So I recently added this to the collection. It is believed to be an old Runde Schon but if anyone here knows otherwise I would be more than willing to to corrected. If anyone here has any info on it I would greatly appreciate it. :)

It's out getting a complete refinish and I should have it back shortly. :thumbup:

Tom,

It kind of looks like an old SL-5 variant. We've had a few similar cues with the silver rings in the butt and joint like that with sharp points...and I believe they said they were old SL models. I believe they were right after the R series. My buddy Matt just picked up another one that looks to be from the same era and it has ring two sets in the butt sleeve that are very similar to the one above the wrap on yours, except it also has some colored veneers in the billet slots.

Pardon my ignorance, but didn't the SL models have CNC points?
 
I don't know enough about Schon cues to comment on that matter but it is a damn nice cue for sure.

I just received an email from Schon cues. They confirmed it is indeed one of their cues and it was made around 1984 when Bob Runde was getting ready to leave and Evan was in the process of taking over. It appears to be a custom ordered cue and 1 of 1. :thumbup:

In an interesting turn of events, I have come to know that this cue is in fact NOT a Runde or a Schon.

I received an email from another member who is friends with someone who knows Bob very well and sent photos of the cue to him for confirmation. Bob told him he did not build it so I contacted Evan at Schon for a little more clarification. When I first sent the photos to Schon, John Fuhrman was the person who replied that it was one of their cues and it was built right before Bob was leaving Schon etc. I thought it might be a good idea to check with Evan and he responded that this cue is an Adam. I asked for a little more info such as a model number, when it was built, and how he knew it was an Adam and he responded with "trust me, it's an Adam".

So with that in mind, if anyone has any info regarding this cue, I would appreciate it. Honestly, I find it difficult to believe its actually an Adam cue. It is in no way consistent with anything I have seen from Adam other than maybe their Bushka line but it doesn't look like any of the models. It's very, very well built and plays fantastic.
 
I had heard rumors about adams cues building knock off schons at about the time period you are referring to. Evan may have some of those cues there or may habe seen this exact model before, and that may be why he saying to "trust him.

Post better pics of the joint/inserts, and take the bumper and bolt.out.and take some pics of that and the threads in the butt. Those are a few areas that may give away what it is.

I'll take some photos of the joint and inserts tonight when I get home from work. The bumper isn't going to help though because the cue was recently refinished by Mike Webb and the buttcap was replaced.

If this is indeed one of the Adam "knockoffs" that would make it pretty rare, no? Until you mentioned it, I had never heard of them, much less seen one.

Nothing that Adams built is rare.... Even if it was "rare", it's still an Adams and is still a knock-off. They were good copies so most are being passed around as Schons.

The butt cap change was what was making this one difficult to identify.
 
I am a little perplexed. I have seen Adam points not attached to the handle and I have to say that the ones I saw rivaled any prongs I have seen stateside. They were almost touching at the base and the miter was right on the money. The veneer quality was very good, and the ebony was as black as coal.

Really? Then you'll have to give me your definition of rare. Because I've never even heard of these, much less seen one. I'm not stating that it's worth considerably more, Just that they're likely aren't that many around.

Knock off.....are you telling me that Adam cues built cues marked as Schon? I need clarification on this as it seems unlikely. The metal rings look thinner than the Adam cues I have seen, but that don't mean much...we don't know if they are original.

I had no choice but to change the cap, it was changed before by someone else, it was basically an egg and wouldn't line up anyway I turned it, this one won't move so easilly, it's threaded on, and glue channels in the delrin for locks.
 
Now that I am really interested in who made this great looking cue the thread stops? Not fair. Lets get to work out there all you cue experts.
 
If Evan Says It's Not A Schon.......Trust Him.

I have nothing to add about who actually built this cue but this much I will say. If Evan Clarke says it's not a Schon, you can rely upon that as gospel truth. He knows the line line better than anyone else imaginable even though he wasn't building cues with Bob & Terry in the back room of Terry R.'s pool hall in '81.
