Schon hit?

I havent played with any other production cue that hits as good as a Schon....the best bar none !

Probably a Joss...the same joint, dimensions are close, etc. The hit's still a little different, but closer than most similar type cues out there, IMHO. If you really know how a Schon hits, you could probably muck around with different tips on a Joss and come pretty close.

Yep wrong section but the 1981S Series and 82-85 R Series play GREAT. Sorry I got rid of my R Series R6-R7-R8-R12-R14-R16 but glad I kept the S6 + S9.Tascarella,Searing, Gus Szamboti + Barry Szamboti Cues play GREAT TOO! Ron

I have several Adams Balabushka series cues and they all hit similiar and I have 5 Schon cues. Mitch

I'm glad you asked this question. A person I played with today had a Schon and I compared it to my Pechauer and the hit was very close.
The Schon had a stock fuelle and what looked like a solid tip. My Pechauer has an ivory fuelle and a layered tip. The Schon did have a little ping when hit and that was probably the tip. But overall very similar.
If you like how a Schon hits you can't go wrong getting one.

I'm interested to know why Schon is considered a production cue.

I never thought they produced large volumes (like mcdermott), am I mistaken?

I stand corrected... you can order a custom Schon (if you've got the green) directly from Schon.

although they're made in small batches, you can't customize one. you get what they make.

You can choose different versions of the same design though (i.e. different woods/veneer colors/etc.) I think that's how they get away with calling it Schon Custom Cues. Definitely a production cue and my personal favorite

That's news to me. You can't get an Ivory joint now but Evan said in an email to me that One of One cues start at $2,500 and up depending on what kind of inlays etc. This was from an email dated last week.

Anyone wanting something custom in a Schon should email Evan Clarke at info@schoncues.com.

Schon Hit

Here is my humble opinion on the Schon hit. If it were me, I would look at a Jensen with a SS joint. All things considered, you get way more cue for the money in a Jensen and it is a custom. I also bet you like the hit a tad bit more than a Schon as well, I have owned both and can't tell the difference in feel, but, the Jensen did play stiffer with the ivory ferrules.

Schön will make you a cue for a price, as far as inlays,...what they wont do is change major things like dimensions or construction materials/ methods....this is why Schön is what they are....their cues are the most consistent cues from cue to cue than any other maker out there. This is why they are regarded as one of the best, you know exactly what your getting with one. It doesn’t matter what model it is or day it was made on.

Ive picked up alot of high end customs and Jensen doesnt hit like Schön (its close like Joss) and Jensen isnt higher quality either...IMO you dont get higher quality than Schön for anywhere near the same money....Ive never seen a inlay flaw on a Schön like you do on most other "high end custom cues"....nothing is perfect … But I do believe Schöns inlay and consistency in hit/balance/feel from cue to cue is as close as it gets....
Alot cue makers can only dream of doing what Schön does in that regard. IMO

say they are this and that, not custom ect.....look up Schön elite/unique and you will see some of the very best cue inlay work on the planet. And for $3000 you get quite a lot compared to some of the coveted custom cue makers, you get a name that everybody knows, holds value well, most importantly you get a cue with the Genuine Schön hit and you don’t have to wait for 5 years to get your dream cue.

The cheapest way to come close to a Schön cue is a Joss butt with a Schön shaft and have the shaft insert turned on a lathe so it mates with the Joss correctly. also their tips are Proprietary so if you cut off the origional tip and put a Lepro or Triangle on its gonna change the HIT....there are inconsistancys in Schöns tips and this is probably their biggest weakness as far as hit consistency....i have a Schön shaft that i wont touch the tip on because its the shaft that i measure all other cues against(even my other schon shafts dont quite hit like this one) The only place you can get the tips is at Schon's work shop or maybee if you email schon real nice. ....recently i put a elkmaster milk dud on a Schon IV shaft with a pad, and i like the results i got, different.... but nice.

some people dont like the Schon hit some do....im one that does.
