Shane vs. Fedor

Yeah, but it will probably be the youngest man who wins. 120 is a freaking marathon.
I could argue either side on that point.

Shane has probably played 20 times as many of these marathon matches as Fedor, so the cadence and psychological pacing should be second nature to him by now. Marathon matches are still a relatively new thing for Gorst.

On the other hand, look what happened at the 2023 Derby City 9ball. A huge backup in the schedule led to a day in which both Shane and Fedor would have to play pool for 25 hours (with some in-between match breaks), ultimately meeting in the final that began at about 8:00 AM on the day after the event was scheduled to end. Fedor had far more gas left in the tank when they reached the final, and youth was served when he won the final comfortably.

Kaci ran 8 on the Lion.
Yes, in a tournament (as already mentioned) at Freezer's Ice House in 2018. But he ended up in 9th/12th place in that event. The 8-pack might have done him more good in a long challenge match!

Stu, not sure if I missed a post of if you aren't on the record. Who do you like in this match?

I've given this quite a bit of thought and have really struggled. I think I have a lean finally but it is not only a close match but I do believe it is one both could win. But if you were a betting man, which horse would you take?

On 4" pockets, I'd love Fedor, for his edge in defense/kicking/jumping would be more important. Shane has a clear edge in that he's used to these marathons, but I'm not sure I agree with those who suggest that Shane has the better break of the two at 10ball. I think the break will be about even and Fedor should produce at least as many packages as Shane.

I'll pick Fedor, but if Shane brings his "A" game, it will be close.

He's not that but he is past his prime.

Gorst? He's been inconsistent so there is that.

I look at it as "passing of the torch" match. If SVB lose then its over for him as a marque player. It's the Gorst generation.

People will watch this historical event. Gorst being the new face of American billiards and SVB riding off into the sunset. Or SVB wins and stays relevant for the time being.
Svb has another 15 years in him

Is anyone here attending the match? I’m considering it, but can’t find any answers about tickets still being available.

These types of matches are essentially a glorified exhibition or a marketing exercise designed to build hype/sell PPV. They’re not betting their own money and they get paid regardless of what happens so there is nothing on the line for either of them. Maybe bragging rights but I doubt they care too much about that as you can’t pay the rent or buy fancy Louis Vuitton belts with bragging rights.
Fedor is taking all bets.

I think either could and can win. It could be close, but it could also be a blowout. If so, I lean Fedor winning if a blowout. Even though I think Fedor may be the #1 player on the planet, in this format, I'm taking Shane if I'm forced to pick. I'm predicting it will be relatively close with either winning by less than 15 games.

Shane's a thoroughbred and especially with gambling, year after year after year, it's more or less the same thing. We have all these players from all over the world we think are going to beat him in these long race matches. His win ratio is incredible, especially in 10ball. If I were to guess, I would say, other than maybe tourneys that would be considered majors, he's more motivated for these than anything. I really don't even think the size of the bet matters as much as others think. I think he's more prideful than most and has a drive stronger than most to continue to prove he's the best. It doesn't even matter if he is or isn't, what matters is how he thinks and feels about it. I think when he has this kind of drive, that's where he practices like a madman and turns into a machine. How many times have we seen him play near perfect and have over 50% BNR stats in these long marathons?

The longer it goes, the longer the match, the more of a cyborg his opponent is, the more he consistently shows how to dig deep and figure out a way. What he did against Chang in one of his last marathons was spectacular, especially with how close it was. We all know Chang is a stone cold killer on the table with pretty much no one wanting to play him in 10ball. I think Shane was even the underdog in that as I'm assuming he'll be in this. Now that Shane's Defensive game is mostly on par with anyone else out there, I will continue to like Shane in these until someone takes him out in convincing fashion, which has pretty much never happened.

I’m considering getting the stream whether I attend or not. After purchase, do you have to watch it live? Also, does it go away after the match is over, or can one watch it at their own pace? Sorry if these are dumb questions, but I’ve never done this before.

Those aren't dumb questions, I have to work during much of the stream and I'd like to watch the replay also.

But these are 4.25''....
& Shane has a higher break gear than Fedor.

I do not believe that Shane has a higher break gear than Fedor on 4 1/4" equipment, but we shall see. People seem to forget that Fedor's 10-ball break is absolutely phenomenal.

A little off topic, but as i was reading this, i was trying to remember if Fedor had a "pool" nickname ? I dont think i have seen one for him.

I like Shane in this match, but it is close. Fedor is great, and he definitely grinds himself out of bad situations, but he also put himself in those bad situations. In a long race, i feel he could put himself behind once too many to catch back up to Shane.
