Screen Names & Real Identity

This is kinda funny....I got the nickname big daddy when i was starting out as a mobile dj...in bars and such. I used to wear alot of those bigdaddy gear t shirts with the different sayings on them. I've since gotten too big to shop for shirts in the big and tall shops, aint that something...lol. so until they open a great big and tall shop im screwed for cool gear.

I use this name becuase if I use what I am normally called I will be banned, HAHAHAHA. In real life I cant use my real name cause I am automatically associated with a real bad person in the pool world...sigh.

"BIG STEVE" in Miami is not "BIG STEVE" the "WHALE". He is dead...been dead over a decade but if I say my name is "BIG STEVE" people always look for lighting or gunfire. Having outted myself I will go back to being called Voodoo...works for me and I lower the chance of being struck by something that will hurt:D

Steve Ferraro Jr~~~~just dont call me Francis

lighten up Francis

sorry, couldn't resist

I'm going to beat Hippiepool and Jeff to the punch and declare that ANY effort to make us reveal our real names is CLEARLY an effort by Bush/Cheney/Rove to use the Patriot Act to violate our civil rights. The ACLU should be notified immediately about this eggregious violations.

What's going on here? It's like an AZ version of I'll show you mine if you show me your's. Knock it off! :D

Seriously, I just prefer to know that clients, employees, nephews, can't google my real name and start looking through my posts. It's not that there's any great personal secrets, it's just that this is a hobby and I prefer to keep it private from a few people, not a lot.

Especially since my real name is spelled very uniquely. There's only one of me in the entire country, maybe the world. I'm one of those guys who can never say it must have been some other guy with the same name.

I know a fellow who was stalked some time ago and beaten up, in a public place. His real name was splashed in different places online, which made it easy for someone to figure out who he was, get a picture of him, and mug him unexpectedly. Retaining a degree of anonymity is probably a good thing for most people; never know when some wacko or sicko or criminal will decide it's their turn to go after someone. Celebrities often have bodyguards, for good reasons....

well I dont live on leighton but I work there.. I was stationed in Kitizgen when I was in..

Bit of sad news.. Faulenberg, along with Larson, Harvey, and Marshall heights (in Kitz) are all closed now... Leighton turned into the largest AAFES store in Europe / Worldwide for a while .. but sadly it is closing down also... the hospital is gone as well.... about a year left around here and every body is gone... Bamberg and Schweinfurt will follow within the next few years too...

hence the reason I am relocating .

Well for some folks this may be a good idea !

 But seriously not necessary for me ! Since in my case I am not a celebrity and I don't try and dog anyone or purposefully make enemies on here or other sites! ;) I won't worry about the stalking or mugging fear! Besides Scott Lee, Blackjack and a bunch of others that post here and other sites through the years already know my name ! :D

My name is Phil "MrLucky 7" Carpentiere Folks started calling me Mr Lucky many, many years ago in college (1969) when I flipped a 911 S out at Bridgehampton and was T boned ! I came out with nary a scratch and have used the name ever since! :)

Peace!

GerryGerrybowberrybananafanamowmerry

If anyone wants to find info on me in the pool world, it's not that difficult. Just google "Gerry the pool room ATM folding chair", and you have my life story!

I wanna know if this new rule means I now have to pick an alias since I use my real name?

notGerry

Even though I think your idea has merit and could work...

The more I hang around forums like AZ, the more I realize the need for the screen names to have real names attached to them.

We all get a little excited from time to time and make statements that are sometimes painful or aggravating to others. By using a screen name with no real name related, we are able to hide behind that screen name, woof at people anonymously, even make false accusations and not be held accountable for our comments.

For some anonymous posters, the name calling, the threats, the woofing and the intimidation makes them feel a little taller, a little stronger and more than what they really are. But in reality it shows a weakness in our character as men and women. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind a little controversy an enjoy the woofing as much as the next guy, I just like people to be held accountable for their words and actions.

Screen names are COOL and I don't think they should go away, ever. The screen names are fun and personal and identify certain things about us.

I was thinking that it would be pretty neat to have like a CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY FOR SCREEN NAMES, you know where your screen name was related to the name on your drivers license or birth certificate. It would be a badge of courage so to speak, and those who were "certified" would be given a certain level of respect that is not given to other forum members. By being certified, you are then held to a different set of standards, unlike anyonymous posters.

I am sure many would prefer to remain anonymous regardless and that is fine but for hard-core members who value their words and deeds a certification of their real identity would speak volumes.

Does anyone think there is any merit to this hair-brained idea?

Who knows, maybe the AZ system administration has a way to add a certification of identity to the forum for those who would want one.

JoeyA
To help make this a better Forum ! However as you see unfortunately the folks that like to act out ! or in other words "your target audience" will never post their real names or even for the most part voluntarily participate in this exercise ! JMO! :( but it was worth the try !
Peace Phil / Mr Lucky :) :)

Will that be shaken or stirred ? :p and could you introduce me to Puzzy Galore ?

I had a bbs for cops before there was an internet. Because I am a “real” professor retired from Youngstown State University, my university web site with all details including resume and family details were on the net for years. Listing on the Internet is like listing in a telephone book and there is no reason not to be publicly identified unless the person has something to hide. I like to see photos of people who post as I feel I get to know them better. Not many do so you have to live with the need for anonymity.

I think that JoeA has a great idea that it should be net wide. No real name – no credibility. This makes perfect sense to me and is one of the better ideas I have heard in a long while. I think that when you use your real name and photo you are more thoughtful in your posts. The research strongly supports the notion that people are more vicious when they are anonymous.

I did have a slight problem a few years ago with a person using my name and credentials to advertise off shore prescription drugs but it was easily solved. So with over 30 years on the net I have not had any real problems using my real identity.

;) and very well stated !!!!!

I can understand and respect posters who want to use screen names only... in most instances. But for the life of me I can't understand why some cuemakers on here don't want their identities known. Some of 'em post answers to EVERY post about cue building, yet they don't want anybody to know who they are. I don't get that.

Not much imagination here...but at the pool hall they call me "Razor" for my uncanny ability to make long, razor-thin cutshots. :p
