I don't have one yet - but I've heard great things about the Mezz shafts.

personally I struggled using a LD shaft for about a year in a half .
When I switched back to a solid maple shaft, I was thinking why did I ever buy a LD to begin with .
It was nothing but a head ache .

I must admit for the record, being a person that grew up shooting with normal maple shafts, it seems to me that it would be easier for most to go from an LD shaft to a maple shaft rather than the other way around. When I practice, I toss a Z2 with an 11.75 mm granite pebble glued to it on a very light cue, and just suffer the horror of trying to control such a beast. When I am shooting for blood, I use a heavier cue with a nice fat maple 13 mm and a softer tip.
If I haven't shot with the Z shaft in a while, its less than gratifying. But instructive.... evidently, my stroke has a half life to be measured in days. So I gottta tune it up from time to time.

I too grew up using LD shafts. I'm just not as consistent using regular maple shafts no mater who the maker is :-( Buy a partial LD shaft of your choice, get someone to do the matching ring work, and bag the LD Shaft label, and be happy ;-)

Personally, I do. I do not prefer modern "engineered" LD.
But then, I ride old Harleys as well. Generally what I say about that is: "If I have to explain it, you'll never understand."

I bought a nice Cognoscenti cue last year and spent 4 months trying to learn how to play with a maple Shaft again. I'd been playing with a Katana LD shaft for 4 years prior to that.
The disappointment of not being able to make balls on a 9 ft. with sidespin regardless of how much I tried to compensate for the squirt was unbearable. I went down 2 balls in playing ability.. Switching back to the LD shaft after spending that kinda cash for a cue may sound stupid, but I regained my confidence and ball pocketing ability in less than a week.
Play with what you play best with and forget about everything else I guess.

Prob not, if you are accustomed to LD shafts, it will be a real wake up call. Playing with a bar cue (when out of town), I try not to use any English, and if I can't get there, just have to take the longer shot. I don't want to change my game and start doing things diff with a diff shaft.

The shafts on my Scruggs are original and I am telling you the hit of the cue, the sound, the feel
of the cue in your finger pads is great.My cue's shafts deliver the cue ball with a pleasing effect.,
As far as LD shafts, play whatever you like and prefer but original Scruggs shafts, presuming the
shafts are indeed original, should not be an issue and adjustment should be relatively easy to do.

Same story for me, but the other way around.

I know the post is old but this is like asking us if you are going to like lobster or a ribeye steak better. How the hell would we know what you are going to like when it is nothing but personal preference?
I will say this though. If you have played with either LD or regular shafts your whole life, and then switch over to the other, you are going to have to give it a long period of time to "relearn" things and get used to it before you are going to know for sure which you actually prefer and play better with. Some people adapt more quickly than others and may know sooner but figure on lots of hours spread out over several months before you are going to know with any certainty.

I keep thinking about the not to distant past when great pool was shot by great players using "normal Maple" shafts. The list of those very good players is long.
Now we have a new super duper LD shaft every few months. No shaft is a substitute for hard work and long hours of good practice developing good habits. If a shaft helps one shoot better then I say, use it.
What shaft does VanBoening, Shaw, Orcollo, Big Ko, Chang, Alex P. etc. and other great players use? Which ever one they shoot best with and they can probably adjust to any shaft in short order if a company pays them enough.
I use Diveney Lake Salvage shafts with a short ferrule. Are they the best shaft, well heck ya, that is why I use them. Well, they are the best for me any way.
I think a lot of the shaft hype is like new fishing lures, designed to catch pool players and fisherman.
