Tonight Mr. Bond talks with the always passionate Mark Griffin, CEO of Cue Sports International about the present state - and future - of professional pool in the U.S...and why he doesnt serve on the BCA board anymore ?!

Mike Howerton talks with CSI recruit Ozzy Reynolds to discuss his challenging new role.

Mark Cantrill talks about Mosconi's elephant. Peanuts anyone?

Rack up a game and join us tonight on American Billiard Radio.com

This week's episode should have posted on the website a few minutes ago.

If it's not there, we may have the same file 'bottleneck' problem that we experienced last week. I will check into it right now and report back shortly.

What he said!

The fact that ABR's latest episode has already posted, yet can't be heard is a traffic issue. This is actually good news! It means that there are HUNGRY listeners out there, overwhelming your website.

I will listen a little later as well...Can't wait!

Thanks David, please post back here when you've confirmed. I look forward to it.

That was Pete :) He's good people but he cant offer much help at this point.
Thanks Pete, goto bed.

I want to profusely apologize for these delays.
I'll be taking care of this issue myself, right now, so we should be good to go shortly.

No, you goto bed!

For those that havent checked, this week's show has been posted (for a while now), thank you for your patience during this learning experience for us all. Apparently the mistake maker has taken a permanent vacation, so we don't anticipate any future timing issues.
Happy Holidays to everyone !
And please be safe.

Mark G. "Only about 1% of players can be considered pros". When you think about that, true pros amount to even less than that. Me thinks about a dozen of the "pro" players have really screwed things up with open tournaments and I can not agree with Mark more. It's about time a promoter took a stand. Johnnyt

Why is it always the American pros are scrutinized in the pool world?

People seem to enjoy piling on the bash-pro threads, but there are others who don't have clean hands in American pool, aside from the pros. Nobody utters a peep about it.

With this continuing trend of decimating the American pros, we can all just hammer in the final nail on the American professional pool coffin. Is that the goal here with the continuing criticizing?

A novel idea would be to think of a way to fix it. Cultivate the youth. Donate to the BEF. Have pro exhibitions for charity events.

I guess it's easier to just continue to slam the American pros at every turn. :(

Just wondering if you listened to the show from which the comment was quoted?

Thank you for the reply. I was actually referring more to Johnnyt's comments in his post, not the quote from the show. :)

Do you mean like the IPT, Bonus Ball, Mackey, the countless pro tours that went belly up, and promoters that stiff the players like Barry and others over the years? Lets not forget what happened to casino betting on pool many years ago. I could go on and on. You have been part of pool for many years and know way more than I do. Johnnyt

Pretty interesting stuff.

Mark Griffin's point of view is always important to consider, as he is one of those that determines whether or not to invest in pro pool. Pro pool is a product that few feel is worth investing in, but Mark is one of those that continues to take a shot. I think the most important thing Mark said was, and I'm paraphrasing, "Until the industry adds value for a sponsor, pool won't go anywhere."

Mark noted that the responsibility for the current state of the game lies in the hands of many, observing that "there are some bad promoters, bad sponsors, bad venues and bad players." Everyone has to hold themselves to high standards, he logically concluded.

He also noted that damage was done by Matchroom's decision to drop the use of BCA points for invitations to its events was a serious blow to American pool, something that quite a few on the forum have already observed. The right to participate in Matchroom events used to be based on measurable performance, and we really need to get back to that.

Finally, he noted that American pool will never have the business model enjoyed by Matchroom, a beneficiary of the Tele-tax in the UK which is approximately $200 per family in the UK, and which raises huge moneys for the British networks to fund their programming.

This was my first ABR experience and it was a positive one.

How does one advance to the part/parts of your broadcast they are interested in hearing, is that possible to do? I hope so !

Could you expound a little on that Tele-tax and why it benefits MS please Stu. I never heard of it. Thanks

You are correct that some people love to bash the pros...but in all fairness, I actually did raise the question (on the show) " is it just the pros, or is it also the promoters, or the fans...etc"

As Mark also pointed out, nobody really has clean hands in all of this mess.

You should be able to skip forward and back using the slider on the audio player.

Actually the slider doesn't work, that's what I tried before I originally asked the question in my post. TY

PS, The audio player doesn't even work on the first screen that comes up, I had to follow the directions below it that said if the player doesn't appear then go to the audio
archive, and that player worked for the Dec.19 show. Good luck with your show!

Amen to that.
