Send Mike Wong to Derby City

Hi AZBilliards friends,

As everyone knows the Derby City Classic is coming up. I’d like to join the event, but this is one of the most costly events to attend. Is anyone interested in sponsoring me for this event? I am planning to play all three events: Banks, One-pocket, and Nine-ball.

With that being said. I work hard on my game, and I believe I play at a respectable level. I always play hard and I don’t let up. I consider myself to be a respectful, and standup person. I have won over 10 Mezz Pro-Am stops, and have cashed in major events such as the U.S. Open. For anyone interested, there is finals match on Youtube between Jayson Shaw and myself during the Predator Tour.

If anyone or any company is interested sponsoring a “horse” for DCC, I’m your guy. I can help promote and advertise your product in person and online. I will do my best to represent your company or product and get as many people involved and interested as possible. I will send you photos from the event with the company logo displayed. I can also offer lessons or exhibitions if wanted.

Please feel free to get in touch with me.

Thank you,

Michael Wong

And in return they get what exactly?

If you're looking for sponsors why not explain what you can do FOR THEM?

Well, I can say that he worked very hard for Magic Chalk at the US Open. He passed out free chalk to some select US Pro's and amateurs. He wore a Magic Chalk patch to promote the brand. He spoke highly of the product on-line in various forums, including AZB and Facebook.

He told folks how to contact me to order, or they could go right to Seyberts who now sell Magic Chalk for me as well. He sent me lots of photos of him at the US Open which I sent over to MC HQ's, and they loved that Magic Chalk was at the US Open.

He kept me in the loop at all times. And without even asking him he wore his shirt with my logo at a few other tournaments before the US Open.

So, I had not one complaint, and I really believed Mike went out of his way to promote the brand and behave in "pro" manner !!

Overall, a great guy to do business with and a good dude to help promote pool and/or your product.

I might be going to DCC next year myself, but if I don't, I will be sponsoring Mike again.

Thanks Mike.

Good to hear RJ. I really wasn't trying to be a jerk I just don't quite understand why players don't go all out when looking for sponsors. They shouldn't just be looking for a handout but instead they should sell themselves and explain what a sponsor can get out of the deal.

Good Point

Hard to argue with his point. Contacting sponsors directly makes sense.

There are so many causes that I'd personally support before sending a pool player to a tournament but that's just me.

If Mike can get others to fund his passion, all the power to him. Good luck on your road to the DCC.

It is an expensive trip, one that I personally budget and save up for so that I can attend each year. It's not easy but it's how I personally support my hobbies. Work and save. YMMV

Peace!

No worries, I didn't take it as a negative. Just wanted to explain that's it's not just a hand out. I did expect something in return and got it. I'm nice, but not that nice ;)

I never understood people who come here asking for handouts??

If I want to do something, I save money and I do it...

If your "hobby" doesn't pay for itself, then perhaps you need a better job to support your "hobby"..

Nothing against the OP personally, but I could never ask people for money to do the things I want to do.. I just work harder until I achieve what I want.

I agree, unless the player is going to give you a return on your investment, which wouldn't be sponsorship, but a stake.

Every NASCAR team looks $5,000,000.00 minimum each and every year. I suppose the sponsor gets something in return but they need to decide the dollar value on their return.
