Scott Frost & Make it Happen

I really thought Scott was hungry for a win after his defeat to Alex at 8 a head; apparently not. In the contrary, his skill that i know it was lacking.

Does anyone have a reason for why he played so bad?

An observer on the one pocket.org site suggested that Scott has a lot of body movement and a long bridge and dips his cue. The bigger table magnifies little glitches in your mechanics that do not show up on the regulation tables.

SVB probably has the best mechanics for any size table.

I can play a little bit and Scott has beat me twice giving me 10/5 for the cheese.

NOBODY runs balls like he does when he gets rolling, but it looks like the ten footer has slowed him down so far.

there was some mention of personal issues with scott which he talked about some while he was commentating
i came late and didnt hear all he said
he was appreciative of the support from the fans and promised to rededicate himself to the game
this doesnt explain all his bad play but when he was left on the head rail due to his size the space which was designed for a 9 footer made it awkward for him to assume his proper stance

I have only played one chumpion, getting 10-5 and it was humbling...

Pretty solid posts!

I wonder how Cliff Joyner would have fared at this event.

I found out that this was the very first time Scott played on a 5x10 Diamond table.

I haven't seen Cliff on one of these. Has he played on one ?

I think this was the biggest factor of Scotts record, which with a little more precision could have been very different.

It doesn't take too much to lose to anyone of the other 5.

A mistake can let your opponent go 8 and out with anyone in that field !

There is a secret that i have found recently still working on, of which it looks like SVB has found in last few months and able to apply on every shot.
no it is not too much practice!!

10' table makes it a completely different game. I would add however that although every one played on the same table, it had to be tough for Scott being on a 10' for the first time.

Good showing from all involved. I hope this 10' table thing doesn't catch on though. I'm just not a big fan.

best,

Justin

He said during one of the commentaries he did (during a player timeout) that he had "something happen" to him right after he arrived for the event. He didn't go into detail, but noted it was distracting him from the tournament. He said he was "fine" and his was family was all okay. He also said he hasn't been dedicated to the game the last year or so; which is pretty obvious given his last few showings.

He also went on to say that most of the players he talked to didn't like the 5x10 either, not for one pocket. He mentioned all of his "power" moves just don't work on a bigger table. And to some degree, I can see that - there's more surface area, so it's much easier to have a ball leak out. Think about playing 8-ball on a barbox compared to a 9 footer.

I, too, noticed his usual stroke was lying crumpled in the corner of the room. I've never seen him steer the cueball as much/often as he did during this tournament.

Overall, I really thoroughly enjoyed the tournament and some of the 8/9-n-outs were simply amazing!

Well we all have our own opinions. Scott is a great player. But he is outmanned by this group. They would beat him on any size table. From a bar table to a snooker table. Scott is like a mid level pro in overall pool skills with a specialty in one hole. All the other players are TOP TOP TOP tier in general pool skills, with maybe less experience than Scott in one hole (except Shannon and efren). The overall skill prevails. Especially when there is a significant difference like in this group.

Your right, everyone has their own opinion and I completely agree with yours.

Scott is an excellent one pocket players but for a number of years much of that is due to his knowledge of the game. Now that these top tier pro's are catching up in the knowledge department, Scott game will continue to lose ground to the likes of Shane, Corey and Alex. They just out execute him.

After i have seen enough of Scott's play, i agree his skill is not up to par with others. Another thing, other players already been hurt enough (experienced) with what power play does; therefore, play smarter; and give the bait to Scott who still bite on it, eventually, he will get there.

Most relevant post so far IMO

Although I agree with almost everything being said here about mechanics and him being out executed, I also think his 1pocket play isn't quite as far behind as it appeared this week. A person's mental state is THE BIGGEST FACTOR. Having said all that, I still think on his best day, he would likely finish 4th in this field. He is a great player, no doubt. But you only have to be a hair dull or off to fall all the way down the mountain to this kind of competition.

I think you hit it on the head. Shane was the best at ball pocketing and still missed some shots. If you watched you will see that Scott didn't move bad. He missed balls.

Oh, and the break on a 10 footer was a joke. These are the best players in the world and didn't know what to do.
