Rags to Rifleman

Just a quick FYI, although I do have a partnership with Buddy on DvDs I have no part in the book at all. I'm not selling it or taking orders for it. I just saw it was in demand and let Buddy know and then passed the info back to the forum. I am sure if he follows through with a re print everyone will know where and when it can be purchased.
On my other post it was a mistake, I mean't $70.00 not $7 :)

I just had my local library put in a request to transfer the copy of Rags to Rifleman from the Library of Congress. They said it might be a couple weeks before they even tell me if they are willing to lend it out. I didn't think they'd even consider putting in the request but my librarians were very helpful.

Let's see if this works... If it does, then I'm gonna have a lot of reading to do

Yes it can take 15 days with the request.

Maybe JAM Could Check Library of Congress and let everyone know if it available. Along with info on Eddie Robin's Books.

I have a signed copy of Buddy Halls Rags to Rifleman for sale in good condition. $110.00 shipped anywhere in the U.S. Call Gary at 909-856-1762.

Buddy and me

This was the best pool book I ever read and I hated for it to come to an end. I bought it for $60 on ebay and sold it for $89. Loved it, Loved it, Loved it.

If this book is really that good I say it should be a MOVIE !!!

I collect the stories of pool. True or fiction. But I don't have this one.

I would buy one if they are printed for sure.

I got to know Buddy a bit on the Florida Tour 80's - 90's.

Here we are at Baker's Billiards in Tampa.

I will never the time I was ahead of Buddy 10-5 going to 11 at CM's Place in Seminole. It was sunday money round too.
Now CM had these Gandy's that sucked into the rail all the way around. I mean it was crazy. You could hit the long rail a bunch of times when rolling a ball down the table. On either side no less !!!

So I had a shot on the case 9ball. 45degree angle into the side pocket from the opposite long rail where the CB was froze of course !
Knowing the roll off I DID try to over cut it a bit, but it still hit the first piont and rolled down in front of the corner for an easy shot for Buddy.
He ran 2 more from the break. Then the next time I got up I was in jail.
Kicked at it, don't remember if I fouled. But I know Buddy 3 packed me because I never got out of the chair till it was time to shake his hand.
He looked me in the eye and said "You really had me there".

Add a Addendum to Book

Buddy should write a addendum to his book and tell about how he dumped in the International Challenge of Champions.
This would add value to the book and he could charge more for the book..
Collectors would want it.

There is a copy now on Ebay that looks a little worn. It's at a $170 open and a $190 buy-it-now with "free" shipping.

Thanks Bob but I still think that's a little pricey and from what I hear about the font size I would probably get a headache from all the squinting.

So someone asked me to borrow my copy, but that copy is inscribed by Buddy to Bob Byrne so I'm not willing to lend it out. However....

How many here would be willing to pay $20 to borrow "Rags to Rifleman?" If there is sufficient interest, I'll set something up.

That's just silly for a paperback to be going for that. Especially while Buddy is still alive. If I had the rights to this book I would run another edition off.

Lol ... you may need a security deposit as well. :groucho:

My suggestion to Buddy would be to have someone professionally digitize his book and sell it online at $25 to $30 each.

Less money invested by comparison to printing another edition. And much simpler.

surprising

...although the reasons given are that it's out of print and a "rare book"....
it still makes me scratch my head about the cost of the book, especially now that somebody has said that the print is substandard (sizewise)....No disrespect to Buddy, because he is def. one of the all time greats, but would any other pool book about other great players be so expensive if they were out of print? This also makes me wonder why other great players and gamblers don't do books of their own? Books I would buy and read would include biographical or autobiographical by Earl, Keith, Nick Varner, Johnny Archer, Mike Sigel, Billy Incardona, C.J. Wiley, and some others I can't think of right now, but you get the idea. Actually, the book I would really like to read would be about all those who participated in the Rack gambling days in Detroit.

JAM is working on a book about Keith but I think it'll be a while. Maybe until she retires. Writing a book about anything or anybody is quite a project. I was asked about writing one about a player several years ago but knowing what it would require I declined. It's a full time thing and I was still working at the time.

All suggestions like this assume that Buddy has some right to publish the book. I don't think any of us knows that. The copyright of the book is in the name of "Huckleberry Publishing Co." of Nashville. According to an on-line record, this is the only book Huckleberry ever published.
