The upcoming induction of two new members to the One Pocket Hall of Fame got me thinking:

Who would win - Scott Frost vs the One Pocket Greats of the One Pocket Hall of Fame if these greats were in their prime.

Ronnie Allen
Artie Bodendorfer
Jack Breit
Melvin Brooks
Billy Burge
Marshall Carpenter
Steve Cook
Jack Cooney
Danny DiLiberto
John Fitzpatrick
Jimmy Fusco
Billy Incardona
Marvin Henderson
The Jansco Brothers
Larry Johnson
Ed Kelly
Hayden Lingo
Grady Mathews
Efren Reyes
Leonard Rucker
Bill Staton
Eddie Taylor

I witnessed Danny Harriman play Billy Johnson one pocket - New School vs Old School. Danny had his opponents head spinning, saying he just go lucky and what kinda shot was that. A few months later, Billy Johnson posted the same great shots in a billiard magazine. I wonder if Scott could make this list of players head spin or would he be outclassed?

IMO he would beat everyone on the list besides Efren, he did win the last time but we shall see if one day they have a rematch but now Efren is past his prime. I think San Jose Dick and Billy Incardona are the best guys to judge Scott vs the rest of them as they have seen most if not all of the list play and also Scott.

i always heard ronnie allen was a stone cold killer playing one hole, so it would be cool to hear from sjd or mr incardona on how they see it.

i would like to beat on jersey red against the frezzer...but o well that will never happen...

They are both lefties but I think Scott played a solid ball over Jersey Red in one pocket. I know Dick has played with both and also Ronnie Allen and knows how they all play, come on Dick and chime in bud.

I think on any given day all these killers have a chance to beat each other.....Scott Included. My question is this, has anyone ever watched Scott play a "wedge" type player? Someone like Mr. Varner? I would like to se if pure fire power out runs a calculated killer?

good thread IMO

A lot of great players across the country not listed!

There are a ton of great One hole players not listed. Danny Dilimberto comes to the top of my list. Players that play other games just don't care that much about One pocket. I still think Efern Reyes is the best!

and one of the all time most ducked players.....Allen Hopkins!

What about Gabe Owen? Hopefully we'll get to see allot of great one pocket player at Tulsa for Gabe's tournament.

Scott wouldn't have it easy beating Ronnie Allen, Efren, Ed Kelly, Grady, Cookie Monster, LJ (Boston Shorty), Eddie Taylor or Bugs, in their prime. I don't think he necessarily knows the game or runs the balls any better than these champs in their prime.

Most of the other players I'd guess he's at least equal to or have zero idea of how good they played. Hayden Lingo is a like the Bagger Vance of pool, you're not even sure if he's real. Freddie should make a movie of his quest for the lost Hayden Lingo one pocket charts.

Allen Hopkins was a great one pocket player in the early 90's. Parica murdered the field at a mid 90's one pocket event too. I'd consider them worthy of the list.

I don't think I would of bet on Diliberto beating most of those guys on the list in their prime. He couldn't beat RA even when he was clearly past his peak in the match Helfert sells.

Maybe Scott would beat them all except Efren. Shannon Daulton certainly held his own with them in the Legends tourneys...they were all past their primes then, though.

Sorry, but there a lot of guys on that list that I would rate over Scott Frost. In fact, most of them! Bugs, Taylor, Ronnie, Efren, Rags, Cookie, Marvin. C'MON, these guys were great players! These are not shortstops here. Kelly, Shorty, Cooney, Jersey Red, Cornbread! PLEASE. If Scott Frost got a steady diet of these players, he would have to find a new job.

I'd like to see Grady chime in here since he played so many of the above guys, and held his own. And he's seen Scott play. In their prime Sigel and Mizerak would have chewed him up too. Probably Hopkins and maybe Rempe, Varner and Fusco as well. Scott has a huge offense but the guys I listed were just better pool players.

I remember when Mark Tadd was running all over everybody in L.A., firing in balls from everywhere and running out. He ran into Steve Cook in the finals and it was a whole different story. Steve out moved and out shot Mark in every aspect of the game. He totally shut down Mark's big offense. To play truly great One Pocket takes a complete player, who can handle whitey and knows when to shoot and when to duck. Scott ain't there yet.

P.S. Ask Scott how he came out with a 60+ Ervolino in Vegas about ten years ago. The best One Pocket players of this current generation IMO are Shannon and Gabe. Joyner was a better player too before his shoulder went out.

Hi Jay,

Almost saved me a post by mentioning Mike Sigel. People forget how well he played one hole. In his prime, his shot making ability and stone cold nerves make Mike the favorite in that match.

Watched Freezer play Lil John in Vegas. Never seen one hole played like that before. Perhaps my judgement is clouded by watching the "old timers" for so long. Agree Freezer is not the favorite to most on the list. Original or revised.

Honestly, i think that the majority of the list could beat Scott giving him a ball. EASY. He might beat one or two.

Obviously, the local fanfare is just that, guys who know Scott personally, and are emotionally invested in his ability as he is a friend to them. So they overrate his game.

But, to say he's the favorite over most of them?

Please.

Most of these guys would wipe the floor with him.

I'd be willing to bet that they would hands down out squeeze him all day long and that he would be the first one to start taking flyers.

No offense to Scott as he is a great player, but he's not THAT great.

Again - I was only mentioning people that are in the One Pocket Hall of Fame. From the website, it doesn't show Sigel or Hopkins as be voted in with this group. If anyone wants to revise the list, then I suggest you get the ability to vote with this group.

Watchez,

You're correct on the membership. From the little one hole Mike played, doubt if he should be in the HOF anyway. Doesn't take away from his ability to play the game though. Just prefered 9 ball and 14.1. IMHO

i dont think this is a fair poll since alot of the knowledge that frost has is the end result of stuff that was done by many of these greats.

i am not looking to knock scott down, cause he shoots a great game, just trying point out the obvious.

along with what i said, i dont think that scott would fair too well with all of these greats in thier prime.

One player not on your list already made Scott's head spin, Nick V. I witnessed it at the early part of the past decade at DCC. They started betting 2 or 300 a game and it got doubled quickly with Nick winning pretty easily. I can tell you from conversations that Nick thought it was a pretty soft game for him at the time.
