Rhea the new Chapter, without Gene

well here is my 2 cents, i am sitting here reading the pros and the cons of it all, and thinking about how much i would have loved to do this and see the US when i was younger and had a little money saved and played every day and pretty sporty at that, and action does make you play better, especially if you are relying on it to get by. They arent the first people to do this, and i am sure wont be the last, even though it is kind of non traditional way to make money and probably not a lot of it out there. There are many professions that are similar, look at the musical profession, some of the biggest bands or musicians hit the road and didnt make a lot of money, and eventually made it bigtime. At least she is living her dream, even if its just for a short while, and all of us that wanted to be "roadies", are living it vicariously with her by her posts. Granted i hate to see her do it by herself, she needs to be very carefull, but she is pretty smart and uncle sam trained her, shes no pushover, she can handle herself i am sure. Also its her life if she feels like its worth the risk to live her dream, then so be it. Some people are just built for this stuff,i couldnt do it i like my own bed too much, but to her every day is a new adventure in another place. Really what she needs is to get a sponsor from one of these billiard companies to travel to tournaments, thats what all the pros in any sport do,get sponsorship and travel and play the sport, even if it takes several small sponsors to do so. Actually since Gene is under the weather, she should know his gig well enough to travel and teach perfect aim to people, since he isnt right now. I always used to tell guys that played A caliber pool that they could teach people in any room the basic skills or the finer points of the game and get paid to do that, why not you have a skill, use it to make some cash with it. The bottom line is, she isnt starving i dont think, and she seems to be at least breaking even, hell thats hard enough to do out there i am sure, thats like winning, and seeing the US and doing something she loves, even if it only lasts a short while of if it becomes a career. BTW Rhea i played you at the Ryno room in Kokomo,In. and you said you didnt play one pocket, fibber, lol, but thats ok i could tell you had played some, you cant play for 25 years and be hustled if you not an idiot. I agree with the other posts, you need to stay places until you milk all the action you can, hell i could have lined you up games for a couple days in Kokomo, in Indy you could have stayed in action for a couple weeks or more. Hell you play right at my speed i would have played you some ,and several other guys maybe, but you said right off you didnt want to play for money. You need to scope out the room before you play and line up the easy action first and then work your way up, thats the hard part is telling how much weight you need to give or get to get a good match up. There are some guys in Indy who have some dough and love to play, and think their game is better then it is,big egos, that you could have won some good cash from. I am sure lots of room are like that, dont even take your cue in at first and just hang out and play video games and watch the speed of the players and figure out who you need to play first and line them up. They used to call that clocking the action, figuring out their speed..lol. you could learn a few moves from some good hustlers, dont show your aces until its a big score thats for sure. You need to hook up with Big Arm John he knows the players ,the moves and has the money to stake you, and he can protect you too. thats what you need, nothing against Gene, but you need a stake horse. The guy that owns the Brickyard is a millionare i believe, there you go.

interesting info there..

A seasoned old gambler and pool room owner once said, "The life of a pool player is like that of a fox; chicken today, feathers tomorrow."

JoeyA

JoeyA - IS LOADED with sayings....apparently HE spent too much time in poolrooms too!

I will tell you one that my mothers says about my dad.

"Its not that your dad has bad advice, he just has so much of it...."

Mom is 72 and still drives a school bus and cracks the kids up all the time.

Good ones Ken and Joey! Here's another good one some may or may not have heard.

"Sometimes the bug, sometimes the windshield."

Speaking of that, What is the last thing that goes thru a bugs mind when it hits your wind shield?

His a ss.

Riding my Harley, I have tasted all kinds of bugs and I have no idea of which ones I like the best.

I have eaten Mexican grass hoppers. Toasted with chili lime sauce and I have to say, they are my all time favorite.

On a cracker with a little Brie. Just like beef jerky. I would kill for a bag of Mexican hoppers.

Ain't nothin like being caught with your mouth barely open doing @ 60 on a bike. A niced size bug will hit you like a freaking rock way in the back of the throat, and no matter how much you cough and swerve - they go straight down the wrong pipe forever. Wonderful stuff. Free dinner.

BHR, you canucks can have your chili grasshopper cookoffs. I'm out. ;)

Yesterday was a decent day but ended with a loss.

I went to Jamaica joes just looking for action and found out they were hosting a non handicap race to five nine ball tournament for players under 9 speed rating. I decided to get in for $20 and placed seventh out of over fourty for $50.

Then I got in a one hole match even with Jeremy for $10 a rack and he quit after two racks. I won eight to one and eight to zero in a matter of fifteen minutes.

Then I played another young man who is about one ball better than I am at nine ball. We played one race to seven for eighty and I won seven to four. He quit. Don't know why, I felt he had a fair chance.

Then I tried to play fast Eddie again, he had me down $300 giving me the eight so I suggested to his backer we play three more sets for $100 a set with the seven. I won the next two sets seven to two, and he won the final set seven to five.

At least from now on I get the seven from Fast Eddie from Chester's.

Last night I went undefeated in the eight ball tournament spotting everyone one on the wire to four at Lucky's. $10 entry and won $75 for first place.

I plan to leave Oklahoma City next Thursday and head to Whitehall Ohio to stay a week before heading to Nashville.

In the meantime I am just going to play in local tournaments here to build my bankroll and maybe get a little action as I won't be back in Oklahoma again until October.

It seems like your holding your own out on the road so far. You probably know this anyhow, but in case not...Make your max bet only a small % of your bank roll...no matter how big or small that might be. Even when you feel you have the nut balls have a way of rolling funny at the WRONG time. Good luck to you now and in the future. If you can hold it together you will only get better at the games and matching up. Johnnyt

I might be at Michael's in cincinatti next Saturday, depends on if Chip will be going to Ohio and if he's willing to give me a ride.

Gene if you read this please hold off on sending those books to OKC I may be gone before they arrive, just give them to me at the Derby City Classic.

Tonight Herman Croy and I are competing in a scotch doubles eight ball tournament race to three on the winner side and race to two on the loser side at Don Quixotes. We were fortunate to buy half of ourselves in the Calcutta for $35.00.

So far we won the first two rounds and lost the third round, waiting to play the next match.

Drinking Coca Cola and enjoying the company of a beautiful woman.

Herman is super hot. ;) J/K!

Kick tail woman! Thanks for sharing Rhea.

Apparently the pool hall has carpeting. Wall to wall and ten feet tall, 10-4 Good Buddy.

Just kidding too.

Haven't been anywhere with WiFi lately for an update. My bankroll is still in good standing with a few more tournament wins under my belt.

I plan to travel to Lawton OK this weekend for a tournament, if I win I may go to DCC to play Mark, if not I will still go to Arlington TX by the first of Feb. For now I am still grinding in Oklahoma, the competition out this way is no breeze.

Playing in a tournament tonight, just lost the match for the hot seat, at least I have third place locked up at a minimum but going to try to get back to the top.

Reah

I have read the thread of your and Genes time on the road and it has been great. I know alot of folks have given thier opinions on what you should and should not do and there is alot of truth in what they are saying . The Road is not a kind teacher and definitely not for everybody. In you though i see a drive and desire that nothing but going out on the road is going to satisfy. Best of Rolls to you and I hope this experiance is all you hope it to be. I will say this experiance is going to teach you a whole lot about yourself and a bunch of it will have nothing to do with playing pool . Best of Luck and Best wishes

Billy

Billy, You couldn't have said it better and I completely agree. I don't usually read real long posts on the forum, but once I got started reading this one I couldn't stop. I know a lot of people don't agree, but you are only young once and with Rhea's drive to play she's going to try and live her dream. Good idea or bad idea it's her dream and she's trying to live it. I wish her the best of rolls and the good luck.

Rhea won't get rich playing pool and neither will I. But her willingness to share her story is huge all by itself. If that isn't giving back then I don't know what is.

Sharing the trials and tribulations that a player encounters on the road on a daily basis.

And from the amount of activity on this thread is looks like allot of players out there are enjoying the journey with her.

For many this journey would not work but for Rhea it is a Perfect fit.

I just tried to make her ride a little less bumpy............
I could never do what Rhea and you are doing, but i've enjoyed reading about it and I wish you both the best of luck and good rolls. If Rhea had enough drive to walk away from a possible 6 figure income to follow her dream I wish people wouldn't condemn her for it. It's her life and she can always go back to the type of work she excelled at if things don't work out following her dream. Of course this life style isn't for everyone, but it seems to be OK for her for now. Let her enjoy it until she decides she's had enough.

I'm confused

I was in no way trying to be malicious, my apologies
