Realistic looking imitation Ivory?

The title says it all......lol
I'm thinking of a new years resolution (Non-Ivory cues)
Is there a man made imitation Ivory that is truly realistic looking, with a grainy look?

Ages ago, a man wheeled a cart full of rounds, flats, various other shapes of some cool looking white stuff into the BCA trade show. Bob Meucci captured the pile I believe and it was never on the market again.

Yes there is. Let me look up the web site for you. If I can't find it because it is book marked on my other pc and I am on a slap top, I will ask Jim Baxter. He knows where it is.

The site is generally knife maker supplies and such, not a cue supply site.

Well, that was easy. Masecraft. have a look around as they also have many other interesting materials.

The imitation ivory that they sell might be a little brittle, just like Meucci ivory but it does have the striations in it just like ivory.

Jimmy Baxter knows more about this stuff than I do. I believe that he has used this and I have to make an order. It is most likely much more durable than the Ivory that I have in my Meucci. Give him a PM if you want to know. From the description, it sounds pretty durable.

Ivory bar.

These would not be big enough for butt caps or joints I don't think however for
inlays this does look very much like Ivory, hence the name.

Sure Mike, like where are you going to find a Mammoth these days.

Unless yer willing to go to Edmonton Alberta where my ex lives.

Camel bone. Do you have to get them aroused first?

Which reminded me, I still have a full moose rack in the trunk of my car still. I forgot about that after I bought my truck and parked the car.
Have to bring that out and start cutting.

No moose in Nevada Mike. I can send you a pic if you want to see what one looks like. They're from Canada ya know. The beer is, not the Moose.

What does Gina cue use for their butt caps?
I have seen many people swear that it's ivory but it's not.

Interesting that you heard/saw this.

I remember some older Meucci's with white inlays that looked exactly like ivory.

I was impressed by that material, whatever it was.

I always knew it as ivorine. I believe Atlas used to sell it.

I still have some for ferrules.

Yep, Ivorine. I have a sneaky with a Ivorine ferrule on it that i play with right now. Its very hard to tell the difference. But I do prefer Elforyn. Kikel once told me why he preferred to use Elforyn instead of Ivory for joints and ferrules and all the steps he goes through to test a new batch before he uses it on a cue. Sold me.

Whatever Ernie uses on the low end Gina cues is excellent. It is often mistaken for ivory by those who don't know.

I bet he would share exactly it is, but it looks like ivory including have some "grain" to it.
