Sandbaggers on APA Regionals

Here we have a true sand bagger then. Sl3 playing with a Southwest and Tascarella? Right... Who is your LO? I would like to report you!

Just because you have some dough doesnt mean you can play well.

All I am saying is, I have never seen a handicap league (bowling, pool or whatever) that is played full speed.

So if you are a SL7 and I am SL3, do you really think you can beat me? I like my odds.

Dont take it too seriously. Really.

Ken

So you are an SL3? What would you say your true speed would be? SL6? 7? So no guilt at all eh, when you throw a match? Even if its just somebody kind of new to the game trying to get better?

SL3, wow. Well, I guess if you cant make it to Vegas playing at your correct level, and you cant get there on your own dime, I guess this is one way to go about it. Happy to say though, I only met a couple guys like you in Vegas. 90% of the players we faced were super nice, and at about the right SL, and some even bought me a drink after I beat them. Good times.

Really, Id say youre the one who takes it too seriously. I dont care if I win the trip to Vegas or not, and Im certainly not going to risk harming my game by dumping just to get a "free trip". Id rather everyone on my team just try their best. If we dont win the trip, a few of us will just go down on our own and play the minis.

Tru dat  Lotsa collectors out there. Especially if you can make more money selling cues than using one!

Right, and I am Snow White. Give me a break. SL3?

Hey Snow White, you ever played golf before? Enough said.

Im not defending the guy, just saying that money doesnt buy skill.

Sandbagging is horrible and hurts everyone.

Hey dude,
Just look at list of cues he has on his signature. Do you really think he is a SL3? Give me a break. Somebody with that knowledge of cue should know how to play a little bit.

LOL you are cracking me up!

But as everyone is whinning here, let me give you a perspective of the best player in my town. He should be considered a shortstop, but certainly the best in my hometown.

He said, "League players never come into the poolhalls and practice, or challenge or put the time in to become better. They do whine about handicaps and work hard at keeping theirs down and complaining about someone elses. What they should be doing is working on improving where everyone plays even."

While not 100% correct, by and large he is correct. The best players in the town play every day, or nearly everyday. I play at least an hour each day, and usually close to 8 hours on Saturday and Sundays.

I know I will get a load of nits and yahoos that will say they do, but in a town of probably 100 league players, I would guess less than 10 put in the hours, or come to PH to improve.

LOL,,,,,and Tony havent you ever played a SL3 with a Tasc or Southwest?

:D

I wish EVERYONE the very best, your friend in pool,

Ken

Hey Ken,
I am not whinning here. I am just messing with you. With so many nice cues under your belt it is hard to believe you are a SL3, that is all. I will leave good rep to you :)

Forgot to answer your question. Nope. Never played a SL3 that was using a Southwest. Probably a Espiritu, a Schon, but not a Southwest or a Tascarella, Schic or a TAD like you.
FYI, I will never downgrade my SL unless for same reason I am not really playing well. I try at least to play 15 to 30 minutes or more at home everyday and then play on the weekends on tournaments and leagues. I always try to play against the best, that is the only way to learn, even if I get my butt kicked, I really do not care.

Me too

If you want to play against the best, dont play leagues....LOL

Secondly, if I could play and get downgraded to a SL2 ..... wow that would be GREAT!

I do have passion for pool, obviously, but I dont have a passion for league play.

Can't believe it.
I play leagues and tournaments, so... I guess it is ok to be dishonest to you. Alright then...

Hi there,
Just a topic for discussion...
Why do people need to be sand baggers? I was 1 game away to make it to the finals on my SL to the APA Nationals, on the regionals this weekend in Bakersfield until I found a sand bagger. It is unfortunate and people like that should be disqualified or bumped to the level they should be on. I am not not crying but I am venting lol. I am a SL5 and I was playing a guy that just got bumped to a 6 but actually should be at least a 7.
It gets worst when we go to Vegas and APA officials do not do anything about it on the spot, not after you loose the match.
Anyway, we played on bar tables that had cloth, nasty cloth (balls on my carpet roll faster than that).
Can't believe APA does the regionals at Corner Pocket in Bakersfield... No free practice tables, restrooms are the nastiest I have seen in my life, can't do a dump without people watching... Unbelievable.
Anyway, I did meet some really nice people there and the beer on draft was not that bad either!
My advise is not to play apa leagues. The sandbaggers are the guys who always finish 12th in a regional pro tournament and never any higher. They have no business in a league and don't want to commit the time it takes to compete with pros. APA is a waste of time.

No comment.

I'm an APA 4 and finished 2nd in my regional (playing 9ball). I didn't really see any sandbagging. In the finals i lost the guy played more defense then other 4s i played against but i was able to get out of most of the safeties, what killed me was the lucky rolls he got where he'd hook me when he'd miss (they were usually better then the D he played). When i lost i congratulated the guy and told him good luck in Vegas.

Not saying there isn't sandbagging in the APA but i think too many people are quick to say someone sandbags when they lose and maybe they just didn't play well or the other person played better.

I went to Vegas last year to play in mini's and just go to Vegas. I played 5 minis and only won one, but the one i won i was basically called a sandbagger from two people, even though I had to remind the 5 i beat in 8 ball that she should have won but gave me a game by hitting the 8 in out of turn. Lol, the other guy i beat in the mini, i made a tough cut up the table and got into his head, totally threw him off his game. Kept asking me if i gambled (which i don't), guess he wasn't supposed to lose :p

T.A.P. League

T.A.P. is much better than APA and has a nice national event.

Better rules also:

25 handicap
choice after break
call pocket ( dont have to call kisses)
2-7 rating system

But like any handicapped system there is sandbagging. The truth in my opinion is that any team that wins nationals is bagging a little at the least.

That is the reason I switched to the BCA along with the higher level of player "overall". I read he APA team mag. and not one handicap over seven placed a it drug the rest of the team down. Frankly I thinks a way of cheating to win. APA seems to be more $ driven than the BCA. How did you place in the nationals
