I just got this email from Darrell Martineau

Dear John,

It isn't just the ACS/BCA instructors that are getting this information! I was contacted as well, along with Steve Lillis and one of our ministry friends, who teaches several students, but are not affiliated with any instructor program, but have business in the billiard industry selling products. Looks like these agents are contacting anyone they can to make a hit and run. Wow!!!!! Steve submitted a proposal, but wanted a phone call to verify everything before money was sent from agent side. Steve didn't get a return call, so I don't think he did anything about it to date.
I told Steve (before receiving this message from you) that something appeared wrong with the entire picture, especially since the agent contacting us had poor spelling and grammer problems -- not very professional.
When I turned it down, I referred a Mr. Peterson Johnson (agent from who knows where) to the billiard instructor programs in the industry. Sounds like they have already done this for some time. Thanks for the heads-up, Tom!!

Glad this has been revealed and hope no one falls victim to this unfortunate situation.

Please pass this along to others as needed.

Thanks! Tom "Dr. Cue" Rossman

ACS Level 4 Coach Tom Simpson has informed the ACS of a scam being currently perpetrated towards billiard coaches. Tom reports that "they typically claim to be travel agents putting together a business trip to the States for their clients. They will be in your city for 30 days or so and would like to take several days to several weeks of instruction. Seems legitimate. Even [a well-known coach] was sucked in to the point of submitting detailed proposals before I happened to talk with him.

This is all done through email, of course. They send you a foreign check for the amount you ask, and then change their plans, shorten the stay, and ask you to refund a portion of the money. Of course, their check doesn't clear... ."

Thanks for the heads-up, Tom. - John

Sounds like the scam they are pulling on ebay where they send you payment and then come pick up some expensive merchandise from you only for the bank to deny the check like 10 - 14 days later.

I have received several of these e-mails in the past few weeks. I responded to one of them that specifically asked for my instructional rates. They wrote back a asking for my bank account information. lol. I just delete them immediately now - that is what I advise other to do as well.

Thanks for alerting other people about this scam.

I'm LOL at this post from FL made today:
"I have two diplomats coming in from South Africa who are
taking private lessons from me 3 times a week for the next two months
and paying me a lot of money to cater to them privately and insure
their total safety, so the match has to be scheduled around them."
D.
( too bad they aren't CANNIBALS from some Pacific island ) :)

Wow, they finally realized Nigeria might raise a red flag so they changed it to South Africa. I can't keep up with these Einsteins, but FL should be renamed SL. Or maybe, SOL.

Chris

Scam Warning & Michael Vick

Yes, watch out when the typed message is in broken english, with spelling & grammer errors. Most of these scams are coming out of Europe. The one I received which is going on quite a bit, is an offer to include "square trade transactions" 3rd party verification. Square Trade is just an extended warranty company that works with eBay.

I would also like to take this opportunity to voice my absolute horror and disgust over Michael Vick / Atlanta Falcons, and his alleged involvement with the treatment and murder of fighting dogs. This is one of the most appalling situations I have ever heard of. I hope it is not true, but he is being charged by a federal grand jury.

Respectfully
Ted
too many cues to name what the heck Ernie Martinez, Chris Byrne, Dave Kikel, Terry McFadden,A-E, Rambow, Phillippi, Mottey, Richard Black, Madison Bob, Southwest, Ned Morris, Pat Diviney, Jim Buss, Abear, Judd Fuller, Ariel Carmeli, Jensen, etc.

Regarding Michael Vick, what is even more disturbing is the sadistic and cruel manner in which they murdered these canines; drowning, hanging, crushing, etc. If these accusations are true, Michael and the brutes involved should do some serious time. In addition, as a role model, Michael is finished... how many kid fans of football as well as adults have pet dogs? These animals are members of the family just like kids. So it is like Michael brutally murdered his kids to them. I for one will never watch another Falcon game if Michael Vick is still on the team!

I hate to turn this into a Michael Vick thing but...

I agree with you straight pool, this has affected me very deeply. I have already emailed the Falcons, and Delta Airlines one of their big sponsers. If something isn't done quickly, I work for a company with 300,000 employees, and they will all be getting an email.
