Scooter, Family Man and Best Hustler in America

Good post Jay. This is what I like on AZ. I have an opinion, and if someone comes up with a reason or 2, I will probably change mine.

I had posted in another thread that I found Scooter to be quite annoying. That was based on watching a video or 2 of him, most likely DCC.

Now, after listening and seeing how he handled himself in this trailer, I have a bit of a different opinion of him. He may still end up being annoying in future episodes but I will wait and see.

Yeah, I seriously dislike thieves, but I guess everyone gets a second chance. I have had a few.

He and his buddy pulled off one or 2 douche bag moves and most likely hurt an innocent person.

Thats nothing compared to how I feel re Fat Boy and how he made his money and brags about it.

Steal a little, steal a lot. Yer still a thief. I guess its how you handled your lifes lesson and how you continue to handle yourself in the future.

No doubt Scooter is entertaining. He can hustle well. Misleading on providing for his family. I'm sure he provides some, however, that crew and their expenses seems to out weight income. Scooter's parents are really well off financially. Those kids and the rent is more likely paid for. Giving him freedom to play without really sweating the money. In Ohio, Scooter and David Peat (dippy Dave/ viffer), were real charactes playing pool for money.

Dippy Dave would make a better a more interesting story. In pool and poker. I find Dave to be a more self made person. He is a pretty sharp person in business as well. Just my 2 cents...

Ask and you shall receive ---> HERE

Sorry, FAIL! It's one thing to really be a hustler and quite another to fake it. I was there during the filming of this promo and left after about thirty minutes. It was all just too hokey for me.

This is way wrong on some many accounts. It makes me nauseous to think that pool is gonna depicted with Scooter as a front man. :barf: Can we get a worse stereotype??? He's a petty criminal and represents just the opposite of what pool ought to be.

Maybe they can get Honey Boo Boo to guest star.

I can see why people don't like it but if you think it will hurt pool, you're crazy.

There are a few reality shows with a similar theme in the works and at least one that's been picked up and green lit by a major network for 10-12 episodes. Hopefully this show will get picked up as well, scooter is fun to watch.

I don't care if any production is clean, dirty, or otherwise, if it gets new people interested in the game, it can't be bad for the growth of the sport.

Personally, I haven't got a shred of gamble in me, nor have I ever had any admiration for the lifestyle of the hustler. But, I will watch this new series with great interest, just as I watch many other sports on TV where good guy/bad guy scenarios are battled out every week. And I will most likely be putting Scooter and his crew in my own "bad guy" category, and will be hoping to see them totally busted in the end.

As for the "join the campaign" invitation, I'll just say...no thanks. If they really have a winner in this program, then I'm sure they can get production money from people who are in the investment business. As they "hustle their way across America" I don't plan to be one of those hustled.

Whether you hate what scooter does or like it, I think most of you will watch it.

Right guy for the part and very good promo. It may just take off.

Scooter might be appealing to the non-pool people.

That's the big factor imo !

Investment opprotunity !

I think it will work

Regardless of your personal opinion of Scooter Goodman , you have to admit he is entertaining

I think it will draw more people to play

the Hustler 1961 was a down and Gritty story about the dark side of life of a Pool hustler and it caused a major upswing in pool

TCOM was a story about the same Hustler and his Protégé , who he was teaching the art of the Hustle , and it caused yet another boom

Myself and the thousands of other guys my age , who picked up a cue in the 80s , We did not want to be upstanding tournament players we all aspired to be a hustler

Reality Shows are about entertainment and this could give a much needed boost to pool where a new generation of yes wait for it " Hustlers" are inspired to pick up a cue

I see many who say that the gambling and hustling and the darker side of the pool world has hurt pool , but that Image is the pool world that is the reality

I think this show will help pool a lot if it takes off , and doing this as a web series is a great idea in the youtube generation

You tell 'em I put some extra quarters in the car wash today just for them.

Most people seem to rag on scooter for the carwash crime. They dont get the big picture. scooter's not a pool hustler, hes a con man. He uses pool to con people out of their money. There are few , if any, real 'hustlers' in pool in the last 20 + years.
Hustlin pool is about people management, not playing phony matches to take off the side action, or the 'double-steer', or dumpin off backers, or 'layin a spread'. Its an art to make a player think he can win your money , when he cant!
I would probably watch, but wouldn't 'stick my nose in the action' unless I knew 'who was pitchin & who was catchin'.
Donate to scooter??? I just looked in the mirror and there is no 'sucker' on my forehead! ( glad that washed off! lol ).
Good luck
ps
If this doesnt come off, dont be surprised if scooter walks away with all the money.
As he says ' thats my J O B ' !

ESPN talks about spreads while showing clips from sundays games or college football spreads. thats okay bc its more accepted for some reason to bet on football, but if someone has the BALLS to put his own skill on the line for money, and in pool none the less, where the smallest mistake measured in millimeters counts, its a bad thing?? people are hypocrites, full of shit, and most are like monkeys, monkey see monkey do, be it with pop culture or fashion or whatever. F them all, pool is played for money, you dont like it too bad, go watch GLEE. this is about as real as it gets, and all the good reality shows in my opinion are the ones where people are running around hustlin to make a living. scooter is the most vocal and he got tapped for the part, those who knock him have something missing, what the is only they know. for gods sake, accept pool for what it is, the good stories come from jhonston city, or derby city, or some crazy game that went bad, or good.. shane is the best tourney player in the world right now, but he gambles with the best of them. hes a true pro, and I love him for it, he throws down with the best gamblers too, and I love him the more for it. stop try to turn pool into a family game, it can be, sure, but dont deny it its DNA, money games. I think this is the first true and honest direction pool has taken ever. the pool tournaments will come and go, but money games for 20 dollars to 20 thousand will always stay. and for the old schoolers who think the scooter isnt fats, no shit, but he can be one day, the kid is 26, give him time. embrace the moment. cheers:thumbup:

I am curious as how this could possible hurt pool?

Aren't we pretty much two levels below foosball at this point?

(We can't even get Odor Eaters to sponsor a tournament..even Bowling can get that)

I do not know or care about Skippy, Cranky or any other of the "Look at my cool nickname" crowd..was just curious about the doom and gloom.

Scooter is a shitty person.

Pool's image will remain shitty.

Ridiculous "reality" shows are making millions of dollars off of crap waaaaaaay worse than what Scotter is going to do.

That's shitty.

thanks for pointing out the obvious!

What do you think? ----------> Promo trailer.

The fund-raising campaign begins December 1st, and the filimg begins January 2015 ---> HERE.

I like the promo. It's funny. :grin-square:

Did they change the name after I pointed out in a thread that "American Hustler" was already an existing show about something completely different?
I guess google is not everybody's friend.

+1

I am with you my friend.

"Crowd funding" a "web" reality series?

OK this is pretty serious.

The last "crowd funded" thing I remember being promoted here was a pool apparel company that took almost 45 days before they pulled the plug at $800 some dollars. The goal to go forward was something like $30,000 I think.

Good luck.

Preach on brother. This is why pool is intriguing to a lot of people. Let the naysayers h8. I just don't like the fact that they're going to be able to reap the rewards of masses coming to the pool scene. Then again a lot of people of sheep and that's just their nature. I don't think they can ever change.
