I love perusing ebay and any wanted / forsale section and I am always in awe of the ideas and theories used in selling. I am not talking about the flat out lies like when someone says unplayed and the shafts are as blue as a priests balls at an alterboy convention, I mean the ingenious wording type ads..

"Don't see many of xxx cues for sale".. when maybe the guy has 15-20 cues out in public or he just opened his shop doors.

The ever loving "hits just like a xxx cue". Love those comparisons adds. Especially when the cue is from joeblow and its compared to a Szamboti or South West.

On ebay a while ago I noticed a cue used to beat Minnesota Fats in an exhibition. And the cue was a total junker. Now c'mon, can you do better than that?

Of course the new Balabushka cues when people try to sneak the originality or origin of those cues by. I don't mind the cues, just the sellling tactics.

Any others????

"A LOT OF BANG FOR THE BUCK" and the cue is priced at 5000 bucks!

"HITS LIKE A FREIGHT TRAIN"

"SOUTHWEST QUALITY AT A FRACTION OF THE PRICE"

The top one is probably my favorite. :)

Personally, I usually get a real laugh at the hype, and, if I am interested in the cue, I try to read through it and see if I can figure what the cue REALLY is. Some of those folks sound like used car salesmen (no offense intended).

One reason I bought my Schon was because I kept seeing people claim that such and such cue "hit like a Schon." Rather than buy something that his like a Schon, I just bought a Schon. It definitely hits like a Schon.

That to me is great"
Every Schon I have tried plays like a Schon.
I used to laugh at the emails i would get from Chuck @ the Billiard Museum??
or was it the Cue Museum???? ANyway, that guy always "had" Every famous cue made for every famous player, Although I personally never saw one:p

"It's the best hitting cue I've ever played with............the only reason I'm selling it is because I'm trying to thin out my collection."
First of all, I would never dump my "best hitting cue." And, if I had a collection that needed to be thinned, the first cues to go would be the ones I consider most expendable.
I know there are exceptions, and some folks need to sell to generate cash in some circumstances. But selling your best hitting cue, while admitting you still have others? Why not sell the others first?

i dont think i have ever seen this kind of sales pitch on az. i have often seen people regret after selling a cue, but never saying this is the best hitting cue i have ever played with while trying to pawn it off. im probably wrong though.

I have seen it more than once. I called someone on it, and he got nasty with me. All I said was that "if it hits that good, why would you sell it?"

I love many of the BS

The best hitting cue I have ever played with and I have played with many the only reason I am selling is I am buying another cue. Come on if it is the best why would I want to sell and by another that is unproven

Can draw the length the table. Don't mean it is a good cue.

Can run many racks with this one. Only if you have the skill.

Number xxx which means that it is the xxx cue made that year. BIg deal.

I talked to Laurie. So what.

Hits a ton. Whatever that means.

A collectable. Everything is a collectable but it doesn't mean it is worth anything.

So and so is getting older. Aren't we all?

One of a kind. Every cue is one of a kind, no other cue will ever have the same characteristics.

HEY!!!!!

I might be interested in that truck!!!!

GOT ANY PICS? :D :D :D

i believe all these freight train and truck analogies refer to a solid hit. i really dont mind them and any other sales pitch for that matter. we are all trying to extract the most value out of any cue we choose to sell so i am all for the hype.

misleading information reguarding a sale is a whole different matter, like the $195.00 scam in the main section.

... Chuck ... Cue Museum ...

LOL!!!

I haven't heard anything about this guy in years. His "museum" was supposedly in Fitchburg, MA. He was literally POUNDING his supposed knowledge of Szamboti, Balmer, Balabushka, Rambow and, especially, Paradise all over the various billiard discussion forums -- UNTIL:

Quite coincidentally, in May 2001, I made a 3-week trip from Oak Harbor, WA, to Fitchburg, ostensibly to help a Collier cousin with the production of the official print edition of our family genealogy. I also had another family (the Forests) to which I was related (through my grandmother) living in Fitchburg at that time, and did a great deal of genealogical background research on them, also.

Directly before I made this trip, I tried everything imaginable to arrange a meeting with this person and the one or two others who were associated with him -- all I wanted was to be able to see all of these historic cues they said they had and, possibly, if conditions were right, make a purchase while I was there.

ABRA CADABRA -- POOF!!! At that time, the "Cue Musem" and all vestiges thereof simply disappeared from the venerated annals of mankind, never to be heard from again! While I was in Fitchburg, I could find no proof that they had ever existed!

It was still a great trip, though -- met Cornerman while I was there and had a good evening at Shooter's in Gardner!

I'd be happy to see an ad say.. "sharpied to cover blems".. or "unplayed.. at least by me"... "thats not a crack on the ferrule, its the hair of a table brush"... :D

JV (---sharpies should only be used for autographs

On AZ, it's people who hype up the cue before they get it, then post great threads about the cue and maybe even a thread in Cue Gallery and two weeks later, they are for sale.
