Sarah Ellerby vs Jennifer Chen (How would you rule?)

This isn't the first time Sarah has fouled and tried to get out of it. Last year at this same tournament she was shooting a long shot on the nine, missed the whole ball against melissa little and tried to say she fanned it. Steve T was sitting right there in front of the shot watching the match in the arena. Ofcourse your not going to get away with this playing M.L.. She laughed in her face and said "OH PLEASE! You missed the whole ball. Took ball in hand and won the game.

Sarah broke the balls in my face during this pro am charity event even after I asked her not to. She broke while my cue was still on the table also. She is out of control.

With a player like this, I would tend to "over" officiate her matches. Meaning I would try to stay as close as possible to her table and observe what's going on. Worked pretty well with Earl in Phoenix. He knew I was watching his every move. :)

There is only one way to say it, she is a f$^%ng B&^ch!!!!!!!! We have held a bunch of Ladies Spirit tour events in my room, and I'm here to tell you, she may be one of the most snotty, biggest Bi%*hes I have ever been unfortunate enough to meet! Sorry for the profanity, but I'm just telling it like it is! Of course I'm not telling you all anything you don't already know.

So he did call a foul? The above scenario should have taken place immediately when the situation came up. Afterwards it's a fruitless endeavor.

Jay he did call a foul right there. That situation was taken care of on the spot. It was the whole elbowing situation that couldn't be taken care of right away.

As Monica said, this is definitely not the first time any of this has happened. There are big differences between an innocent, Oops, I ran into you, excuse me situation and an obvious...going out of your way to do it situation. I'm glad something has finally been done.

Jennifer Chen complained that Sarah Ellerby had illegally and deliberately moved a ball on the table apparently while shooting at another ball.

When no one sees it except for one player, who decidse if it is deliberate? Bottom line: 2 players, 2 opinions, no witnesses, decision goes to the shooter. Tournament director ruled. Case closed.

I hope it wasn't deliberate and I hope Jennifer isn't making things up.
Cat pooo happens!

Sarah,
Unfortunately, I think such things may continue to occur. With the current state of pool, and the financial pressure on the players, and the natural competitiveness of the players it is somewhat understandable.

Many of us remember a similar situation occurring in Peoria several years ago (once again in a match for a television berth) where Karen Corr refused to admit to an obvious foul. Such episodes definitely do not help the image of the women's game (which is overall a very positive image).

I really think it would be great to have timekeeper/ballracker/observer at every table for every match (they don't have to be "referee's", but at least could be an objective observer). It could definitely be done, and would help avoid such incidents in the future. It could also help avoid the very slow play seen Saturday night. Get a bunch of AZB volunteers, dress them uniformly, train them (easily done); and it could definitely dress up the appearance of the event; as well as promote more uniformity. Having some matches timed and others dragging seems somewhat unfair to the untrained spectator.

P.S. - GREAT job at the event - your play was stellar. Monica's too (though her hand jive performance was only mildly enthusiastic).

Sarah,

Thank you for your insight on this situation. The WPBA board should not have to worry about incidents such as this. Any type of physical intimidation is completely inappropriate, regardless of the circumstances. It just has no place.

A WPBA player is a representative of the WPBA (and the game of pool) at all times and should act accordingly. As you and many others know (and as Monica pointed out in her post) this "attitude" has been going on for a while. I am glad to see something will done about this incident, and hopefully it will take care of the entire problem as well. Its too bad something like this had to happen - but I'm not surprised that Jennifer (of all people) stood up and said, "Not with me, you don't!"

If this has been going on for some time by Sarah E.. why hasn't something been done. Is it because she has friends in high places? Johnnyt

Sorry, I edited the OP.

I was reading what was going on from two tables away and the way Jennifer was using her hands on the table while she was describing to the TD what happened looked like she was saying something different than what I thought.

I hope I didn't offend Sarah E.

Yeah right! :D

Probably just fine her. Johnnyt

I heard through a rumor mill from another WPBA player, that she will be fined and will not be invited to the WPBA US OPEN Invitationa, in OK. But we will see.

What was the initial foul that Jennifer called on Sarah, or did I miss that?

EDIT: Nevermind. Read Sarah Rousey's post.

People not admitting to fouls is one of the reasons I don't like to gamble for $1000s

I know for a fact that I'M not going to cheat but I actually believe that my opponent will. I don't trust people. I trust myself so I feel I'm at a big disadvantage there. If I'm betting small then I feel better knowing I can just let them lie and cheat and I can just quit and never play them again without concern about my financial situation.

I would play for $1000 plus only with a ref. I have played for $500 without a ref and I was more nervous about a fight breaking out over a bad hit than anything else.

When word gets around that everyone on AZ is talking about your matches and how you tried to cheat and other poor sportsmanship this forum may act as a deterrent and I'm loving every minute of it.

My 2 cents:

In 2003 when I played in a few WPBA tournaments, there was one in Canada - I forgot the name of the tourney....

I remember being on one of the 2 practice tables - Karen Corr was on the other one. Anyway, I was gearing up for my match - the current match on the table I was scheduled to be on was hill-hill. Sarah proceeds to walk in and just puts together her stick grabs the cue ball, throws out the rest of the balls, and starts shooting them in - I was eyeing a shot, just about to bend over and shoot it...I was like "Hello? Do you see me?" So I tell her if I could just hit a few more balls and I would be outta there cause I should be playing any minute now.....she looks at me and asks me if I'm playing in the tournament, or if I'm already out - because these tables are for players only. I'm like "duh, I just said I should be playing soon. She ignores me, places her stick on the table, then walks over to Karen and starts discussing something.

HOW RUDE!!!!! She got NO manners whatsoever. I felt completely stepped on and disrespected...but I noticed I had to get to my table....and just proceeded to leave. Everytime I saw her after that she just looked at me in this weird way...like I was nobody, like I was outta place.

What a B I T C H, terrible way to make a newcomer feel....to bad I never got to play her in any tourneys...I would have loved to have handed her ass to her.

I can totally believe what Jennifer said, allegedly, happened. I don't believe for one second that she would lie about something like that. I'm just amazed that Sarah would do her bully tactics to a veteran like Jennifer. I can see how she would feel superior enough to dis a newcomer, like she did me....but wow, actual physical contact....that is childish and shameful of her.

I feel for Jennifer, I hope justice is served on Sarah, her actions are horrible and deserve some kind of punishment. The WPBA could actually do without someone like that.

from the original post i was on the fence about who to believe, Cause i dont know either of them well.
But judging from everyone elses experiences with her. It seems like something sarah would do. Some people are just born asses, and for some reason pool has more than its fair share of them

My sentiments exactly.

I hope this doesn't get swept under the rug, or that the outcome is handled quietly. This should get as much attention as the Varney threads have gotten, perhaps even more.

Like I said in my post yesterday, this has been going on for a while, and it's about time some of this nonsense was brought out in public. IMO, we should put a BIG spotlight on it, and turn the tables on her. Let her see what it feels like to be treated the same way she treats everybody else. Maybe that is what she needs to wake her up and to have her appreciate the honor of being a part of the WPBA.

I wonder what everybody will be saying when this news hits the streets in Taipei... that should be interesting.

Oh you don't have to worry much about that. As long as I'm still breathing they'll be a few words about it on AZ and other places each day until it is settled.

I know these are women that these things happened too and I'm too old school for todays I'll sue you if you touch me", but it's been going on for years...come on give me a break. People fall down stairs everyday when their are no witnesses around. Johnnyt
