Shane van Boening with a 11-pack in the final of Thailand Open, winning 15-14

Actually it wasn't Shane, but youthplayer Pin Yi Ko from Taiwan who did it in the final of the Thailand 9-ball Open. He was down 14-4 and then made a 11-pack on Dennis Orcullo to win the match, the tournament + a spot in the World Pool Masters in Las Vegas in May.

There is already a thread about this, but people doesn't seem to be interested when a young taiwanese kid is putting up a 11-pack against one of the best players in the world, in one of the biggest open tournaments in Asia...

The article from AZ Billiards:

Orcollo falls to Ko in Thailand Finals

Dennis Orcollo swept his way to finals and reached the hill first in the title-match, but failed to get over it as he helplessly watched Taiwanese Pin Yi Ko racked up 11 consecutive racks to score a 15-14 squeaker, snatch the crown and leave him settling for the runner-up honor in the Brunswick-Thailand 9-Ball Open late Sunday in Bangkok.

It was a very sorry loss for Orcollo, who wanted no less than a win in his first international foray this year to put a stamp on his tag as the reigning world no.1. But as fate would have it, he ran into Ko, an 18-year-old sensation, who many consider as the best 9-ball player in the world today.

After making it 14-4 in his favor, Orcollo never had a chance to return to the table after surrendering it to Ko, as the Taiwanese ran out one rack after another until completing the huge come-from-behind victory.

?Magaling talaga ?yang Ko Pin Yi na ?yan,? said Perry Mariano, Orcollo?s manager and head of the Bugsy Promotions, noting that Ko was the same player who trounced Roberto Gomez in the finals of the Taiwan Super Cup last December.

?Dennis is one of the best ? if not the best ? players in the Philippines today. So him losing to an 18-year-old Taiwanese, who also beat Gomez, our World Pool runner-up, should sound an alarm to us Filipinos,? added Mariano.

?I hope this serves as a wake up call to all billiards officials, whose priority is focused only on money-making professional events. Kumilos na kayo bago mahuli ang lahat.?

Besides the title, the loss also denied Orcollo the champion purse worth 150,000 baht (P200,000). He will instead go home with the second prize of 50,000 baht.

Orcollo made it to the finals by beating compatriot Victor Arpilleda in the quarterfinals and Indonesian Jimmy Jusman in the semis. Ko, on the other hand, defeated Gomez and Indonesian Robby Suarly, respectively.

Like Arpilleda and Gomez, former double world champion Ronnie Alcano also reached the tournament?s Last 8 before bowing out with a loss to Jusman.

A total of 128 players, including those from Singapore, England, Malaysia, Hong Kong and the host country, competed in this four-day annual event.

This may not be entirely accurate. I have heard that Dennis may have had a few turns at the table, failing to get out. Ko Pin-Yi did win eleven games in a row. He just didn't run eleven racks.

People will read the Threads They want to read, You shouldn't use a popular Players name to sell a Thread that You want People to read.

Archer ran 13 on Bustamente years ago and Niels Feijen supposedly ran 15, but I would still guess that the kid didn't break and run 11 racks.

People get that mixed up all the time.

Of course getting 11 wins in a row against Dennis Orcullo is an incredible feat in itself, but running 11 racks is something totally different. If dennis got to the table on any of those racks, that package count stops whether Dennis won the rack or not.

Packs are how many consecutive racks you run/get out of with your opponent not having a turn.

Regardless, 11 wins in a row against Orcullo is a feat.

I'm still stuck on why you put shanes name in there... even if Pin Yi Ko didnt run 11 in a row.. he won 11 in a row.. does he not deserve his own name in the thread title?

Female Hollywood movie star HOME SEX TAPE here!!!

...Ok, so it wasn't a sex tape. Or a movie star. It was a kid in Thailand beating another guy in 11 straight games of pool. :o

Was Shane even in Thailand when this happened?!?!   Throwing his name in your thread title was the strangest thing I've seen in a while.

Because Roy has been on a noble crusade to show other people deserve attention other than SVB... *shrug*

It was simply a grossly misleading (false) headline...

If the OP were a journalist and he did that when writing a headline on something important, it could well be "hasta la vista, baby..."

I think it's brilliant to have a title that has nothing to do with the post. Might I add, I'm miffed that the Starbucks downstairs has no half-n-half today.

Just don't try and go there after work today...

I live in Thailand part of the year and I'm part of the pool scene there. They don't undestand the difference in terminology between "running 11 in a row" and "winning 11 in a row." The Brits brought the English language and Snooker to Thailand, so they use English Snooker slang to describe American Pool.

The "eleven pack" concept was "lost in translation."

Wait I am confused, I was curious how I could have been watching Shane play a bar table nine ball tournament in Olathe Kansas and he could run an 11-pack in Thailand at the same time. Man I did not know that he was that good, Shane is truly the best if he can win on two separate continents as the same time. No wonder we all worship his game.

Not against Dennis Orcullo
That does add something to the eleven games. Its would be easier to beat Dennis eleven games breaking and running rather than ducking I promise.

Once again congrats are in order for SVB. I wasn't even aware that he had played in this tournament.

Oh okay. It wasn't Earl. It was me.

Hopefully someone will teach some of those bastages wtf "macchiato" means when they close down for 3 hours today for training. I always order either a "solo or doppio (single or double, respectively) macchiato". Even though that is how it would appear on their menu, I'm getting the wrong thing about 30% of the time; maybe a little more. I finally started just ordering a "single (or double) espresso with foam".
