Random Philippine musings

That's not the case at all. I'm just tired of dealing with total idiot's in a business setting. Day after Day, Year after Year. Not ALL, but 95% seem to have a Jr High Education.

It's perfectly acceptable and expected to hire employees by their looks/age/sex/height???? If it were the USA....the ACLU would have the whole country shut done. Let's not even mention OHSA...whew...Everyone is doing heavy construction work in flip-flops. Steel toed boot's??? "What is that"? Hard Hat....???? And these "skilled" workers are making about 300P a day...if he's lucky.

It's like Sodom and Gomorrah. Let's not even talk about the bar's. Politics. It's impossible to get elected Mayor in Olongapo City...unless your last name is Gordon...or Magsaysay... A person could be retarded....as long as he/she has the correct last name...you'll win the election. It's so corrupt. Buying votes???? If you mount a serious opposition.. maybe another Maguindanao Massacre? And the world in general turns it's cheek to this crap.

The longer I live here, the more frustrating it is. Us old time ExPat's...we have a saying when someone starts fuming about how the PI is consuming its self..."Remember where you are". And it's not funny.

What the F does any of your writings have to do with POOL in Jay's topic. Can't you just start a topic like "Why I hate my life in the Philippines" and stay there and have fun? Clearly there are several people that like your negative posts about your life in the Philippines but you can say almost anything in the Non Pool Related area and have some followers. This thread clearly isn't about what a bummer life is for you.

I understand that you don't like the touristy all roses posts and I agree but take it somewhere else please.

Hang on. This is not the Ministry of Propaganda. Neither is it the Filipino Tourist Board.

Other views are allowed, whether they relate directly to pool or not.

Yes they are allowed, if done in Pangit's own thread.

To crap all over Jay's thread is in bad taste.

I thought the British were keen on manners, wouldn't you know this?

I'm on my fifth Volvo. I'm into comfort these days. I really, really like the seats in the Volvo. They're great for long trips, so comfortable.

Congratulations on your grandson. I really admire those who have strong family values. This is a man's world, but it wouldn't be nothing -- nothing -- without a woman or a girl, as James Brown would say. ;)

Wishing you and yours much happiness in the coming years!

Jam, I've been driving Only Volvos since 1976 when I got my first 1800E Green with brown leather seats... that I had in Long Beach, back in the days of Costa Mesa Hard Times and Kieth. Then I had a 144S, 142E, 73 144, 83 245, 89 245 and Now my grandpa car, a mint/garaged 1991 740 with only 110,000 on it in perf shape, and I'm with ya, the seats are the best of most any car, cept maybe a Cadillac Deville 4 dr, which is like being in your living room. Oh yeah, I ran repair shops for 17 yrs and Volvo was 5 of those yrs. Any questions, on the Older ones with the 2.3 4 cyl engine, I'm your go to guy.
And I think this yr should be dedicated to the women of the world, more good is created by a great mother than even a good education so to speak. ''Year of the Women'' 2012....I'm all for it.

There is nothing better in this world then a good, honest woman.

Let the men be men. Let the women be women. Be happy!

I don't mind pangit's posts. I really don't see the problem. So what if it's complaining? lots of pool threads feature complaining. But it's interesting to hear first-hand experiences of life in a country 8,000 miles away. I don't think he's looking to ruin anything, just to add another perspective.

Jay's a big boy, I don't think anything in this thread is going to make him cry and quit posting. I look forward to the next one.

Jay only crys when someone kicks his rug under the counter ;)

Of course, and we find it bad manners to deny someone's experience on a thread called 'Random Philippine Musings'.

Yeah well Jay is talking about his pool/Billiard experiences. Not about Johnny Rocket interior design!

It's AZ Billiards - HELLO!

Yous guys are wasting more bandwidth B#tchinging than the posts you are B@tching about:D

just sayin . . .

Wish you would have posted earlier, I may have been able to see you. Are you commentating on the World Cup tomorrow?

I hope they provide microphone for the players. It would be very interesting what they are talking about every play. I am sure people would laugh if Efren was talking to Django. Or Alex talking nonsense? Imagine if there were microphones during the time Dennis was partnered with Gomez, that would be funny! The crowd would go nuts!

Wonder why there are no ladies joining? I was hoping jasmine would have played for Austria.

Yeah, I'm working today and all week. I get to do the Philippine 'B' team (Efren and Bustie) match today. The 'A' team is Orcollo and Van Corteza! Hopefully you'll be able to watch it on line somewhere. This is one of the best tournaments of the year! Of course it's live over here on Solar Sports and also shown live across most of Asia. I'm not sure about Europe though.

P.S. Pangit doesn't bother me a bit with his random musings. We just have a different experience, I'm not nearly so thin skinned although I can get exasperated at times myself. I really could care less if the construction crews are wearing hard hats (most are) or not. I see them scrambling around like monkeys on the catwalks and scaffolding and no one ever falls! I have a feeling that when the Egyptians built the pyramids, they weren't wearing hard hats either.

One thing he failed to mention is the wonderful service you get when shopping in the malls here. Walk into any store and you will be immediately greeted by more than one employee, quite willing to help you find something and hopefully make a purchase. Handsome and attractive young people wearing neatly tailored uniforms are in all the businesses, even the small kiosks in the walkways. SOOOO unlike the USA where you are lucky to find a store employee or even a cashier to pay for something. I know it's all about employee payrolls and benefits, but that says more about the ills of our society that we can no longer employ proper staffing, even in major retailers. If we could somehow find a way to fully staff the retail giants in America, most of the unemployment problem could be solved. Twenty years ago department stores had full staffing in all departments, not three people on a floor!

Once again, we have a different point of view. Yet he still chooses to live here. And I keep coming back over and over again. For me the bottom line is the affordability, friendly people and all the pool I can eat! I can overlook for the most part the inconveniences of life here. No question this is not the USA, more like being in Mexico. But English is spoken here as well as the native languages and communication is not a problem. The weather tends to be warm to hot every day, which I greatly prefer over cold weather. Still not as hot as Vegas or Phoenix or Palm Springs in the Summer. My attitude remains you have to take the good with the bad. There is no nirvana on Earth, at least I haven't found one yet.

One other thing, I see little discrimination here of any kind, the people very accepting of all lifestyles and cultural differences. A woman just walked by and gave me a big smile. I like it here! Why not!

I've had a foot in both camps long enough to not care about the gripes of the expat - nor the wonder of the tourist, for that matter - but this really does wind me up - I HATE the service you get in the malls. I would much rather be left to browse in peace than have an army of spotty youths follow your every move. I know they are trying to be helpful but it is bloody irritating to have a parrot on your shoulder the whole time, when you're merely killing time, avoiding the rain.

I've never had a problem telling them to buzz off, I'm just looking! After that they keep their distance.
On balance I prefer the level of service I get here, when looking for an item of a certain size or when I'm ready to pay for something. I like that I can quickly find someone who will look for the right size shirt for me, and take my purchases to the counter and make paying for them an easy process.

warm weather, pool and corruption. Perfect sign me up.;) j/k I'm on my way!!! America is over rated, I have enjoyed the years i spend outside of America more than the years I have lived in America. Zimbabwe is great, the poverty and corruption there gives the PI the 5-out and its still a great spot(I coiuldnt live there there now, its too brutal). There is no place perfect, there are problems everywhere-its how you deal with them that makes the difference.

thanks Jay for the updates, ave fun and enjoy your time there.
