Scooter, Family Man and Best Hustler in America

Cutty doesn't play anymore, he was entertaining also.

I saw Cutty and, of all people, Scotty Townsend in the finals of a tournament in Maryland when I first came back to the pool scene after a long hiatus. Man, that was great tournament. We had a blast.

I rented a suite at a nearby hotel. After the tournament was over, we had a poker game in the suite. Fun times.

I always liked Cutty. He had a lot of class. The University of Maryland pool hustler. :grin-square:

The crew!

Look at how that "regular" layman by the name of Chris Moneymaker put poker on the map. This reality series, if successful, could also be a boon to pool businesses across America, increased patronage of pool rooms, new pool rooms opening up, et cetera, the same way it did after "The Color of Money" in 1986.

This is a modernday version of "The Color of Money," only it's a reality series. Like the Kardashians, I'm sure some of it will be scripted and fake, and pool aficionados likes us will recognize these portions. It will still be entertaining to the masses, and that's what TV wants. If it sells, it's good for business. I like it. I like it a lot! :clapping::clapping::clapping:

Of course, true reality is not interesting enough to keep today's ADHD riddled population watching for a full episode so there is sure to be some "scripted" elements. I don't think there is a "reality" show in existence that is not somewhat scripted. I, for one, look forward to seeing it! The poolrooms, the people, the places I am familiar with and hell, I might even be there for a match while they are filming! The whole thing sounds like fun to me whether or not I "like" Scooter. I wish them well and hope it succeeds!
Now I must tend to my leaf covered lawn...

Scooter definitely has a certain charm about him. He's got charisma. That's what sells, not tournament robots with no emotion playing pool. Scooter lights up the room when he walks in. Everybody who knows who Scotter is will be well aware that there is action in the midst. It's only a matter of time. :smile2:

I'm wishing Scooter, the crew, and the film production company all the success in the world. What I have seen so far, I like it. The music, the words, the graphics, everything looks cool, so far. This could be the booster shot in the arm that pool needs so desparately.

I have to admit tho. After watching the promo, it looks 100% more polished and interesting than Fat Boys trailer for his show.

I watched Fat Boys and it was laughable at best. At least this one looks like it might have half a chance in todays market.

Scooter is a ton more well spoken than the Fat Boy.

Scooter is the real deal.

Fat Boy is a wannabe, a Drama Queen, no more , no less.
He is The Real Housewives of Whatever County.

Scooter eats him for a snack, then goes to the bathroom and feeds him to the sharks.

With all the big hits in the NFL, the in your face slam dunks of the NBA, the 200mph NASCAR, leaves little room for a newcomer to billiards to watch a guy walk around a table and put 9 balls in a pocket. Specially when he is in a vest dressed like a waiter. Facts are facts, professional pool played in that manner is boring to the majority of the tv audience. They rather watch a guy wrestle a gator or a big muscle bound guy with tattoos kick someone in the face and put him in a choke hold.
Look at the popular reality shows, drama, drama, drama. The popular shows are where we watch people's lives spin out of control. Do you think a show where we watch SVB wake up early, eat a healthy breakfast, workout, go to Subway for lunch,
then practice for twelve hours would be good for pool? It would definatly cast a positive light on pool and the hard work it takes to be good, maybe even get some positive sponsor money, but the majority of today's viewing audience would be bored. They don't want to have to work that hard to make that little bit of money.
I would rather watch the excitement of the up and down rollercoaster ride of the underground scene and big money back n forth action. That's just me.
The Hustler helped the pool scence, pool players, and brought a lot of new money to all the poolhalls across America, TCOM did the same, it seems to me the more we try to clean it up over time, the less people are interested in it. It is a nitty, gritty, sometimes dangerous game and I for one like that. I would much rather watch Keith McCready, Minnesota Fats, Cornbread Red, Scott Frost, Danny Smith, Josh Roberts gamble, than I would like to watch Ralf Soque or Thorsten run 200 balls. That's just me.

You've got good taste! :grin-loving:

Im not taking a position on this one way or the other but would like to just point out a couple facts.

Most of the big action that we all enjoy either watching, being involved in or hearing about happens because of the money infused by various types of people from a wide variety of places. Whether you want to think about it or not the $$$ has to initially come from somewhere. While def some legit money is in play I'd venture to say its not the norm. It has been that way for decades and decades.

In regards to the poster who thinks pool not being reputable is driving or keeping away the general public I just dont think thats true. If you were too look at the Godfather trilogy and the Sopranos. Both enormously successful even considered by many to be all time classics. Both were so successful because they were by millions of the " average " folks.
