Ronnie Alcano's classless move !

Why did the players have to rack the balls for themselves? What's the role of referees in this tournament anyway? Most high profile events do have referees who also rack the balls...

What caught my attention was something else. RA was sick but well enough to play, well enough to get the get the cash, but not well enough to hang around for the presentation and thank those who had put up the money and held the event. It's easy for me to sit here and say that, but if RA would of taken the microphone from the announcer and "at least'' said something instead of someone else apologizing for his actions that would of worked for me.

I didn't watch the end of the match, but I do know that Alcano's english is pretty much limited to "hello" "what handicap" "I bet 1000" etc, so I wouldn't expect a speech from him :D

If he was sick I can understand a quick run to the toilet after the match, and then atleast come back to wave or something when he got the trophy, if he didn't do that.

I'd like to know Johnny's take on it !

It's over now but would be curious on what Johnny thought about it...He looked a lil flustered after....I know Eric is good friends with him..Maybe Eric could call him & see what his take of it was & if it did take him back a little..I know pros are better at not letting things get to them but I know i've had things happen that I let cost me matches before..Just curious if it happens on the pro level as well.

From what I read here it seems like Johnny was the one pulling a move on Alcano, for racking 7 minutes and playing slow. Well it didn't work as we all know who won the match. to the OP, please change the topic to "Johnny Archer's classless move". :groucho:

IMO,i didn't find RA's move as sharking move.I have a great respect to Johnny Archer and i can put money on him on some if his matches. He is obviously one of the best pool player i've seen.I don't think Johnny got distructed on Ronnie's move. He's been a great player for a long while and i don't think simple things like that will affect his mindset.Ronnie is a former World champ as well and no doubt he can beat anyone when he is on the roll.On this match,Ronnie played just little better than Johnny.Congrats to both!

Ronnie hurled in the trash can somewhere in midmatch, sounds like he was sick to me! There was a rumor that he had swine flu, I think it was more the other people not being happy about handling the mike after Ronnie and putting their mouths next to it than anything else. Ronnie didn't hustle out, he was hustled out. He went along with what he was told to do.

I'm plenty willing to lynch Ronnie for coming over here and taking our cheese but we need at least a half valid reason. So far, it looks like he provided welcome assistance with the rack and showed the heart of a champion finding a way to win when he was sick as a dog. Hard to bash him for these things. Now if he pulled the old booger on the cue ball trick after heaving, I could see where that could rattle Johnny!

Hu

Troy, don't you know that you aren't allowed to criticize any of the Filipinos? They have evidently become a PC protected class. If anyone ever says anything negative about most any of them, the wrath of the board descends. It's acceptable to bad mouth Buddha, Jesus, and Mohammed, but if you ever disparage the top Filipinos --especially Efren-- out come the long knives...

By the way, your "ball sak" comment broke me up.

Doc

7 mins to rack the balls...lol

I probably woulda lasted 3 mins before yelling out some kind of classless obsenity. Guess in the Phillipines they just come over and offer to help you out, even when their sick...

actually i think it was taking so long for Johnny to rack was from R A's issue with the 1st rack...it didn't take that long when J A racked the very 1st time..he was actually ready to break when R A had issues..the times after when JA was racking he was taking much longer trying to get it to R A's approval..Johnny is already slow and methodical but after getting called out on it..it seems he took even longer..that's how i perseeved it anyway...will try and stay opened minded on it..just would love to know Johnny's thoughts on it..cuz i know i've let pettier things than that get me on tilt and loss matches.but i'm not a pro nor shoot anywhere near pro speed.

LOL... I love to way you are trying to build support for your own ridiculous complaint about Efren by jumping on this bandwagon.

You criticized Efren Reyes for being selfish even though he is well known to be a seriously generous and charitable individual, yet you still stick your head in the sand. Weak...

it's all good doc !

Never been one to sugar coat anything..I just wanted other peoples perseption of what went on..I know he was feeling bad with the flu and all but thought it was uncalled for...some people that were there live said it wasn't as big a deal as it looked live screen....I know Joey & i believe nick was other in booth...thought it was out of line also..that's why i made it clear that since i was betting on Johnny my opinion might be bias..but wanted to hear others.

does anyone remember the wiseman and archer match a while ago ? wiseman sed something to the effect of " the damage is done!" after archer asked him a question upon shooting. whoever saw the match will know what i mean

I think one has to take responsibility for his words and deeds. In a society where the credo "innocent until proven guilty" is believed on the first order, we should hear all sides before we make our judgement. To say "classless move" is a bit premature and reactionary. Yes we could say it was a foul or we can say Johnny was sharked but until we know the facts that it was intentional or without consent by all parties how can we judge it as "Classless". I understand what you say Troy about things getting to you. Im trying to work that out myself. I used to get bugged by certain music or loud drunks but trying to learn how to play without any distractions affecting my game. This has gotten to me learning how to focus no matter what. And it definitely has freed me from that kind of pressure. I believe a Champion like Archer has dealt with that 100 times the ordinary and found a way to conquer his weakness'.
Once I was playing someone and a friend came up to me to say hello as I hadnt seen him for a while. The guy I was playing with accused me of sharking him. I might have been insensitive but it was a sports bar/pool hall. Not the public library or church. I apologized but the guy kept whining about it like I committed murder of his mother. I think CHampions find a way to win no matter what. Thats what we have to aspire to.
And as for you Doc. Thats pathetic. You didnt say you didnt agree with Efren or that what he did was unacceptable. Or that you were confused about his choice. You called him a "selfish pr&ck"! Then now you are pulling the RACE card saying that people came down on you for criticizing the PHILLIPINOS. Not so. We are criticizing you cause you are wrong and too quick to judge before you know all the facts. I dont care if Efren was African, Latin, European, or a shetland pony. He has a right to have his opinions about the tournament he is playing in. Like I said in the beginning. Take responsibility for your words and actions and dont blame all of us for taking you to task for them.

JA never complained before the match.
JA never complained during the match.
JA never complained after the match.

there's no point on trying to know something that isn't even a discussion nor do the person concerned cared to whine about. that's that.

if there was really something going on, we should had heard about it by now. it's 2 days after the event and nothing. move on people. better luck on your bet next time.

I've made no excuses..I still think it was out of line..maybe him being sick might have played a roll in it..maybe u should quit making excuses to nut hug.

It was out of line. But not so bad that it really mattered. He set the tone by making that move, I'm sure JA has done the same thing, hell anyone who has ever played has for that matter. It aint that big of deal. But again it was out of line.
