The post office in Flushing called me to say they have the package and its been taken out of circulation and will be sent back to my PO today. They seemed happy to have helped and enjoyed the excitement. I will call back there again later to be sure Mr. Holmes did not scam them into releasing the package. Again, thanks everyone for all your help. From now on I'm gonna be a cynical *****. No tickee no washee!!!. F##k humanity.

You're one lucky man. Congratulations. I don't have that kind of luck. If that were me, he'd have already picked up the cue and sold it for $1500 at the first poolroom. Good to hear the happy ending. Rare, but good.

TWO WORDS. Press charges! Do not let this drop! He will just do it to someone else until he's stopped. Call the Flushing police and the FBI. You have an opportunity to help someone else right now. Do the right thing! Get his ass good!
 
This is the best news I have heard in a while. I almost take it personally when I hear about thefts and scams like this guy tried to pull. You are exceptionally lucky. I would probably ask the post office to write on the package in large letters with permanent marker "return to sender only" to help avoid the possibility he gets someone unfamiliar with what s going on to hand over the package to him.

Don't let this drop, you must pursue it and press charges to the fullest extent of the law so that he does not keep getting away with this. Again, congrats on the good news, that was so great to hear!!
 
How funny would it be if the check cleared this afternoon and you ruined a little girl's dream:D:D:D Just kidding, glad you won this time.

EXACTLY!

Many of us have been ripped off through the same or very similar scenario (myself included for $1400). I filed a complaint through the Internet Crime Complaint Center (http://www.ic3.gov/) and got a call a while afterward, but they couldn't do anything about it because all I had was a screen name and nothing tangible regarding the deal. While I did not get my own situation recitified (out of my own stupidity in not recording the transaction details) I did get the person's name flagged so if something happened in the future they would see this mark.

The least you can do is file a complaint for the sake of everyone else this guy will potentially scam.

I would but there was no crime commited at this time. We all suspected as much and given his prior history I'm sure I would have gotten taken. I'm just glad I decided to share this with everyone and acted upon it right away.

Great news! In the end you learned a hard lesson, but think of all the people you helped educate by bringing this incident to the forum's attention. This guy is a real shitbag and his day is coming very soon.

If the check didn't clear, a crime WAS committed! By the way, Fraudulent Intent is a crime in most jurisdictions. And his past history is proof of intent. If I were in your shoes, I would not let him slide.
