Seperated Ribs. Anyone had them...........

I'll tell you what Ed,
If your diabetic I've found that you need to talk to people that are diabetic and are successfully taking care of it. I messed around talking to people that are taught to help people with diabetes but where I found out the best info is from people that are diabetic.
.

Sorry but...no good. Other peoples health conditions have nothing to do with yours. Diabetes is serious shit. Real serious. I'll take my chances with a Dr.....and a diabetic nutritionist.

Hi there,
Anyone that is diabetic needs to go to these forums and they will get the correct info on how to take care of diabetes. i struggled for about 2 years now trying to control it with pills and diet that the doctors and nutritionists said I could eat.

I was always sick and didn't feel good. The people on the forums were not surprised with my non success. I found all the answers from people that are diabetic.

The nutritioniist that held the class teaching us how to eat at the clinic didn't even know what Stevia was?

Tald us we could drink diet sodas with all those nasty aditives.

I know now it was almost like a joke.

If they were diabetic the misinformation would sure get fixed because they themselve would get sick from it. As it is they are just teaching what was told.

Right now after 2 months of really sticking to diadetes forum info I'm off the pills and feeling pretty good except for my getting squished pain. The meds were making me sick to my stomach.

It worked for me. Especially for diabetics, they need to check out these forums. Good info there........................

What a bunch of bushwackers.
I like mine and put my trust in them. We have be selective and careful. Doctors bury their mistakes. Anyway, hope you start to feel better soon.

I just hope that some of these players that are helping me here will take advantage of my free offer to learn Perfect Aim with just a phone call.

Another way to Perfect Aim? Thought you were looking for medical advice about your "Separated Ribs. Anyone had them...........". Still think you need professional help from like an MD, DO, or PA with some orthopedic Expertise~ JMHO.

Gene if you are a Honorably Discharged Veteran, maybe the VA will take care of your Separated Ribs for a few bucks co pay.

I didn't read every post in this thread but here's a big tip if nobody mentioned it......When you feel a cough or sneeze coming on blow all the air in your lungs out and then cough or sneeze. Part of what makes it hurt so bad is the immediate hard convulsion of your chest. Exhaling will cut down on that considerably. Its still going to hurt but it'll be 25% of the pain. Hope this helps!

Good Info....

I havn't sneezed for awhile. Once this morning. I really hurts. I will do everything I can do to not sneeze.

I will definitely deflate my lungs
Thanks. I hope i don't have to try out your method:eek:

I too sometimes find it somewhat painful to cough or sneeze, kinda like saying the pope is a catholic. I'll definitely try to remember your advice!

Good news/bad news

Hi Geno-

Like most-I'm not a doc-just somebody who too has had rib injury.(Hoping # 4 is the last time)

Sorry to hear about the motorhome squish.

Basically you are screwed-for a while.

It's been a while-but I can recall the nasty pain that goes with it. I think I hated most the oncoming sneeze pain-because you knew it was coming and there was little you could do about it. Like hitting your testicles with a ballpeen hammer-just higher up. I remember trying to hold my sides in with my elbows and to keep the sneeze from happening. But-then would come the inevitable quick inhalation just before the sneeze...Oh no, oh no...Ooooww!!, then the actual sneeze..Auuuuuuuuuuuughhhhhh!.. accompanied by a bent over sobbing while you spin in place a couple of times as the tears well up in your eyes. Sneezes, for me , come in threes. It's a *****.

I have gone the McGiver route of duct taping the lower ribs(that where mine have been squished) on top of an old T-shirt. (But not too tight)

As you well know-it hurts like hell. Just about everything you do hurts them-(like breathing)

Just know-it will get better. You will get through this-everyday is progress-although that can be hard to believe when you are hurting badly.

btw-do you have a 'silly putty' like bulge under the skin between any of the ribs?(displaced cartilage? I don't really know, and the VA said-dont worry about it} If so, I think it's nature's way of reminding us not to repeat certain things. Sort of a souvenir.

I still think you are one of the luckiest guys on this forum. Alive to tell the tale, and feel the pain.

Take care buddy

Yeah I warned ya Geno, rib injuries suck tremendously and the only thing that really lessens the pain is drugs and alot of time. 4 weeks after I injured my lower left rib in a pretty bad fall it still hurt 90% as much as day 2. Week 5 it dropped to 70% and it was week 7 or so before the area simply felt "tender". It was probably 8-10 months before the area felt totally normal, they did not hurt after 3 months, but they felt odd.

One thing I did was took glucosamine and calcium suppliments and I drank a couple whey protein shakes a day simply to OD my body on what it needed to do the healing. Did it help? Not sure, but it won't hurt.

Otherwise? Try not to move, try not to cough, god forbid you have to sneeze, and as much as it hurts once an hour make sure to take 10 DEEP breaths because you want to make sure to fully inflate your lungs and rib injuries tend to make you breath very shallowly because it hurts to do anything else.

Keep them wrapped snug not tight, an Ace Bandage will work pretty well, this will limit the movement until you get some relief from healing. I have broken my ribs and this is what the doctor or I should say the medic had me do. It was during a training exercise when I was on Active Duty in the Army, so Pain Medication was out of the question and I was considered to important to send to the rear!!! so I had to stick it out.

Wrapping your chest area will help especially when laying down, because it will stop movement of the bruised area. Just don't wrap yourself so tight that you cut off circulation, in most cases if you don't feel a pulse or throbbing the area is not wrapped to tight, however, if you start to feel throbbing or a pulse loosen the wrapping a little.

Not much else you can do until you heal, sorry to hear about your accident and I hope you feel better soon.!!

Take care

Ice, ICE and did I say ice? Ibuprofen will help as well, also as im on morphine and supplement with perc. as well, the dr at the VA actualy gave me a card to a MMJ Dr. as they cant do it as VA is federal. I havent taken them up on it but alot of people have told me i should as it would help with the pain. Not sure if your in a state that is MMJ legal or even if you would but relaying info i have received.

Get better soon, and on another note I should have a testimonial for you in a week or so, Thanks for the time over the phone :)
