Results from World Ten Ball Championships

Alcano, Pulpul and Van Boening lost as well.

Noooooooooo! De Luna also lost his first match. My dark horse is off to a rough start. lol

Another shocker, Shane lost his first match to Anh Tuan Nguyen 8-9.

EDIT: Nathan beat me to it.

Looks like Alcano lost too. Now Alcano is matched up with Pulpul (lost to Archer) in the losers' side. Things don't look good for my dark horse (Pulpul).

The loser of the first round only have to win 2 matches to qualify for the last 64 single elimination ... not a big deal.

...granted the toughness of the field this year, winning back to back matches after a first round loss isn't exactly as easy as you're making it out to be. lol

You don't get my thoughts. By reading this thread I had the impression that some people was thinking that by loosing the first match it would be a long, long, long way on the one loss side (like it is at the US open).

To qualify for the last 64 you have to win 2 matches on the winner side (first round and second round). And if you loose the first round you have to win 2 consecutives matches too on the loser side. Yes it would not be easy but it is only 2 matches... not 15 or I don't know how many to reach the finals of the US Open after a first round defeat...

Makes sense. I agree that it's certainly a more forgiving format...although either way, it won't be easy to survive the group stages.

Should be interesting to see how it all pans out :)

Sure it would not be easy to survive the groupe stages  the field is at a very high level

I don't know if it is a more forgiving format than the US Open, because double elimination is only for the group stages. Last 64 is single elimination, there is no room for mistakes from this point !

In the Group Stages, there are sixteen Groups of eight players. You must win two matches before losing twice, to reach the Knockout Stage. So a win, a loss and another win will do it. Or a loss and two wins. Of course two straight wins is the easiest way through. Four players from each group will progress and four won't make it.

The good news is that these are not abbreviated matches. A Race To Nine in Ten Ball is a good length match. Nevertheless some good players will not get through this stage. Several groups have five and six strong players in them. Overall I'd say the field is stronger than last year.

We are now about one and one-half hours behind schedule. So tonight may be a late one for us. Things will smooth out tomorrow as it is scheduled to be a day with fewer matches.

Dueul VS Cohen

Corey was on the hill 8-3 a few minutes ago. Stephen has been making a comback. It's now 8-7, with an open shot on the 1ball.

Could be a good finish.

(live on stream #2 right now)

EDIT: Now hill-hill

a tournament this big in stature are to be a true double elimation tournament.not a modifed single elimation its not fair to a plaYER THAT HASNT LOST TO GET PUTT OUT OF THE TOURNAMENT TO A PLAYER THAT HAS ALREADY LOST ONCE.

Life is not fair, I am not there :(

That's debatable.

Look at this years US Open.

Mika won his first match, then lost the second. He then went 15 straight wins to beat Souquet in the finals. Now if it were true double elimination and Souquet had a chance to beat Mika after his first loss, and did win, would it be fair to Mika after having won 16 matches to Ralf's 8?

The point is that a player must play twice as many matches to climb the B-side after an early loss. It's harder to win from that side of the bracket.

Im not saying you're wrong...I'm simply stating that no format is perfect. Players know the rules before entering, and since everyone is treated fairly, I see no need to argue the format.

wow , unbelievable !

stephan cohen, the man who came from far far back to beat mika immonen in the world 14.1 final has done it again. not a final match but to come back from 8-3 down to beat corey deuel is another notch in his gun handle. i hope he does good now. takes advantage of this start. i was impressed by his play in the 14.1 final and then the emotional conclusion topped it off. it made me a cohen fan !
