Sometimes I just don't get pool players

This thread should be a reminder that your judged by the friends you keep. Both these guys are friends because their behavior is so similar. They can commiserate with each other because they think and behave in the same manner. This is also why I have stopped playing for money. Recently I had an experience with a guy I used to shoot with regularly. We played two cheap sets (on his insistance) he lost both the last one on the hill. Since then I have seen him several times asked him to play and he has declined. Sadly his ego must be broken and I have lost a friend to shoot pool with over a paltry sum of money. I play leagues and some tournaments but mostly I play for enjoyment and could care less about wins and losses..

I've had quite a few such experiences myself. It's why I've become more of a tournament player in recent years. I still love to gamble but I'm much more selective about who I'll gamble against. Keep looking and you'll find a couple good people to play with. As for those who aren't just don't ever play them again. I've been pleasantly surprised by how good mannered the best players around Tampa are. I've played cheap (and on occasion not so cheap) with Mills, Crosby, Roberts, Hall, Richeson and never had any issues with any of them. In MD I was offered an opportunity to play a set for $1000 and even though I would've got staked I declined due to the other players lack of pool etiquette.
Hey Mike,
I didn't see Corey's name on that list...:)

My first tournament

I had my first tournament for one of my retirement communities. Talk about a crack up...now mind you they're in the 80-90 year old bracket.
They wanted it quiet and made sure everyone knew it. They insisted in NO talking between partners....that's when I had to step in LOL I said they are partners its ok for them to talk. But once they got down on the ball talking was over. A few times they jumped back up off the shot to say "I'm up...lets talk again" priceless!!! I couldn't believe how HUGE this would be for them. One guy didn't hear me when I said no talking when your partner gets down on the ball. They all spoke at the same time "I guess the rules don't apply to him" LOL "He couldn't hear" I went over to him and told him the rules before a war broke out. So I guess you never grow out of it...we all love to WIN!

Annoying

That would have annoyed the heck out of me, I probably would have just paid and chalk it up to a bad experience.

I was playing a tournament recently and was in a match with a guy we played our first game and he won. He looks up while wearing his headphones and says, "It's 2-0 right?" I said, "We have only played one game" He started getting angry and said, "You won the flip and broke the first game, I broke the second and won them both." I reminded him that he broke first and won the flip and we played one game.

He started slamming the balls in the rack and said, "Whatever man!" I just ignored him and kept playing. This guy smelled so bad of pot while we were playing and I am thinking to myself if you are going to go out to your car and smoke weed in between matches at least don't smoke so much that you forget how to count.

People like this really ruin the fun of the game.

Some POOL PLAYER are CHEAP to the point of making me SCREAT MY HEAD, and are OX MORONS, who Talk the Talk, but don't Walk the Talk they TALK.

We have one who is a 30 YEAR PLUS RETIREE of the U.S. Auto Industry, Two Homes, Two Cars, He and his Mrs. both have GREAT PENSIONS. Plus MAX Social Security Check each month!

THE CHEAP SOB Steal People Chalk, we are not talking KAMUI, but MASTER BLUE. Then when the Victim say, where my CHALK the THIEF say he don't know.

Give me a break Master Chalk is what $3.00-$4.00/Dozen, and the CHEAP SOB, seals CHALK.

Next he talks about what The American Economy NEEDS to REBOUND is are good PAYING MANUFACTURING JOBS. Well Mr. Red, White, and Blue is talking UNION JOBS.

But when he spend his money on Pool Stuff for himself it is all from OFF SHORE, and the Cheaper Stuff he finds on SALE, or some poor Sucker Down on his Luck is forced to sell the stuff to him.

I Once ASKED, when don't you Support American Pool Cuemakers with the Purchase of an AMERICAN MADE CUE, and the Reply is why my XYZ is fine. His last Cue purchased was a brand made off shore, he need a new Cue because the OLD ONES FERREL WAS Cracked. So he weighed his option.

$30.00-to$35.00 for a Repair, and took Option Two, a NEW CUE for UNDER THE COST of the REPAIR....LOL

Really? Who's offended? I think it's funny when people talk about things when they don't have a clue. Public forum means anyone can say whatever, right? So why would you be offended about what I say. I'll stay in the main forum because it annoys you.

Oh boy....did you pick the wrong polar bear to poke!! I would venture to guess that JAM knows more about gambling and pool than you'll ever know...but I'll let you figure that out for yourself, since you're so smart.

BTW....the thread title did little to indicate that the thread was about gambling. Additionally, Mike did request input from other members...and did not specify that that input be limited to gamblers alone. There was actually a nice little discourse going until you decided to play Hall Monitor.

Weed does cause some memory loss and even halluncinations in others.

I think even in friendly games, there are bound to be mistakes made by both parties. I sometimes forget if I moved the coin or if my opponent did or what pocket was mine, etc. I try to remember that in the whole scheme of things, I'm really just trying to enjoy myself most of the time and I should try not to sweat the small stuff.

I've always wondered why Mark Wilson YEARS ago quit gambling, he figured it out quicker than most, wonder what triggered that?

Ah, you have to love the gambling aspect of pool.....NOT!!

I used to gamble all the time with almost anybody. That was many moons ago it seems.

Jump to present day. I don't know if it's age, wisdom, or just tired of the grumbling that goes with gambling. Don't get me wrong, I'm no saint, I occasionally will play for money, but normally I'm content to just play with friends.

Mike, I would just quit playing with the 2 guys you mentioned, there are plenty of other guys in the Phoenix area.

Over the years, I discovered that it's not worth a few bucks to play certain guys. It's much more enjoyment playing folks that don't wine about losing a few bucks.

As they say "life's too short"...........
