Rick landsurg called me with the sad news
Mike was a very interesting contributor to pool
He built the Its George cases which so many of us admired and some excellent pool cues as well

I had the pleasure of knowing him personally,a one time I either gave him a German Shepherd puppy or he traded me some cases

At any rate his fondness for his puppy created a bond between us

I know he had a daughter who played softball and ended up graduuating from college
and Law School

We didn't keep in touch as the years went buyand I seldom got out and he seldom came to Dallas

I will miss him as I am sure many of you will

I probably bought dozensof his cues and really ebnjoyed them ,he learned under Bill schick so I won't be surprised to see you guys honoring his work as time goes by

My first “good case”, bought for my first “good cue” in 1983. Both retired, and neither for sale at any price.

RIP Mike.

Sorry

RIP Mike Roberts.
My first 6 point BB 1995 went into a brand new 2x4 George case.

RIP Mike Roberts.

I bought my first It's George soft case back in 93. That case survived getting rained on for 10 years thanks to a very leaky garage roof. That same case has now served me well since 2013, rusty metal pieces and all.

Thanks for a great product Mr. Roberts.

I've worked with Mike and I used to collect It's George cases.
It didn't seem like he had been well for a long time.
Very sad news
RIP Mike Roberts

RIP Mike. His steel-joint cues are true classics. Play as good as any cue you can name. His name will live on in his many fine products.

Excerpt from my article (InsidePOOL Oct. '06?) on Wayne Anderson (Bella Sera Cues):

"In the mid 1980’s, Texas cue case builder Bob Hempell had all but ceased building his famed Fellini Cases. Local pool player Mike Roberts and master cuemaker Bill Schick saw that the market was ripe for a new case manufacturer. Roberts approached his friend Wayne Anderson about the project. Wayne was a skilled tradesman with a passion for building high performance cars. Although Wayne had no industry connection, his mechanical skills and his eye for the aesthetics made him an easy choice for Roberts to ask for assistance.

With the Fellini Case as a model, Wayne and Mike set to work in designing and building the new case prototype. Upon seeing the first successful product, Bill Schick exclaimed “It’s George!” a local saying conveying a positive outcome."

God's speed Mr. Roberts

I was traveling through Louisiana back in early 90's and met Mike, I still have my it's George case (spiritual story behind that one I can assure ya'll of that). My condolences to his friends and family - I will never part with the case I have - it's not Tom - it's George.

The saying, 'Its George' comes from a 50's movie 'The Hunters' with Robert Wagner. "Its George" meant good and "Its Tom" meant bad. It may have been used before that but that was where most think it originated. Robert Wagner's character, a USAF pilot, used the terms in the movie.
