I really thought Scott was hungry for a win after his defeat to Alex at 8 a head; apparently not. In the contrary, his skill that i know it was lacking.
Does anyone have a reason for why he played so bad?
An observer on the one pocket.org site suggested that Scott has a lot of body movement and a long bridge and dips his cue. The bigger table magnifies little glitches in your mechanics that do not show up on the regulation tables.
SVB probably has the best mechanics for any size table.
Very interesting...I never did like his form, but it sure as hell whups mine every time!
I have only played one chumpion, getting 10-5 and it was humbling...I can play a little bit and Scott has beat me twice giving me 10/5 for the cheese.
NOBODY runs balls like he does when he gets rolling, but it looks like the ten footer has slowed him down so far.

I wonder how Cliff Joyner would have fared at this event.

...on a 10-ft table. This can't be emphasized enough.Simple answer: The other players are better than Scott.
I found out that this was the very first time Scott played on a 5x10 Diamond table.

Well we all have our own opinions. Scott is a great player. But he is outmanned by this group. They would beat him on any size table. From a bar table to a snooker table. Scott is like a mid level pro in overall pool skills with a specialty in one hole. All the other players are TOP TOP TOP tier in general pool skills, with maybe less experience than Scott in one hole (except Shannon and efren). The overall skill prevails. Especially when there is a significant difference like in this group.
Your right, everyone has their own opinion and I completely agree with yours.
Scott is an excellent one pocket players but for a number of years much of that is due to his knowledge of the game. Now that these top tier pro's are catching up in the knowledge department, Scott game will continue to lose ground to the likes of Shane, Corey and Alex. They just out execute him.
He said during one of the commentaries he did (during a player timeout) that he had "something happen" to him right after he arrived for the event. He didn't go into detail, but noted it was distracting him from the tournament. He said he was "fine" and his was family was all okay. He also said he hasn't been dedicated to the game the last year or so; which is pretty obvious given his last few showings.
He also went on to say that most of the players he talked to didn't like the 5x10 either, not for one pocket. He mentioned all of his "power" moves just don't work on a bigger table. And to some degree, I can see that - there's more surface area, so it's much easier to have a ball leak out. Think about playing 8-ball on a barbox compared to a 9 footer.
I, too, noticed his usual stroke was lying crumpled in the corner of the room. I've never seen him steer the cueball as much/often as he did during this tournament.
Overall, I really thoroughly enjoyed the tournament and some of the 8/9-n-outs were simply amazing!
