SBE 2012 moved

Me and a friend of mine were thinking about selling those portable chairs at the SBE in 2012. You know bring a truck full of these portable fold up chairs for about $35 a pop. We could of made a fortune!!!!

This be just what many would be looking for, small, light weight and easy to carry, it folds to a small size.

Walkstools have been tested to a maximum capacity of 440 pounds to 660 pounds. The maximum weight capacity varies depending upon the model of Walkstool you select.

Hands Free Carrying

The Walkstool is wrapped into the closed position by wrapping a strap, which is attached to the Walkstool around the stool and securing with a snap. The closing strap can be easily threaded through a belt, back pack strap, purse strap or camera bag strap which allows the user to walk with the Walkstool hands free.

Think pool case.

These chairs right here are the nuts, and I think they'd sell like hot cakes.

I remember people in the front row selling their front-row seat for $20 one year at the SBE. Oh, my swollen feet hurt just thinking about it. :D

"Butt-butt-butt, what about the lefties among us? There should be left-handed versions of those as well!"

:p

-Sean <-- is actually right-handed, but always advocates equal rights and representation

Unfortunately, the majority of the butts are righties. :D

I know I told this story after SBE 2010.

I was just starting a morning match when 'the man on the loudspeaker' says "Anyone who has removed furniture from their hotel room is asked to return it immediately or you will be charged for replacing it."

My opponent and I looked at each other and broke out laughing.

Obviously, some of the late night action railbirds wanted to achieve ultimate comfort while sweating. ;)

Thanks to the op for this headsup.

I, too, agree that having an attached hotel was a huge benefit.

Best,
Brian kc

If they would get the food a lil better I wouldn't care if they had it on a river bank. The food there is awful!

My trips as a vendor were always great. One problem I encountered was NO TAXI Service.
I do hope that has changed.

I second moving it to Pittsburgh!! We have a pretty badass convention center!

Imagine the possibilities. The convention center is huge. They could hold so many different tournaments there at one time, it would be crazy. Probably enough room to switch from barboxes to 9-footers. (no problem with the barboxes though)

Not to mention Primanti Bros. can have a booth. And everybody would go home saying 'Yinz' and 'An At'.

Which is the best / closest hote to stay at now?

I agree with earlier posts regarding the importance of the attached hotel. I used to book a year in advance to make sure i got a room in the attached hotel. Gotto go cancel that reservation now. Anyone know where the best place to stay is now?

I can say that the Hilton, which is close by, sucks. We stayed there one year. It is old and stinky. Some of the rooms are located so far from the elevator that you almost need a rest stop walking down the MULTIPLE halls to get there.

I've always liked Hampton Inns, but I've never stayed at this one that is close by. My brother always booked Hampton Inns from coast to coast when he traveled. They have complimentary breakfast, nice flat-screen TVs, and clean rooms. I have never stayed at a bad Hampton Inn.

Also, me personally, I've always favored Marriott brand, Courtyard Marriott, Residence Inn, Fairfield Inn, et cetera.

If cost is a factor, there are a couple nice places across the street from the old conference center, up the street a quarter mile. I can't remember the name, but we stayed there once, and they were very clean and comfy. The cost was reasonable, like $70-something a night.

Well, by gosh, that must be a butt-nana republic! The house of represent-a-butts is leaning to the right!

:p

On a serious note, though, it's going to be very interesting to see how the hotel situation pans out for this new location. Although not having a hotel right on the premises is going to be a big inconvenience to some, maybe some of the issues with drunkenness and disorderly conduct would be lessened, because people would have to remember they have to drive back to their room.

JMHO,

That's a good thing to remember for sure, about the driving and drinking. That said, there are some -- thankfully not all -- people who only come to the SBE to drink alcohol and socialize, and this is socializing elsewhere and not on the main floor of the expo.

That's okay if this is your reason for traveling to SBE, to just party, but the majority of folks are there for pool and pool-related activities.

Man, I'm glad I quit drinking in 1978. I'm a good designated driver for anyone who needs a lift. ;)

I think the lack of an attached hotel will hurt participation. Many of us travel with others but we have different interests. Some like to enter as many tournaments as possible, others go for the vendors, some want the all night action. With only one vehicle it will be hard to accommodate everyones hours. It was great to be able to leave and go to the room whenever we wanted.

Hopefully it will be moved to a location with reasonable hotel rates, parking and the area needed.

hi everyone... yes, the news is getting out, we are definitely moving the show to a much bigger and better facility - over 200,000 square feet, all on one floor!

I realize there will be lots of questions and concerns, and I will do my best to address them here for you. I will start a thread soon with an "official" announcement, which will also hopefully create one central thread for people to get info, since I see there are 2 already...

One big concern is the lack of an attached hotel. Yes, that is true. However, the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center has plans to build a hotel in the next year or two, so this is a slight inconvenience. The good thing is that the facility is less than 6 miles from the VFCC. All of the local hotels that you are used to staying in are still in close proximity and travel plans don't really have to be altered. Furthermore, the VFCC and their hotels will provide shuttle service for people to get back and forth. Also, there are twice as many parking spots available - and there will be an Exhibitor Only parking area so exhibitors can get in and out easily.

Finding a venue for this event is not as easy as one may think. The new facility works out great for several reasons For example, there are no union issues for vendors when moving in - which at some places could easily triple the cost of exhibiting. Also, Ed Hagan with Diamond Sports Marketing Enterprises / Billiards Across America has assessed the facility and agreed that we can bring in more tables (and get them out) in a timely manner. If you ever need to rent 200+ Diamond Bar Tables for a weekend, give him a call, he's the nuts. :)

There are 2 central "Halls" at this facility (actually, more than that - we're not even using the whole space - yet). The great thing about this is that one hall can contain the majority of vendors, and be locked up for security overnight. The other Hall/Room can house almost 200 pool tables, and be kept open all night long for players. This means vendors could potentially bring in bigger and better displays; and more vendors can attend.

And, there is another Hall to use for the Pro Arena, which will allow us to bring in twice as many pro tables for a bigger and better pro event.

So, there are lots of great reasons to choose this place. Yes, it is unfortunate that the VFCC is no longer available and is becoming a casino. And yes, that may be a draw to pull some players away, but compared to Atlantic City or Vegas, that pull will be much less.

if you would like to check out the new floorplan, here is a link to a pdf file you can download.

We are doing our best to make the show bigger and better, like we do every year. Our main concern is always that the players and fans have a great time, and the vendors have the opportunity to have a prosperous weekend.

So, if you have questions, go ahead and ask... I'll do my best to get to the forums to address your concerns...

Thanks!
