Revamping Don Q's Pool Hall in Santa Barbara

A few months ago Jeremy and Andy took over the "Don Q's" pool hall in Santa Barbara. They contacted me about doing work on the tables and helping them build a respectable pool hall. They had (3) Gold Crown 4's, ABC china made carom table, Valley 7-foot and 4 miss matched home tables that were hurting. Immediately we started looking for a Gold Crown 4 and replaced one of the missed match tables, replaced cushions on the other 3 Gold Crown's and switched the cloth over to TB Simonis 860HR.
A few months later they replaced another table with a matching Valley, replaced the cloth to Simonis and rails to Ridgeback rails. We just put in another Gold Crown 4 a few weeks ago and they let me trick this one out: subrail replacement with 4.5" pockets. Were currently working on a Gold Crown 2 Carom table which will be ready within the next 4 weeks. After that they plan on replacing the Valley's with Diamond 7-footers. This place is really starting to come together. These guys are really making an effort to have a nice pool players pool hall.

Gold Crown 2 Carom Table

Here's a Carom table that will be in there soon. Trying to get this table to match the GC4's. Here's some work refinishing this table. It took a while to find this and one foot was in the grave.

We had a great Pool School there about a year ago. Looks like they have done a lot to improve the room.

Maybe they will invite us back for another School??????

I'm glad to see these folks aren't fooling around. There's quite a large group of people who play pool in the area. They have 26 BCA pool teams in town and I believe Don Q's has 4 of them. I'm sure the locals are glad to have a real players room they can go to sharpen their game. I know that room has been there for eons and, at times, was a little rough around the edges. It looks like things will be looking up at Don Q's.

Also, if you ever stop in, be sure to pick up one of their T-shirts with the pool shark on the back.

The shirts are awesome, one of my favorites.
 
Finished the Carom Table

Just got the carom table in yesterday. Now all the tables have been done. Here's some picts of the carom table.

We purchased a set a lazy susan leg levelors to match the GC4, nice bonus for the mechanic too.

Thank you, hoping to get a little respect from the local carom players. The table that was there before was a chinese carom table that sold for about $1500, it was a joke and many players refused to play on it. This Gold Crown 2 carom table has the original Brunswick Monarch cushions, that are still playing outstanding, and dressed in Simonis 300 cloth

Nice refinish job! If you were closer I'd send all my GC refinishing to you. All your work looks great, as usual. I like your use of the angle iron to get rid of the frame sag...:thumbup:

Jay, I sure would like to take full credit for this table, but I contracted out the refinish work.

I do wear safety google when using power tools. Recently Tom at Global had a carbide bit come off a blade and land in his eye. When you know someone that has an accident it keeps you from getting lazy. I even started wearing respirators when using bondo and spray glue.

I have your posters and will be in Laguna Niguel on Wednesday, I'll give you a call.

Bummer, I'm working in Gardena on Wednesday. Any chance you might be able to stop by for a few minutes and say hello to the guys on Saturday?

No substitute for safety goggles, they even come in handy when picking up a blind date....provided they're the ones used for welding....that you CAN'T see anything through...don't want to hurt your eyes any ya know. If you don't have any handy, a blind fold works great too;). Good job Donny:D
