Stop with the cue pointing!!!!!!!

My position is here.
I gotta get there.
My aiming point is here.
Puuuleeeease!
Just friggin' play.
You need more practice!!
You will never true dead stroke with that nonsense.
I pity those players.
ESPECIALLY some advanced one's still playing scared.

This advice coming from someone with "Gunnin' for a 2 PACK!" motto under his profile name holds high value apparently :grin::eek:

here he is again with the pointing, this time he only missed the 3rd ball by 5 rails

No pockets to point at though. Lol

Alex the Lion does pretty good every now and then with that 'pointing thing' that annoys you..??
I want half his action when you play him.
:wave3:
I should of said excessive pointing.

Instead of pointing I like to use powder to mark the spot where I wanted the cue ball to land.
That's awesome.

Every time they point I fart!
Lmao.

Ummm. That logic fails every time. Move along.

I like to point and I wish everybody pointed. I'd like to play where you call all your shots and your next shots. If you get out of line, you have to still shoot to the original pocket you called for the next ball.

Ok, I have to admit my remark was little cheap for which I apologize, lets talk logic then. What do you know about visualization? Are you aware of its benefits? Have you actually tried it when playing pool? Have you watched any Fargorate 800+ players how they prepare for playing advanced positions during their matches?

I should've said EXCESSIVE pointing. (Slow play)
Was watching a very slow match at the time.
I started an identical thread back in February titled "We know where you wanted to leave the Cue Ball". Apparently you missed seeing it, but there is something about doing this that I don't like - particularly players that aren't very good and do it only because they see some pro players doing it. They actually make themselves look foolish when they miss their intended spot by half a table, or they come close to their intended spot, but miss the shot!

If it's an honest attempt to learn, I can't fault a new player for trying to get their cueball to a specific spot. It's good to see that little light-bulb go off that tells them where it lands is very important. All I ask is that they don't mark the table or put chalk marks on the rails. That will make anyone who owns a table cringe.

At the pro level, I'm happy to see the thought process. I don't like slow play either; somewhere in the middle is just fine. It's not a race, and it's not as riveting as paint drying.

By that logic there must be a ton of things players in other sports should stop doing:

Golfers - stop taking practice swings, and what's with the kneeling down trying to get a read on the green.....just putt the damn thing!!!!

I could hit more sports but it's early :boring2:

I'm in agreement with you. I think a lot of amatuers are doing it for show, imitating the pros who do it.

I am watching. I know pretty much where you are trying to get to.

I know of one guy that would us a protractor on each shot.

There is also the Kurt Gowdy play by play guys. "I was trying to get here." I know where you were trying to get to. I'm watching. Just play.

There's pointing and then there's measuring. Two different things. People who measure are legitimately figuring something out. People who point are just acting out their thought process, some for the benefit of the spectators and some just because they developed the pretty meaningless habit of doing it. Visualization? I think there are much more efficient ways to visualize a shot than pointing.

I like it! Use all five fingers for area position.

Freddie <~~~ can't be that precise

LOL - when I see threads like this I think about those videos of Filipino "street games" with chaos all around. A guy who is worried about somebody pointing would fall apart in those circumstances.

Pointing AND air stroking... don't get me started. Stop the performance art and shoot the shot.. you know where whitey needs to be already.

Thank God some of you don't play golf. If simple pointing drives you batty dudes crouching down on the green and plum-bobbing for a minute or two only to piss the putt a foot wide would drive you absolutely batsh*t.

I don't mind the pointing before the shot to help visualize where you want the cue ball to go. It's the pointing after they miss position on where they wanted the cue ball to end up that gets me.

Not all brains work the same. There are times where that kind of visualizing is very helpful for me, so I do it. Most times I can see it pretty clearly, but what’s wrong with taking a different kind of look at a shot every now and then? I happen to think that the person in the chair should mind their own business while their opponent shoots. Unless they’re being unreasonably slow, who cares?

I guess I'm the only amateur pool player here that actually finds it easier to get a more precision cue ball position by physically identifying where on the table I want it to stop.

Difference for me is that I don't point but rather walk to the table close to the spot where I want the cue ball and visualize by a fist-sized area of what I need to impart to the cue ball to get it to that spot.

Honestly, I'd be a better player if I did this more often, but I usually only do it for shots where absolute cue ball placement is necessary.
