Scotty Townsend Rumor

I second that. I've never met anyone more entertaining and sincere than Scotty. There are so many smaller stories it's hard to remember them all.

He once said while walking around a hotel at a tournament he saw a bat sitting on top of a 6' light post along the walk-way. He continued by saying:

"I went up to dat der bat, jumped up and smashed it dead."

Of course, I had to ask why. (wouldn't you after that comment???)

He replied:

"Because, bats ya see....they 'exist in congregation.' See one bat, ya seen hundreds of bats. Ya seen one bat alone like that der bat... well, he's been ex-congregated.... which means he's about to kick the bucket. So ya see, I done him a favor."

(Makes sense to me now, in all seriousness - right?)

The same guy, if you spend some quality time with him, will give you the most indescribably insightful aspects of the mental game you could ever imagine. If you think you're plateaued, talk to Scotty. He'd be eager to share with you how to condition your mind to play better.

Not only that, he can tell you the book and the exact page of which to read to not only improve whatever is wrong with your game, but also how to quit smoking!

Don't candy coat it Playboy, tell it like it is.

This is an old thread with old news. Playboy was banned and so was Walt Frazier. It turned out that Playboy & Walt Frazier were the SAME person.

"Playboy" went on to sign up at onepocket's Forum and introduced himself as:

Posted By playboy
AZ Billiards-Walt Frazier

"For those of you who don't know,my name is Tony Green and I am a former member of AZbilliards ..What I plan to do is to be more active on this forum, share more pool stories and get more involved.... "

Playboy/Walt Frazier is still a member there and has been behaving himself. Good for him.

I haven't seen Scotty townsend since he was running around with Jimmy "catfish"court quite a few years ago... and we were in a tournament together.... Jimmy was always a polite guy as well as Scotty and It's a shame we lost Jimmy recently to cancer..

and since pro billiards closed in orlando all the players kind of went their own direction....

I'm almost afraid to ask this question, but is Scotty still alive and if so does anyone know where he's living now ???

we have been losing alot of "legends" in this game the last few years and since I haven't seen him it had me wondering....

I was at a 9-ball tourn. at pocket's billiards in dothan back in 98' had a great time ! very comfortable room... I hope it's still there !

BTW, some might not know that Andy Gilbert and Scotty Townsend ar first cousins. I spoke with both of them about it at the Olathe ring game in August. Andy is loaded with stories about Scotty.

True Story

Given the number of viewers on this thread, it's obvious there are a lot of Scotty fans out there so I'm going to share a true story with you.

It was the early seventies and Scotty and I were on the road looking for action. We drove into Vicksburg, Ms. with the hope of finding a black player by the name of "Red" who was reported to be good action. After several stops we found someone who said that Red would likely be down at the Monte Carlo, but warned us not to go there. He explained that no "white folks" went into that part of town. Scotty thanked him for the advice and then asked him for directions to the Monte Carlo.

It was still daylight as we neared our destination. It was starting to look like we had been given good advice. I hadn't seen any other "white folks" for a while now. ( Keep in mind that this was a period of time when racial tensions were very high in this area.) When we pulled into the parking lot and got out of the car, we couldn't have drawn more attention if we had landed in a spaceship. Everyone on the street froze in position and stared at us in amazement.

Scotty grabbed his cue and we headed to the front door. We could tell from the noise coming from the building that the place was already packed. What happened next was like a scene out of a movie. We had gotten no more than four steps inside and the whole place had gone deadly silent. I had been through a lot with Scotty, but even I wasn't prepared for what he did next. In a voice loud enough for everyone to hear Scotty asked, "Do any of you ni--ers play nine-ball for money?" To this day I remember my exact thought at that moment, "Oh Sh-t, we're dead".

The silence was only broken when the bartender started laughing and said "You boys gotta be crazy, come over here and let me buy you a drink". Looking back, I don't know if the bartender really thought we were crazy, or was just trying to do whatever he could to prevent a double homocide from occuring in his establishment. Either way, it was a hugh relief to see everyone gradually return to what they were doing before we came in.

We learned that Red was out of town and there were no other players around. Despite Scotty's desire to stick around for another drink, I convinced him we had pushed our luck enough and it was time to go. When we stepped outside I was surprised to see some of the people on street still in the same position as they were when we went in. Obviously, they had been waiting to see if we would make it out alive.

You ever see those T-Shirts that say "No Fear" on them? Well Scotty was the inspiration for them!

Truthfully the man has the biggest set of balls I've ever seen on any human. If you told him King Kong was around the corner, he would say let me see. I sure hope he makes it to DCC. It's been a while.

Jay,

Do you mean it's been a while since he made it to the DCC? I'd love to introduce my wife to Scotty.

I really don't think she's ever met anyone like him. :D

David,
When you see him again, ask him if he would ever consider writing an autobiography or maybe having someone like Jerry Forsyth pen a biography with Scotty's assistance. Can you imagine!?!
What would you say the early odds are on him consenting?

I would love to have that picture of Scotty in his cowboy boots, cowboy hat and non-matching off colored short pants. You had to see it to believe it. :D
