Sitcoms with Pool related episodes

I use to watch 90210 in high school ,(please dont tell anyone), but Dillan(Luke Perry) use to hustle at pool all the time. He was rich anyway, but always played for a few hundred at the local bar and usually ended up in a fight. Then he got laid by every girl on the show. I always envied that guy.

Didn't he accidentally stroke his cue between a girl's legs behind him one time? Without seeing her. Maybe it was another movie, it's kind of an obvious ploy for a TV show. I know I've goosed at least one person accidentally before.

Also, wasn't the Uncle Phil's cue named Lucille or something like that on Fresh Prince of Bellaire?

Slightly unrelated, I remember seeing TCOM when I was very young, before I was even interested in pool (amazing to think about). The thing I remember is him wanting to play Stocker and get into West Point with his video game reflexes. I kept trying to tell my Mom that she should let me play video games so I could be in the Army. ;-)

On Law and Order, Lenny Briscoe (played by the late Jerry "Nobody puts Baby in the corner" Orbach) beat up on other cops and the occasional seedy type in various episodes. Jerry Orbach was a decent player, apparently. I remember hearing somewhere that he played APA as a 6 (probably in one of the APA newsletters.)

Also not a sitcom, but there was an episode of Quantum Leap (Scott Bakula, Dean Stockwell) involving pool. The only reason I remember it is because Bakula's character shoots a classic corner-five kick to win the cash.

On the Nickelodeon Channel there is a sitcom called Drake and Josh about two teenage boys. On one episode Josh (it may have been the other way around) found out that Drake was a "player" and got him to shoot against all the other teens down at the local rec hall. All the while he (Josh) was wagering "on the side" and keeping all the winnings for himself.
BTW, as a disclaimer, I am not a watcher of Nickelodeon. I happened across this show while surfing the kids channels looking for SpongeBob Squarepants for my grandson. Needless to say, once I caught a glimpse of the above mentioned show, my grandson had to wait a little while before he got the TV back :o !!!

That wasn't accidental that pool was featured on the show. Drake is Drake Bell, son of the legendary Hall of Famer, Robin Bell, now Dodson (posts here as Robroy). He has a new album out and has hit the big time in music as well as tv, and has been in several movies, most notably Jerry McGuire and the remake of Yours, Mine and Ours.

Drake could jump full balls several feet away with his mama's Frog when he was 10. ;)

V,
Well then, perhaps I shouldn't mention the Beverly Hillbillies (black and white days) episode where the pool hustler (?Charley Ruggles?) goes after Jed's money (playing on the "fancy eating table" with the "pot passer" cues). The hustler didn't realize that Jed's favorite pasttime was "ricochet shooting", so pool was not much of a challenge for him even though he had never played.

There are also 2 more Beverly Hillbillies episodes that feature the pool table, as well as a Twilight Zone episode. I have all these, plus the Dick Van Dyke episodes, all of which were obtained from the dollar store (except Twilight Zone).

I recall a "Frazier" episode...the character "Daphne" taking a couple of toughs in a game...

Although not sitcoms, Columbo once shot a few balls, each into a different pocket, then he would visit each pocket he just knocked a ball in and pull out a piece of evidence; by the time he ran 4 balls the guilty fellow knew he was had. Also, on Miami Vice, Sonny Burnett had to shoot a game of 8 ball to win his way into a boat race; I think he sank the one ball 3 times in that rack.

I can't be bothered to look up the episode names/details, but 3 I can think of:

1) "Grease" (The series, not the movie) had a scene where two of the students try and hustle some money for something. IIRC they play some guy some kind of Straight Pool game where he has to make 50 and they only have to make 1. They lose needless to say.)

2) "Arliss" (HBO comedy series) has an episode when one of his assistants get hustled in a bar. She calls up her relative, who just so happens to be Jeanette Lee, to hustle them back.

3) "Roseanne" has an episode in a bar (a repeated set) where they argue over who's turn it is next on the Pool table. Don't recall if any playing is involved

"Small Wonder", the sitcom where an inventor had invented a robot that was believable enough to pass for a human. "Vickie" was her name, and they passed her off as the inventor's daughter, less the gubmint take her away for military purposes.

The father's boss was a pool player, and happened to have Vickie and her father over a for a few games. Vickie runs out every time she comes to the table, like you'd expect a good robot to do. The boss loses it and ends up wanting to bet Vickie, and will fire Vickie's "Dad" if he won't let her gamble with him.

To make a long story short, Vickie wins the bosses company, and Dad gives it back to him in return for a promotion, or some other benefit.

It was an entertaining epsiode.. Vickie pulls off some wicked crazy shots.

This show also had Jesse "The Body" Ventura in for a cameo one time. Jesse played a guy that Vickie's dad used to pick on in high school, since he was such a geek. Dad was verrrrrrryyy surprised to see Jesse had "bulked up".

I have so many good memories of 80's show that never made it long term. There was one where a teenage boy was the only one who could see the ghost of a teenage girl that lived in the house. You can IMAGINE the shenanigans on that one!

Captain Power ROCKED! My XT-7 Jet was my favorite toy. Power on!

I remember an episode of Sledgehammer which contained some pool. Here's a quote from the episode guide:
Season 1: 16.The Color of Hammer
(In a spoof of the Colour of Money,Sledge plays a pool hustler who killed a high Court Judge.)

I only remember that the last shot was a jump shot... the cueball jumped straight up like 10ft and landed on the money ball. When I was a kid I always watched Sledgehammer ! :p

LMAO! Why'd you have to mention that Small Wonder episode? I vaguely remembered that show from my childhood, and have been wanting to see some old reruns for a while now. Now that I know there was a pool-themed episode, I'm going to be obsessed with trying to track that one down! :D

Let's see, there was a brady bunch episode, IIRC, where they bought a pool table, and Bobby Brady played against Mike Brady's associate, and busted him for a huge supply of bubble gum. That just sounds too lame to be true, but I guess it was the Brady Bunch. LOL.

There was also an episode of Who's the Boss, called "The Two Tony's". Tony and Angela go back to Tony's old neighborhood and run into his lady friend who is now married to an arrogant, egotistical man (also named Tony), who challenges Tony to a game of pool.

There were several Simpsons episodes where they play pool. One that comes to mind is shown in my current avatar. Homer becomes the leader of the Stonecutters (Springfield's version of the Masons), when they discover that he has a birthmark proving he is "the chosen one". Then the Stonecutters are forced to kiss his butt and help him cheat at pool and cards without letting on to him. Eventually, they get fed up with him, and form the ancient mystic society of "No Homers". :p

Small Wonder, "Pool Shark Vicki" AKA "Minnesota Vicky"

Awesome! I love the internet...

The summary from this site, says that Lou Butera performed the shots.

Looks like a Small Wonder DVD set is coming out, but I'll probably have to wait, since that episode was season 4. Hopefully they'll sell enough to continue putting out seasons. :p

This is great, I also just added that Brady Bunch episode ("The Hustler") to my Netflix queue. Its season 5, disc 4, in case anyone else wants it. :D

I forgot about that Brady Bunch. Also there was an episode of Gilligan's Island, Thurston Howell vs. Skipper. Jim Backus played Mr. Howell and Mike Brady's boss if I remember right.

What TV sitcoms do you think have had the best pool related episode? I can remember quite a few, but my favorite one was from an episode of Good Times where James (the father) had to resort to playing pool in order to make the rent payment on time. Another good one was on an episode of the Dick Van Dyke show. Any others?

Southpaw

The all time best was on Dr. Kildare . Fred Astair played an aging professional pool player and it was very well done. It was a two part show, two one hour episodes. It treated pool in the classiest way I have ever seen it portrayed on TV. I wish I could have it on disk.

Yah, from what I remember, they were playing straight pool to 100, and the arrogant Tony played jam-up, and it come sdown to the last shot, where good Tony has a seriously tough frozen cut shot down the rail, past the side pocket.

I remember seeing the episode after I got heavy into pool, and was in fact playing pretty close to my best, and remembered looking at the shot and thinking, "No way I want to shoot that shot for the cheese."

That wasn't Burgess Meredith, Ironman; it was the great character actor Frank Albertson, who also played a hustler on "Ironside". Albertson had flawless pool fundamentals and was wholly believeable both times.

Surprised none of you guys remembered the "Mission Impossible" (TV) show where Peter Graves was sent into action with a cue ball that would obey remote electronic commands (the tiny Robert Conrad, of "The Wild Wild West", guest-starred). Of course, Barney Collier, the MI team's electronics wizard, warned Jim (Graves) that the juiced ball could only improve Jim's already keen game by 5% or so. I'm not making this up! George Fels

Frank Albertson it was. I stand corrected.
