Snapping cues

I read this a long time ago............I've often wondered why I'm sometimes consumed with a need to demonstrate to everyone around me just how angry I am with the outcome of a shot. It doesn't change the outcome. It's not likely that my opponent is going to feel sorry for me and let me win. It doesn't impress those watching with my maturity and composure. Yet, the urge to act out doesn't go away just because I realize those points. I assume it's a combo of pride and embarresment.

The one I didn't see here is about the guys that are repeat offenders destroying cues to both vent their frustration and shark their opponent in a money game at the same time. I know of at least one room owner that has been known to miss a shot on a big money game, walk over to the entrance doors with cue in hand, step out side, and swing it like a bat releasing it to sail into the huge dark abyss of a parking lot over and above two or three rows of cars out into the night. The lot was a multi-buisness shopping center with most all the other retailers closed, so the cue could fly a long way with no cars at risk. He would then walk sternly back inside and grab another cheap import cue and go back to playing. That little shark action has been know to turn the set around causing his opponent a choke or two and the owner ends up flush with the booty. Use cheap cues like he does, and it becomes revered event.

I also know of a scumbag 400 lb hustler that carries a trunk full of cheap cues he uses to replace the cues he breaks when he is in action and losing. When you see your 350-400 lb opponent break the butt of a cue over his knee like it is a twig, you begin wondering what might be in store for you if you beat him.

I guess johny or earl cant play on ur team either than? Guess we will have to make up a team of bad boys? Tiger looks like he has broken a few clubs I bet?
I'm sure there are plenty of other pros of equal caliber that don't snap cues I could choose from. Given that you assume my team could attract the likes of johnny or earl.

It's about respect. For the game, for your opponent, for the equipment and yourself.

Last year in league some guy smashed his cue on the table, debris flew everywhere and just about took this guys eye out.he got a 3 month suspension. Not cool.A sign of either immaturity or anger problems.Thats they way I see it.
As for Archer,he just put the cue over his shoulders and snapped it.Earl on the other hand looked like he wanted to kill the concrete floor with his cue.Oh Earl.............Loser.

Nope, it's too far to go on my own dime. Maybe next year if my team wins the Westerns in Calgary.

Who's Wayne? 99 reasons I don't watch hockey?

You got it all wrong my friend...

It looked to me that right after Earl shot, he saw a Cock-A-Roach on the floor and tried to kill it.....and in the process...accidentally broke his cue...

Johnny was getting in some quick practice for his stong-man-bend-iron-bar competition coming up......but he forgot he had wood in his hand and it brokded... ;)

Seriously....

There is a positive about all of these broken cues.

I dont know how many cuemakers I have spoken to that have told me they got started from looking at "broken" cue.

I have not only heard it, but they had to show me the cue that got them started.

LOL, I swear this is the truth!

I got bad news for everybody. IT ISN'T THE CUE'S FAULT YOU MISSED! It's yours and yours alone. You might as well snap your own forearm, that's where the blame lies. I have missed zillions of balls and the thought of breaking my playing cue never entered my mind. I prefer to figure out why I missed so maybe I won't do it next time.

But that's just me. Maybe the cue snappers know something I don't. :)

Bro ur opinion clearly now means nothing too me! Keep ur child like name calling from across the continent to ur self and dont make this personal, unless ur willing too come up here too toronto an u can attempt too call me or my friend a clown standing 3 feet away. Also ur comparing comment leads me to believe u arent that bright and I hang out with all kinds of different types of people, maybe thats the problem? I dont even no why I am bothering with this post because I can already see where this is going, clearly this post is above ur vision of what the world is really like an u seem to live in a sheltered life with very selective friends around u. So let it go and we can leave this as difference of opinion.

Something similar occured in my room a few years back but he took it one step further. The player was a little below average in ability so it wasn't like he was unfamilar with missing shots. Maybe it was the accumilation of misses that sent him over the edge, but after a miss on the 9-ball he put his cue down and walked over to the bar and asked how much I would charge him for a house cue. He was being very calm but I had a feeling what was coming so I picked out an old one and told him that it was on special for $10.00. He said "deal", took the cue and calmly walked out the front door. His car was parked directly in front of the glass front doors so everone in the room had a good view as he proceeded to to beat the hell out of his car with the house cue. He persisted until the pieces of the cue were too small to inflict further damage to the car. He then picked up all the pieces of the cue, brought them back in and put them in the trash. Without ever saying a word, he went back to the table, racked the balls, picked up his cue and looked at his opponent as if nothing had happened.

I've read the previous posts and know that some don't see any humur in this. I'm just hope that this post doesn't set off any car lovers.

Actually, as many have expressed in this thread, different people express their frustration in different ways in a competative situation. For those that say that he or others can't become champions with those sorts of "issues", there I must argue.

Woody Austin (aka aquaman of late) was, until he garnered his new nickname after falling face first in the water after a golf shot in I believe the President's Cup, most known for (aside from being ranked second in the world 9 weeks into this years season) the constantly replayed clip of him bashing himself in the head with his putter, bending it and I'm sure giving himself a headache.

Many champions are SUPER competitive and a few express it in unfortunate ways. I think most later regret those expressions but to say people of that nature "can't" be champions is clearly untrue. I am happy to say I learned after climbing a tree to retrive my $400.00 driver very early in my golf career, their was little merit in those types of expressions in sport for me. Woody and many other champions prove the self controlled way clearly isn't the ONLY way.
