well here is my 2 cents, i am sitting here reading the pros and the cons of it all, and thinking about how much i would have loved to do this and see the US when i was younger and had a little money saved and played every day and pretty sporty at that, and action does make you play better, especially if you are relying on it to get by. They arent the first people to do this, and i am sure wont be the last, even though it is kind of non traditional way to make money and probably not a lot of it out there. There are many professions that are similar, look at the musical profession, some of the biggest bands or musicians hit the road and didnt make a lot of money, and eventually made it bigtime. At least she is living her dream, even if its just for a short while, and all of us that wanted to be "roadies", are living it vicariously with her by her posts. Granted i hate to see her do it by herself, she needs to be very carefull, but she is pretty smart and uncle sam trained her, shes no pushover, she can handle herself i am sure. Also its her life if she feels like its worth the risk to live her dream, then so be it. Some people are just built for this stuff,i couldnt do it i like my own bed too much, but to her every day is a new adventure in another place. Really what she needs is to get a sponsor from one of these billiard companies to travel to tournaments, thats what all the pros in any sport do,get sponsorship and travel and play the sport, even if it takes several small sponsors to do so. Actually since Gene is under the weather, she should know his gig well enough to travel and teach perfect aim to people, since he isnt right now. I always used to tell guys that played A caliber pool that they could teach people in any room the basic skills or the finer points of the game and get paid to do that, why not you have a skill, use it to make some cash with it. The bottom line is, she isnt starving i dont think, and she seems to be at least breaking even, hell thats hard enough to do out there i am sure, thats like winning, and seeing the US and doing something she loves, even if it only lasts a short while of if it becomes a career. BTW Rhea i played you at the Ryno room in Kokomo,In. and you said you didnt play one pocket, fibber, lol, but thats ok i could tell you had played some, you cant play for 25 years and be hustled if you not an idiot. I agree with the other posts, you need to stay places until you milk all the action you can, hell i could have lined you up games for a couple days in Kokomo, in Indy you could have stayed in action for a couple weeks or more. Hell you play right at my speed i would have played you some ,and several other guys maybe, but you said right off you didnt want to play for money. You need to scope out the room before you play and line up the easy action first and then work your way up, thats the hard part is telling how much weight you need to give or get to get a good match up. There are some guys in Indy who have some dough and love to play, and think their game is better then it is,big egos, that you could have won some good cash from. I am sure lots of room are like that, dont even take your cue in at first and just hang out and play video games and watch the speed of the players and figure out who you need to play first and line them up. They used to call that clocking the action, figuring out their speed..lol. you could learn a few moves from some good hustlers, dont show your aces until its a big score thats for sure. You need to hook up with Big Arm John he knows the players ,the moves and has the money to stake you, and he can protect you too. thats what you need, nothing against Gene, but you need a stake horse. The guy that owns the Brickyard is a millionare i believe, there you go.
