Are the new rankings based on their last 10 tournaments? Like Allision has $41,000...is that like an average of $4100 a tournament? Johnnyt

I am rooting for Pan Xiao Ting but there are four quality players still standing and any one can win. Here's to great matches and may the most deserving player on Sunday win.

I am very envious of anyone who is there to watch.

The new WPBA rankings are based on the last ten tournaments but not on money earned. The new ranking points system, as I remember it (you'd have to check WPBA.com to be certain):

1st 5,000 if undefeated, 4,750 with one loss
2nd 4,250 with one loss, 4,000 with two losses
3/4 3,750 with one loss, 3,500 with two losses
5/8 3,250 with one loss, 3,000 with two losses
9/16 2,750 with one loss, 2,000 with two losses
17/24 2,000
25/32 1,500
33/38 750
49/64 50

Also, I think 1 1/2 times the above points will be awarded for the most important events (I'd guess that means the BCA pro event, the US Open and the WPBA Nationals, but I don't know for sure).

In my opinion, it's a very good ranking system.

I heard Jasmin say that she was staying here in San Diego until it is time for the Vegas tournament. In reply to a previous post if she qualified, she doesnt have to for the Vegas event. They give out many spots to overseas players.

I am sure many of the locals here will be showing up to On Cue a bit more often to catch her playing some til the middle of May.

Jasmine may go to Forida to a Qualifier for a future WPBA event probably next weekend and then return to San Diego - though her Instructor would like some exposure to Los Angeles for her. I mentioned Hartimes, Hollywood and Mr Luckys for tight pockets. Then on to Las Vegas for the

There are four great stories out there waiting to happen today.

If Xiaoting Pan wins the title
She lost the final double-hill at WPBA North Carolina, dominated the field in winning WPBA Michigan City, and dominated the field to win the World Championships. If she's good enough to win this, she may establish herself, in the eyes of many, as the player to beat on the tour, and capturing the #1 ranking by the end of this WPBA season would become a realistic goal. A win here and Pan walks away as the #3 ranked player on the WPBA.

If Jasmin Ouschan wins the title
She wowed us a year ago at the BCA Pro event, and, although she doesn't play the WPBA tour, it's common knowledge that she's one of the most elite woman pool players. If she wins this one, which would include beating Pan in the semis, she'll further establish herself as one of women's pool's superstars, and will have rebounded from a disappointment in the World Championships.

If Kelly Fisher wins the title
A third straight win at WPBA San Diego by Kelly Fisher would be a monumental achievement. I can only think of two occasions in the post-Jean-Balukas era where a woman has equalled or surpassed this, and that would be Allison Fisher winning WPBA Peoria four straight times and Karen Corr winning three straight BCA Opens. A win by Kelly Fisher here would put Karen Corr and the #2 ranking in her sights.

If Julie Kelly win the title
The animated and personable Julie Kelly shocked us all with her win in the 2000 World Pool Championships, then backed it up when she ascended all the way to #3 in the WPBA rankings. The last couple of years haven't been very kind to Julie, and a win today would go a long way to re-establishing her as a very dangerous opponent.

Wishing all of these fine players good luck today. May the best woman win!

Thank you sjm. Johnnyt

I guess Jasmine doesn't want her picture taken. You would think it would be in the highlights pictures on the WPBA site. Johnnyt

No updates yet? I can't wait to see these TV matches on TV. Johnnyt

TV round usually begins shortly after 1:00 at a WPBA event on Sunday, but as it's on the West Coast, that means the first semi should only be about halfway competed.

The match between Xiao Ting Pan and Jasmin Ouschan is one I am dying to see. They are both emotionless when they play, and both have very good breaks.

But somehow, they have different styles. Xiao Ting is very methodical, and has a very controlled game and stroke. Jasmine plays like one of the top men, with a very powerful stroke, and takes no time in running out.

Whoever gets in the zone first and pull a big lead will likely win; if it is a see-saw match, then we can really be treated to see who has the real nerve of steel, when it gets close to the finish line.

Alternate break does netralize the break and run ability a bit between the two. If it is winner's break, I think it will be very exciting, because each of them will be trying to break and run as many racks as they can to pull a lead early in the game, the fans will be treated to see lots of awesome shot making and running out.

Nevertheless, I will venture to say this is the toughest match between the semi finalists, and whoever wins will likely win the tournament.

By the way, I am very happy for Alice Rim, who has had a very fine showing. Congrat.

Richard

Funny, searched on google and there's actually a song called Jasmin:

Thought it suited well right now :D

"jasmin is my favorite girl
my favorite girl in the whole wide world
never will forget the way she stole my heart away
jasmin is my favorite girl
my favorite girl in the whole wide world
gotta let every body know that your my favorite girl"

Surely, this has to rank as one of the better WPBA events in a while, with so many great champions duking it out for the title. Congratulations and good luck to the worthy finalists, Kelly Fisher and Jasmin Ouschan.

I think the biggest question riding on the result is whether, if Jasmin Ouschan wins, AZB Forum members will be impressed enough to stop adding an extra "E" to the end of her first name. If not, I'd say, she won't have made the grade yet in these AZB parts.
