Send Mike Wong to the U.S. Open

Serious question to Mike, not trying to bash but trying to understand your plea. Tell me if I have this correct.

You are looking at 100% of your trip to be donated by other players? I just breezed through the thread but it looks like you are hoping to get a complimentary trip out of this with no risk.

If you cash, are you giving the donators their money back if you make enough or are you keeping all of the prize money?

Just curious if you are asking for a donation or a spot with a potential to at least give the charitable their money back?

You obviously have a strong game, I see it's not easy to cash in the US Open.

Those that are staking his $1000 entry fee get their money off the top. If there's any profit, above and beyond, that money is split 50/50. If the cash won is say for $1000 or less, Mike makes nothing. He's also trying to raise money for his travel/expenses. Those folks are really just donating with no expectation or desire for any return on the money. I expect that if the other 127 players simultaneously self combust, and Mike manages to "win", it would be proper etiquette to extend a share to all those that helped with those expenses, too. The third party is for those that might give money with an expectation of receiving monetary value in return, instead. This could mean sponsors who may want the exposure of a player wearing a company patch/logo on his clothing or equipment during tournament play or could be those who might not want money but could receive lessons, instead.

This guy said he would play me some even one pocket even here on this forum, two months later when I moved to ohio (closer to philly) I asked him to play in his home pool room. He sounded real gung ho here (on line) but after consulting his buddies he said he needed 10-7 on the phone. I needled him a bit for his change of heart - as he was really typing hot and heavy here on the forum. He said he would have someone come to cleveland and break my arms - not to worry Mike this guy is all talk and no game. Just a gardner snake pretending to be a black mamba. And if you read this "philly worm" your buddies were right you do need 10-7.

Wow back from the dead and running that mouse trap again. Lol stay broke buddy. And if you wanna give me that 10-7 I'm here.

Hi Danny Harriman, thanks for you input. I hope I get to watch your dvd soon. ;)

Hi Vinny, if you are reading this. I got a phone call and someone is really interested in staking me to play you, with a neutral racker or possibly letting you rack for both of us. Do you want to come to NYC?

Hi actionplayer, the rules of the tournament are that you are allowed to rack the 1-ball, a ball above or below the spot. I racked a little below the spot. The referee was unsure about the rule, and needed to call Tony Robles to confirm the rule. Thank you for your input.

Hi all bashers, I understand that this is the internet, and everyone is free to speak as they like. I understand that I am not a fast player and there are some that don't like my style of play, and that's okay. However, I find it disrespectful that people post on this thread with the sole intention of just bashing me. Please do it somewhere else, create your own thread to bash me, just don't do it here. Saying something negative about me to hurt my chances of getting support, I feel shows little class. It is not something I would do someone else, even if I disliked them.

To sponsors and stakers, thank you for showing your support. The following AZB members have decided to sponsor me so far:

Cardigan Kid $50
Lonestar_Jim $20
Anonymous friend from Philippines $200

Hi mike Wong. No I don't wanna come to nyc to play you , but yes I will play you if you come to my pool room and play. Also just for the record I am aware that the phone call you got was from Russian Kenny and if the money is posted you got action. All you gotta do is come to me. I don't travel for pool it's not that serious to me plus I don't need the money like you do. I stake myself every time I play.

Hi Vinny, I'm pretty sure you barked at me. So... I'm going to give you the game you asked for, just come to Steinway Billiards and you'll get played. Unless of course, you had a change of heart... just like what Danny Harriman said...?
By the way, there were few people that were very interested in the game and getting behind me, you might get yourself a decent bet sir!

At one time, did you back a project with Charlie Williams with no expectation of a return? I seem to recall this.

Here's a kid (Mike Wong) from New York, your neck of the woods, trying to get to the Open. Instead of encouragment on this thread, he's getting hit with some bunk from the peanut gallery. You'd think there'd be a little loyalty from New Yorkers, but maybe that's just not done in Yankee Country. Down South, we root for the home team and support our own, even if it's just words.

I do like living below the Mason-Dixon line. People seem to be respectful of each other before they fire verbal bullets.

Also ... guys have popped up from outta nowhere to win the US Open before. Of course, it's a long shot - but history has shown that if its your week - you can win. Just ask TK. He was unranked - unseeded - and at the end of the week - he was undefeated.

When you get there, Mike - kick some ass!

:D

Well, being a Washington Nationals and Baltimore Orioles fan, I have my reasons. :)

I have many friends from the Big Apple, but the New Yorkers who post on this forum are not them.

So where does Michael Wong fall - friend or foe?

And I was gonna donate until the 'God Bless' started showing up in the signature of Wong's posts. Like donating to a pool player is the Christian thing to do. Nice angle shooting there.

Finally, those that are saying it took guts for him to post here? Seriously - ok I'll show more guts. I need $17,000. That's 10 times what Wong is asking for. Call me a hero.

Mike, if you downgraded your ebony on ebony Southwest to one with Pau Ferro, you'd have the cash twice over...

Hi JAM, people in NYC can be really brutal...

Hi Ideologist, the thought of selling my cue did dance around in my head a few times. However, it was Ginky's cue, and we were really good friends. So, that cue carries a lot of sentimental value. I made the mistake of selling a irreplaceable great playing cue before, I learned my lesson. I been playing with this cue the last 4-5 years. Thanks for your suggestion.

Mike Wong is a player and a gentleman hands down.

Good in my book, always will be.

Brother put in MAD:angry: work and time to get to his current playing status.

If my $$$$ was right, I'd BLINDLY slide him a C-note for his cause!!!!!!

Wutang

I'm really enjoying those that have no interest in staking the kid, doing their best to keep other folks from staking him.

It's really none of anyone's business but the player and his backers.

Maybe I'm trying to equate common logic to the posts of keyboard cowboys, which makes me the idiot.

Keep it up though. It's free entertainment.
