Scorpion Cues = bad rep

TXsouthpaw...To to be trivial...but Shane played with a JOSS custom made for him...for years! :D

I have no doubt Scott is much more educated than me on all things pool, but why was I under the impression that SVB played with a Schon before getting sponsored by Cuetec? I thought it was his mother's cue or something like that.

and why did you have to throw walmart in there...i think most of us should remember that walmart is now in the business of high end cues also lmfao...they sell schon online now

Please visit as many Walmart stores as you possibly can and tell me the number of Mizerak cues you find and the number of Schon cues you find. I am talking about on the shelf in the store.

They are what they are, entry level cues because of the quality and the price. Live with it.

So was I. But I'm not 100%. I'll take scotts word for it though

ok then it was a joss butt with a schon shaft. or the other way around. I always get it confused

Actually Shane started with a complete Joss cue that Danny Janes custom made for him. Then he started playing with his mothers Schon butt, but used the Joss shaft that he had played with for years.

That sounds right. So it was a joss butt first then the schon.
He just kept the shaft. Which makes sense. So me and Scott were right.

Schon customers are going to be far more discriminating in knowing exactly which cue, which weight, etc they want. Wal Mart would have to stock every style in every weight available. Imagine the cost to put an entire line of cues in every Wal Mart store in the country.

The year is now 2010. I dare say more high end cues are sold online than in actual pool room pro shops. If someone wants a $20 cue, they will go to the store, pick the one that they like, and take it home. Ain't gonna happen when someone is spending $1000 on a cue.

When was the last time you saw a selection of Schon's for sale anywhere other than online?

Steve

I've owned about 12 break cues in my life and I'd have to put my Scorpion at the bottom of the list.

Beer:30...Just FYI, but inlay work has absolutely NOTHING to do with the quality of a custom made cue, nor does it have anything to do with what the cue "feels" like, when you hit with it.
www.poolknowledge.com

That's not what "How It's Made" said! Pretty inlay work gives you more confidence at the table and makes you shoot better, so saith the history channel. :D

I know. Once you start getting inlay work it's diminishing returns on your money performance wise. Sorry if that wasn't clear. You get what you pay for performance wise until you start paying for inlays. Then you get what you pay for in eye candy. I've found, with my limited experience anyway, most of how a cue plays is in the shaft and the tip. If you've got a strait, cheap shaft a little polishing and a good tip make it play pretty nice ..... until it warps.

lucasi new or used. used joss that way you can retaper the shaft how you like it
I've had a lucasi for 6 years and it's still mostly strait. If you squint really hard you can see a little bit of roll in the shaft and the butt. Still plays great. It actually turned out to be a pretty good investment!

I'm a firm believer in the "you get what you pay for" thought process. Will a Scorpion cue's quality outlast that of a Schon or a custom Searing, for example? No. Does it provide a less expensive alternative to people seeking a two piece cue? Absolutely.

I don't agree with this in regards to playability. So much of a cues price is wrapped up in the name of the maker and the decoration, neither of which do anything for the playability. I have hit cheap cues that perform just as well as $1000 cues.

this just gave me a good idea however..... Is there a 313 shaft I can put on a scorpion butt? if you thought the sneaky pete was genius... The sneaky scorpion is where it's at haha.

Just gotta get that predator logo off of the shaft and bam I will look like a super nit when I swear by my scorpion cue. Might get me some good action... not that it will help because I play like I should own a real scorpion anyways lol.

In all seriousness tho... can I get a 313 on a scorpion? lol.

A 313 shaft is EXTREMELY sneaky.
Why would you want to get rid of it?

JA is to Scorpion what ES "was" to Cuetec...Marketing.

I will let the individual decide if it is entry level equipment or not.......Just like I would never stop a customer from buying Top Flight Golf Balls either.

because I would want the cue to appear to be an all scorpion cue obvs. just getting rid of the predator logo on the shaft.

but does anyone know if the 313 will go on the scorpion butt?

I would like to know why when people mention scorpion cues they instantly get a bad rep or they (the poster) are told just shoot with (insert cue manufacturer here) cue, why is there so much disdain & snobbery towards scorpion as a cue brand.

I don't think there is any snobbery at all, I personally think that Scorpion Cues are just another Cheap import, that compare to many other imports, outside of that I do not think these cues are worth to much thought at all.

Just yanking your chain.
What you really mean is a *314*shaft (just think PI)

my attitude probably comes from being 'robbed on a bank'
