Send Mike Wong to the U.S. Open

Hello all, thank you for the birthday wishes.
As requested I am doing the breakdown for expenses. So everyone can see clearly where the funds are going to.

October 24-30 Dates (Players meeting begins October 24th)
US Open Entry $1000
Sheraton Hotel ($89.00 a day plus tax) 100 x 7 = $700
Gas and Toll from NYC to Chesapeake Virginia (estimation would be 3 full needed) $60 per full tank = $180 + Estimated Tolls ($80) = $260
Food for 7 days estimated at $40 a day = $280

$1000 + $700 + $ 260 + $280 = $2240
If I have a roommate or someone to travel with to split hotel and gas, the breakdown would be $1000 + $350 + $130 + $280 = $1760

GoFundMe will take 7.6% of all funds therefore they are taking away $133.76, therefore I would now have to raise $1900 to reach my original goal of $1760.
I hope this is okay, and clear enough. I will look into starting a GoFundMe account.
Thank You. God Bless.

Mike, make sure you address the previous posters suggestions and show that if your goal is not reached then the money is refunded.
Also, state how much you are bringing to the table as others have noted, that will help get the ball rolling and show you have skin in the game.

There have been some really good suggestions and comments here and to address each of them would be wise.

Good luck.

You want something for nothing. Not how it works. Earn it.
Offer lessons to anyone who contributes. i.e....$20 an hour for lessons, minimum $100
That person gets 5 hours from you. 20 people and you have $2000.00 and you give back
with your knowledge. If you come in the money people will talk about how they are getting lessons from a pro who did well at the US Open. You can always get a styrofoam coffee cup and stand on the corner and panhandle spare change...

Not trying to be a hard ass on someone I never heard of, just think you should earn it.

I could be wrong
But I don't think he was asking for something for nothing .
If people put money up for him they get their money back first
Then they split any profit.

I think he was splitting the 2 groups of donors. I don't want anything back for my 20, but Wong PM where to donate as I will not follow this thread.

Hi Clearly, I know we had our differences, but thank you for that comment.

Hi Cezar Morales, I can see your point. However, I am not looking to play one tournament a year. The U.S. Open is only one tournament, I am looking to get out a compete as much as I can afford to. Think about the cost of traveling to the U.S. Open, Derby City, Las Vegas, Reno, Turning Stone. Don't forget the local tournaments, and the cost of traveling abroad if I chose to do so. It can get expensive really fast, which is the reason I haven't traveled much recently.

Hi Cardigan Kid, I just setup a GoFundMe account, with an offline donation of $500, as it is against company policy to donate online to your own account. Regarding donation refunds, the customer representative informed me that I have 90 days to make a refund after the donation was made. If I don't believe I collected enough funds to attend the tournament, I will refund everyone their donations.

Hi Non Smoker, I have no problems giving lessons to anyone that has chosen support me, and will gladly do so.

Hi Bartram, I was thinking about this situation today. I have a few people that may be interested in flat out sponsoring me, so I'll wear their company shirt or patch, or try to endorse their product as best as to my abilities, or help them if there is something I can do for them. As far as people who want to stake me. They can stake me for my entry fee. If I break even, I will return the money to all stakers. If I make money, I will split it with the stakers. For example, the entry is $1000, if someone stakes me for $500, it is 50%. If I make $2000, they will get $1000. I will make a list of sponsors and stakers and their amount(if they want to be named), so there is no confusion.

If you want to sponsor me, I'm really interested to do something with you or your company. If you want to stake me, I'm also grateful for that. As requested by AZBilliard members, I created a GoFundMe Account.

You are a good man. Good luck Mr. Wong. I will donate $20. I live in NYC, how many minutes of a lesson will that buy me?

My God. They kid is looking for a group stake horse. Nothing more. Stake Horses have been around since the first player went bust.

Don't crucify the guy. Especially if you're not in on the action.

I hope you get staked and knock em dead at the Open.

Donation is in, Mike.
Well done, and I wish you all the best of luck.

I look forward to following you throughout the tournament.

I get people needing a little help from time to time. But this dude says times are tough and wants people to pay for him to play pool. I've helped out two different people on here. Never heard back from one of them after I sent the money, and the other promised to send me a copy of his book for my help...never heard from him again either. Count me out.

You still have one of the best avatar pics on here ; )

pt109....sending $50 tues or wed....using company account.

Don't need no money back....but a nice report on AZ would be nice...
.....pics or it didn't happen!

wonder how different between you in 2012 and now?
you have balls to post this thread so I bet you won't mind any critics.
I youtubed your name and found 2 videos back in 2012, gave them a quick watch and here is my thoughts: boring and slow like... hell, terrible form of playing, chalking and walking, wearing a headset and changing music in the middle of a shot, not in a good shape (being an Asian), guessing a lot of shots, I watched the first 25 mins of the match you played against Earl and didn't see you even trying to POT a ball, no wonder why Earl missed a ball and there are 3-4 balls left on the table he just resign the game immediately (TWICE) because he didnt want to wait 15 mins to see you clear 3 balls and he knows he can still win the match. I'd rather pay you $1000 for NOT playing in U.S open to not have to see you playing...

Anyways that was you in 2012.

I dont care how but this is 2015, can you show us a video of you playing right now?

Great first post to lose your AzB virginity.

I will not be participating but I did see a potential problem re: those that may want to stake you (hope you don't mind). The example you provided that I made red and bold indicates that if someone stakes you for $500, they would have 50% of your return, however, you are asking to raise over $1900. So does this mean you have the potential of having up to 4 backers at 50% each (200%)?

I think this may need clarification from you before it gets out of hand using different examples.

Good luck to you.

Dave

Your idea of cashing and mind are different. Pretty sure no profit was made in any do those years. I know the guy and know he is not a bad player but definitely below what it would take to make a serious cash.

I've talked with Mike and he agrees that he should earn it.

So, for Non Smoker only he gets 168 hours of continuous lessons for his gracious $20. You will need to take all these lessons at one time, and there are no breaks. For $30 he will add a week long stay at the Hyatt Regency or the Waldorf Astoria, whichever you prefer.

P.S. Didn't really speak to Mike

Hi Kris_b1104, I will give you a free lesson. Come to Steinway Billiards and I will set aside some time to work with you. Make note of the areas you want to work on, ex. position play, shot selection, kicking, etc... All I ask is that you post a honest review of the lesson, and whether you think it will benefit or improve your game. Send me a private message and I will give you my contact information.

Hi Ryan, thank you for your support. Please let me know if you choose to be a sponsor or staker, so I can appropriate the funds correctly. Thank You.

Hi pt109, thank you for choosing to sponsor me. I will try my best to send some updates, and pictures. However, I do want to make sure that my focus is on the tournament. Thank you.

Hi July9x, I sent a message to Upstate AL asking him to post the video of myself and Jayson Shaw in the finals. Hopefully he will be able to do it sometime soon. It might help if other AZB members told him they were interested in seeing it also.

Hi AtLarge, I cannot be sure if your estimation is accurate or not. Maybe someone else can chime in.

Hi Dave, I will be taking funds from stakers up to $1,000. After $1,000 the window is closed for stakers. However, I will still accept funds from sponsors.

Thank You,

Mike
