JoeyA got his ass handed to him by his two young road dogs who traveled with him. I was tempted to leave them in Mobile.

THIS IS A ONE DAY TOURNAMENT!

And it is a MONTHLY TOURNAMENT!

I'm exhausted and going to bed. Hennessey had the hot seat locked up and that's all I know besides Jaybird coming in 5-6th.

Joey,

All I can say is WOW, WOW, and WOW! That kind of coin in a one day tournament every month sounds mighty fine.

As for the young pups, let them buy the gas and drive you home. Us old folks need our rest. :D :D :D

OK, I slept for about 4 hours now.....

The coin operated Valley pool tables were $.50 per game.

The cost for going to this tournament is probably one of the lowest cost in the country:

Hotel/motels are close by and are inexpensive.
Plenty of restaurants nearby as pool room is in a shopping center.
The tournament was run FAST! Yes, it took a long time to run almost a hundred players through the gauntlet, a good time was had by all.
We planned on getting a hotel room, but the tournament kept rolling, the action never quit and we just stayed and stayed and stayed. :D So we didn't even rent a hotel room: even more money saved. Lol

LOTS of unnamed top players there and many players had a chance to knock off a top player in this event.

Some additional bright spots: JoeyA has been seen playing like a dog for quite some time and some of his old sparring partners are getting very friendly. :p Some of the old competition I used to have has slithered through the grass and are now alongside of me, smiling, saying nice words and in essence, looking for a game with me. They know how poorly I am playing and are eager to fill their pockets with my gold. It's all good and I am happy to share. This trip I was unable to share but I had THREE offers to play, none of them were stealing as you might guess. (I think Johnnyt has wizened up some of my old foes are maybe they just see my poor play. As word spreads that I can't even beat my road partners who never had a sniff at ANY of the money at this tournament, there will be plenty more offers. Yes, I new day has dawned. JoeyA now has a bullseye painted on him and everyone knows that my days of skillful play are far behind me but my pockets are lined with unspend Katrina dollars looking for a new home. Ahhhhh, life is abundant and full of joy.

Congratulations to Bear and Bogard for putting on a phenonmenal first tournament in their new pool room.

Oh yeah, a word of advice: Don't try to skip out on paying your pool time. :D:D:D (No, not me and not my road dogs) ;)

Joey,

It's nice to see that you are giving back to the game after you have gone past your days of really being able to play at a high level. Donating back to the players you have parted from their coin over the years and mentoring the young players who need advice on both pool and life from a kindly elder father figure like yourself.

You are the kind of representative that makes me proud to be a part of pool!

so sad

joey ...

tears came to my eyes learning how poorly you are playing. i just hope you don't lose the farm, the title to your car, your cuestick, your sense of self-worth.

it seems so unfair how people are taking advantage of you? it just makes me want to stomp my foot!

try to ... well, i just don't even know what is left for you.

sunny

maybe if we took up a collection? no, you have too much pride for that!

I know Mr. Helfert will be reading this and headed your way Joey so go to the bank and make a big deposit before he arrives and stick to your guns and get a real good bullseye size spot.--Leonard

Sunny,
Weep not for those who test themselves in billiard contests and fail. The tears should be saved for those unfortunate souls who will never taste the flavor of victory or defeat.

No collections please. Just sympathetic, yet postive thoughts will do. :D
A few larcenous persons with big bankrolls sent my way would be nice, too.

Lucky Joe (knows luck runs in cycles & just hope that the funds hold out to the next cycle).

You know it Leonard. The big stroke man will be bellying up to the table at any moment. You should listen for the howl. :D

Nice try Joey, but no sale! Give me one ball, just one little ball. I go to seven and you have action. Or we can play some Banks EVEN!

Anybody got the results ?

Anybody know who cashed in the tourney ? Jacob called me the next day & said he left round 6:30 am and they were down to like final 8.

Joey, I will be in Alabama at the end of June. Please can you tell me when the tourney is going to be played? i.e the last weekend of the month or has that not yet been decided. Thanks.
