RKC Diamondizing my table as I type!

I purchased a Gold Crown ll a few months ago and let it sit in the the

house of the people I purchased it from until Glen (Realkingcobra here on

AZ, for those new to the forum) would be able to pick it up and work his

magic.

It was a long hard wait as Glen has a crazy busy schedule, but the time

has finally arrived. Glen picked up the table yesterday and should be

setting it up in my basement tomorrow! Just wanted to share this info

with people who can appreciate the excitement this entails.

I will post pictures soon of the table. People here on AZ that have been in

this situation have used the analogy of awaiting Christmas morning as a

child, and I can tell you now 1'st hand, that is very accurate.

Anyway, as most here already know, Glen's skills are more accurately

compared to those of an artist, as the title of "table mechanic" do not do

justice to his skills.

Here is what I'm getting tomorrow;

9' GC 2
Diamondized with 4.5" corner and 5" side pockets.
new Diamond rubber
Simonis 860 HR Tournament blue cloth

I know where I'm spending my free time over the holidays!

Glen and Zach picked up and installed my GC a few months ago. He does amazing work. You will be more than happy when that coffee/Dr. Pepper drinking sucker pulls out of you driveway:)

I hope he is on his way to Baltimore.

Christmas came early to my mancave.

It was money well spent and way worth the wait...Zach and Gordon are the ones that actually did the work on my table...but RKC was in the cave.

My only problem now is that I like to hit balls for about 10 minutes right before going to bed....(my bed as literally about 15' away from the table since the cave is an addition to the master bedroom)....The 10 minutes ends up being like 2 hours before I realize I have to be to work in less than 5 hours.....nothing like living day to day on 4 hours of sleep...

You are guaranteed to like the end result.

Can't wait! Looks like he'll be here tomorrow morning.

Nice set-up! Looks like you have plenty of clearance on all sides.
What model Gold Crown is that and what kind of cloth and color is it?

New rubber? Artemis/Diamond?

Thanks for posting pics!

Just from the looks of the counters on the table, (bronze colored and not silver), it's a GC III. Looking forward to having Glen work on my table next year when I move to TX...the anticipation is killing me. lol.

Love the way that table looks with the blackened pocket castings. Very sharp. Nice mancave!

There are no clearance issues unless someone is on the computer (off to the right of the pic)...I do have to slide the computer chair out of the way before I play.

I have pretty much the same specs as you are getting

GCII
Artemis Intercontinental K55
Simonis 860HR
4.5 corner pockets
Brunswick GCIV Drop Pockets from Scruffy1 (John Burns - classicbilliards.net)

The table was a disaster before Zach/Gordon/Glen got to it....All of the rails were a mismatched mess and major subrail wood needed to be replaced and re-calibrated.....They corrected all of the alingment issues with the pocket castings and aprons as well.

All the measurements for length/width of the play field, pocket openings, rail nose height came out consistently dead nuts perfect all the way around the table.

Well worth the money......However...I don't call it Diamondized......I call it "Cobralated".....aka....Real King Cobra Calibrated.

Your life is ruined.
Diamondizing Snakizing means Artemis K55 installed with Glen's modified angle and Diamond-cut pockets.

What does Diamondizing actually mean?

Diamondizing basically means that my Gold Crown ll will be modified to the specs of a Diamond table.

Modifying the specs entails;

1. extending the subrails to tighten the pockets (4.5" corners and 5" sides).
This will also change how a ball sits in the jaws of the pocket. When a ball is as deep into a corner pocket as it will go without falling, 40% of the ball will protrude past the points. This was the consensus of what many pro players. felt should be the standard when Diamond did their research in to designing the best possible playing table on the market.
(no shims, as they will alter the true and accurate play of the table)

2. changing the angles of the cushions to play like a Diamomd.

I am sure there is more to it than this but this covers my limited understanding.

For those that are Gold Crown fans, I grew up playing on GC's and I still love the way they play. I just wanted my table to play a little tougher and everything I have read tells me that Diamond tables not only play tougher than Gold Crowns (tighter pockets being an obvious reason) but they play more accurately and true. The angles and speed the balls come off the rails give the table a truer play.

Realkingcobra (Glen) and the few table mechanics he has trained across the country are the only table mechanics that can accurately reproduce the way Diamond tables play. You can even call Diamond directly and they will confirm this.

I will be sure to keep the members here posted with the results and some pics! :D

Mine's been done for about 6 months now.

RKC rebuilt my GC4 about 6 months ago. Poor guy ended up in Tucson when we were hitting 108 degrees. I though the Cobra was going to melt.:D Everything was hosed before he started. Pockets were buckets, and all differnt sizes. Some rails were high, some low, angles were all wrong, table was a mess. He took some measurements, then cut, added wood, glued, cut again. The whole time I'm thinking OMG, what have I done! What amazed me the most is that when he put it all back together it was dead nuts. I mean 4.5 corners, all 4, not 4.55 or 4.45, but 4.5 on the nose, all the way around. I asked for 4.75 sides, and got 4.75 sides. Not standard but it works for me.

Well, like I said it been about 6 months and as you can tell from my post I'm still impressed with the work. Best part of it all was meeting Glen. He may be a little rough around the edges sometime, but he's the real deal, and a friend I look forward to seeing again soon. I'm excited for you man. You'll fall in love with the game on a whole new level when he's done. But beware, you won't be able to blane your pockets anymore.

James

BTW: I haven't updated my avitar yet. I went with the Artimis and blue 860HR. If you think of it, tell Glen that Marilyn and I have some steaks with his name on them if he comes throgh Tucson on his way east next time. ( Its much cooler here now.:D )

BRKNRUN, What type of finish is that on your pocket castings? It looks pretty good.

Glen is meticulous when it comes to fixing a table. I didn't get my cushions replaced and pockets tightened when he set up the table for financial reasons, but the only people I'd call to do the job is him or one of the mechanics he's trained.

Will do James.. Thanks for the reply!

I just started a Master's program a couple of months ago and I am already getting the feeling that the difficulty of my program suddely increased 10x with the addition of my new Cobratized GC 2. In fact I am feeling everything in my life will slip a little on my list of priorites for some time :sorry: but what can you do:confused:
I must get acquanted with my new table:grin-square:.

My buddy had Glen "Diamondize" his Gandy Big G a couple years back and he still raves abouit it... and, I will add.. it's worth raving about. :groucho: :groucho: :groucho: :groucho: :groucho:

How much did you save compared to buying a diamond?

There was no way I could have bought a Diamond table, new or used. I stold my GC 2. Total cost for my GC 2 with new Diamond rubber, Simonis 860 HR cloth, Having RKC Diamondize it, deliver and set it up. Right around $1,800. So you tell me... I think a new Pro-Am goes for around 4-4.5 grand. Correct me if I'm wrong.
