From the brands mentioned in cloth selection thread (Table Mechanics section) is there any type X-1 shouldn't be used on? I'm asking because it's hard for me to understand properly which cloth is worsted. So, 3030, Titan, Gorina, Milliken Pro?

The X1 could catch on the nap (napped cloth) and cause some damage. All Championship styles (other then 3030) such as Titan are napped. Consider the X1 was designed by Simonis for Simonis cloth. While it should work properly on other brands of worsted cloth those results are TBD.

I own this product and I run the poolvids.com website (on hiatus) - I will try to post a vid and report back. Like the others, I'm happy with the results. I do lug the vaccuum with me to clean the x-1 itself, and depending on the shape of the table I may keep cleaning. It is definitely picking up plenty of chalk. I try to use it once per month but should do so more often. My table is plenty dirty so it is a good time for a video. The cleaning technique is a bit subjective so i'd be interested in getting feedback on how I use it. I'll circle back with a vid.

thanks for explanation. I think it might have many more sales if the price was twice as low ;) Paying almost a hundred for a cloth brush is not common yet for sure.

My table gets used alot. I have a small shop vac with a brush attachment in the cabinet right next to my table.

Its amazing how much chalk dust is in the vac when I empty it.

I KNOW for a fact that it is taking up most if not all of the chalk dust.

I'll stick with this method!!

OK, I got the X-1 today. It's for real. It picked up a ton of chalk. Pricey but worth it in my opinion. Very easy to use and gets the job done quickly.

I'm wondering how long the bottom pad lasts? Anyone know?

What size is your table and how much time did it take to clean it?
 
I'm very surprised at the responses so far.

I have used the X-1 and found it quite inferior if you want a really clean table.

After using the X-1 on a table that hadn't been cleaned for a couple of weeks, you could tell it was basically spreading the chalk around. A damp cloth used after the X-1 brought up a huge amount of chalk. Definitely not an item that will "clean up" a dirty table if you take it along with you to the pool hall. While it does remove a fair bit of chalk, there is a LOT of chalk on your tables - more than can be handled by this device.

On my home table that is cleaned virtually every day; I have tried the X-1. It removes a bit of chalk; but the wet cloth afterward removes almost as much chalk whether you use the X-1 first or not. It does have a "brushing effect" on the cloth, so the table does look fairly nice after using it; but it leaves a TON of chalk on your table if it is the only thing you are using.

Sorry Simonis...I was given one and rarely use it. If you want a fairly clean bridge hand after 1 hour of play, the X-1 will not be satisfactory. JMO.

Thanks for the vid. Nice work.
It's probably safe to say the cloth should be somewhat clean before starting/going forward cleaning with the X1.
In other words, don't expect it to pull up 6 months of chalk in one swoop.
Regular use should produce positive results as mentioned by others.

And Tonmo, when your done with the X1, take 1 of those microfiber towels, get it wrung-out damp and wipe down your table.

I've a question about this. If you are going to wipe down the table with a damp cloth after the X-1, then where's the convenience? You need to brush the table after the damp cloth step (at least according to Simonis). So now it's a 3 step process: X1 / Damp cloth / brush.

The damp cloth wipedown is simply to bring some life back to the cloth color and it also helps minimize what you see
as fiber fibrillation (ball marks). Finish with the damp cloth by swiping head to foot. No brushing required.

Gotcha, Dartman. ;) That's a little different than what it says on the Simonis website so that's why I asked. They say that the damp cloth makes the fibers stand up so you want to give it a quick brushing afterward to smooth the cloth out.

Thanks. I clean about once per month. Should do more. My original video was 8 1/2 mins long, too much to bare, so I edited it down to about 3:30. I actually used it twice, and usually do. And, I do follow up with a damp fiber cloth, and as mentioned by someone here, it still picks up lots of chalk. I do like the Simonis product because it is easy to handle (easier than a loose cloth) and is reusable. But agree it is not magic. Still, after two or three rounds of simonis x-1 and a damp fiber cloth wipe down (and a quick ball polish and cue wipe down), you're in for a great night of pool. Worth the effort and the device is better / more efficient than brush or dirt devil (and I don't do stronger vaccuums out of concern of stretching the cloth - could be wrong but that's how I look at it).
