the way he said it there are like 200 players make a live in tourneys.
I think it would be a bit easier if we narrowed it down to American pool players. The pool economy in Europe and Asia is just so much healthier than it is here. I would also like to know what "a living" is. Are we talking about being able to afford a roommate situation or paying off a mortgage?
yes i dont know what he means either.
i know this there are about 10 to 15 guys in the us i wont play thats it.
so lets see this list and hell ill play all of them after say 12.
The majority of pool folk, if not ALL, that make a profit are people like you. You can be sure that the pro players themselves aren't getting fat from staying on that tournament trail and being tournament soldiers. Why do you think they have savers? If there was money in pool, savers wouldn't even be considered.
Even the industry members in pool today are suffering, which is why only one or two American pros are sponsored with money (not product). Only one or two American pros can afford to play pool in a tournament in Qatar.

Pool is what it is, a recreational game. The leagues are where it's at today. Weekend tournaments at regional tours are also fun. Are they money-makers? Nope. But they are keeping pool alive. :smile:
Go to any so-called pro event and look in the stands, look at the numbers. I don't care if the tournament is in Galveston, Verona, NY, Vegas, Norfolk, or California. The two exceptions to this rule would be Hopkins' Super Billiards Expo and Greg's Derby City Classic. :wink:

I could elaborate about the infighting that exists today, but everybody will continue to follow the pied piper blindly. Someday that pied piper may cease to exist for pool when reality smacks them in the face. :frown:
Ten years ago, I was very enthusiastic about pool. After I got hit with the sad reality of pool, when I was chewed up and spit out by industry member(s) who I had helped for FREE, when I accumulated pool credit card debt, when my business suffered, I finally saw pool for what it is: a rich man's high.
Nobody can survive in pool today without money, and the ones with the money will call the shots from here on in. Nobody in these United States is getting rich off of pool. To make a living off of it, you'd need to rake in well over $100,000 because one-third to 50 percent of what you win is eaten up by expenses. Don't believe me? Ask a pro player who goes to two, three, and four tournaments every single month. :wink:

DrmikeUSN....... If gambling has hurt pool.. why hasn't gambling hurt poker?Poker is gambling...yet its all over the place.
As for those that think pool is dead .. maybe in your area, but I can find a tourny or there are plenty of action matches EVERY night of the week between Newark,NJ and Philadelphia. In addition, Pete Fusco in NE Phil. has just LOWERED his tabletime to $3 anytime for seniors and I think $4.50 / hr regular. He did this to "help out his customers in this economic time". In addition.. the Hopkins Super Expo is so packed every year, you can hardley walk a straight line. In addition there seems to be more cue makers now than ever. Who is buying all these cues... and where are they playing ( "if pool is dead"). Last I heard if you want a cue made...you have 1yr..2yr..etc waiting time.
So to keep saying pool is "dead" or "has no future" is very negative and subversive. Rather why not be upbeat and positive and report where your local tourney's are and keep a positive tone. If by chance a "sponsor" does read these forums do you want them to see positive notes on pool or negative impressions? Remember you only get ONE chance to make a FIRST impression. I kind of lost my faith in pool after the IPT.
I mean, when a man sinks several million dollars into the sport, gets slammed by many within the pool culture, as small as it is, for his efforts not adhering to the way they deem he should have spent his money -- HIS MONEY -- then loses seven figures for his efforts, it leaves a sour taste in my mouth. I stand in the minority on this forum for thinking this guy tried to do something good for pool. LOL :grin:
Today I accept pool for what it is: a recreational game, nothing more and nothing less. If I can have fun with pool, the better it is for me and mine. :smile:
I used to feel just like you about 10 years and $150,000-plus ago.
JAM.... I'm sorry this feeling has left you. I am working to keep this feeling everyday especially when I read this forum, and love it MORE everyday. I will do my best to keep playing and support pool as long as I am able. I hope others will not loose interest as well. Best of rolls...

First off let me say that I agree about the "dump scene" in TCOM, BUT I think your statement about Pete Rose is way off base! I know of no one in the greater Cincinnati area that "hate Pete Rose" and he never dumped or did anything to change the outcome of a game! He merely bet on baseball, and yes he bet on the Reds! Never against them! Never tried to shave points to hit a "gapper" or anything of the kind! I went to school with Pete, graduated with his brother Dave. He may have had, no I'll say he did have a gambling problem, but he never cheated to win! He just bet with his heart and while it's considered "unethical" for anyone in MLB to bet on baseball, he did nothing immoral IMHO! What he did do was show America what it meant to give 110%! Pete wasn't even close to being the most talented ball player but he did try harder than anyone else in the game!

I agree with ya 1000% sherm....Rose had too much heart to try and cheat to win money...and he sure as hell wouldn't dump for the $$$, man had too much pride and respect for the game. I know it was a rule about the gambling and all, but I still and will always believe it is a travesty that they don't put him in the Hall of fame...but yet they have McGuire, and others names and in the future Bond's name on the ballot. Want to guess who made more a year when Chris was undercover, him or the #1 player on the pro tour list? I would love to see you go interview every single person Chris won a nickel from when he was UC and ask them what they think of him! I will bet not one of them says anything other than he is a class act. Sure, some raod players are donkeys but you can hustle with class and dignity. You are way off base with your comments. The players he is thinking of live in a van down by the river or live in a cardboard box and ride Greyhounds to tournaments.
Hustling is on the same level as stealing. While that may be ok with you and a few others on here, the mass population who arn't watching pool think is slimmy. And there right.
