Hey Guys,

i havent been playing much lately due to an old shoulder injury thats been acting up on me lately... Been in some extremly bad pain !!

The Other day i decided, actually Charlie convinced me to come out and hit some balls. i figured it might be good to give the shoulder a workout....So for a goof i decided to bring the camera along.

we played 3 games. 1st game i played horribly, and so did charlie. i just could not get comfortable.

2nd game, after a little break. i catch a little bit of a gear and run a 49. It wasnt a pretty 49, i make some mistakes but thats just from lack of play.

3rd game, no substantial runs. just tried to play comfortably and let the stroke out a little.

Here's The Link !

all in all, i am glad that charlie talked me into it....and yes i am still in pain !! looks like a trip to the chiropractor is in order....LOL

i strongly recommend lifting weights. i had a ACL injury from getting a motersickle out of my truck. it was bad. i could barely walk and had to pull my leg into my car by hand. a big bruise extended down my leg. lesser 14.1 players would have had surgery but i toughed it out. ;~) when my leg was healed enough to do walk, i walked on it until it told me to stop. i then slowly began lifting weights. after a while i started jogging lightly in short "sprints" until it hurt, then i'd walk the rest of the way. it took almost two full years but now i can run full blast on it. for a while though i was worried that i'd never be able to run again.

so my advice to you is to work it until it's healed. the body will respond. but "listen" to your injury and don't keep working it if it hurts too much. you don't want to reinjure it.

Thanks for the advice, the pain i am feeling was caused by a car accident. it really messed up the curvature of the spine in my neck. My neck no longer has a natural arch to it. it is straight ! nerves get pinched sending pain through my right shoulder, and the pain resinates in my right forearm.

i am sure now that after 13 years, there is some degeneration of the bone. i am going to be making some appointments and getting some M.R.I's to see what the hell is going on there.

few people have tried to tell me that it is from my hobby (Straight Pool) and no way am i quitting that !!!!

hopefully i get some good news soon from the doctors, until then i am gonna keep excercizing it. i am sure that it cant hurt, in some ways yes. but in the long run it can only help !!

Steve

hope everything turns out well and you will be fine again, soon steve. you sure will have better runs again soon, don´t worry.

steve: neck injuries are different. you have to be really careful. having said this, i would still work it because if you stress bone, it will get stronger. i also recommend glucosamine supplements and a heating pad. i had a back injury and i just layed in front of the TV with the heating pad under my back. it worked. a bad chiropractor could really screw you up so be careful. lots of idiots out there.

Sounds like that we have the same injury. I too was in a bad auto accident on duty in the Army. It has taken a toll on me over the years.
I had a MRI and it showed that I have two bone spurs in my neck that are pushing up against my spinal cord, along with degeneration. It causes pain in my neck and it goes down to my right shoulder and right forearm. Big time pain.
I went to a pain management doctor. He sent me to a Out Patient Clinic where they put you under and give you a steroid shot into your spinal cord to reduce the swelling. There are three sets of shots. They help.
I had so much pain a few years ago that I had to be taken to the emergency room. I ended up not being able to move my right arm and could not play pool for 3 weeks b/c I could not move that arm until I had the shots. Just had the shots done again and they help. You need to look into it. I would not let a chiropractor adjust your neck until you get that MRI and see whats going on in there.
I will watch your video soon. Good luck with the health and keep us
posted.

49 Ball Run

Steve:
That was strong shooting. You remind me of Gabe Owen when you are down shooting, very smooth and you play patterns very well. Great shot on that 3 ball in the side on that break shot. That was a strong shot.
Good work, hope the health improves & keep posting.

Good job Steve. Like StraightMan said that was a great shot on the 3 ball. Good try getting on that last breakball in the side pocket. Keep it up.

Thanks alot Guys that is a real nice compliment !

Bill that was not the intended end pattern. I fell short going up for the 8 and had to shoot my break ball early. The ball in the side was intended to be my key ball.

I ended up kinda straight on the key ball that I had left. And should of looked at it better and went 2 rails to the back Rail and out to have a more of a cross angle on the break ball.

Knowing me I would of probably scratched off the rack anyways !!

Hey Thanks,

I am not sure as of yet. all depends on money, and how my injury feels.

47

Steve:

Finally got a chance to look at it. Nice run. Started with 6 on the table, made 5 out of the first rack and then 3 more racks for 42 more so it is a 47 ball run.

In the first rack, I thought you were going to use the 6 or 13 which were above the rack on either side as break shots but instead you shot the 13 and bumped the two down with only 4 balls left on the table. You needed some good cue ball control to get on the breaker but you did it nice. Big angle.

Nice combo to really open them up after the break shot. When you shot the two ball and the cue ball went up top, I was thinking you were leaving the bottom area pretty quickly with a lot of balls underneath still needing to be cleared out. Then I figured you could pick off the uptable balls while you were there and go back down. You ended up just snagging one of them and then going back down to get to work. The one you left uptable was a solo but since it was near the pocket, that was ok,. It ended up being your key ball. So after you picked off the 8, you were on top of the remaining balls with an angle on the one which opened up the little congestion near the spot and scrambled all the balls underneath. Now they were all open but no obvious break shot. You fixed that pretty quickly by bumping the 5 or was it the 3 up for a break ball. When you shot that uptable hanger to get shape your cue ball crossed the position line and your break shot turned into a side pocket break shot. 19.

You executed that shot fine and got an easy side pocket to start leading you down below the rack where there were three or four open shots. You got yourself a good angle, a safety ball, and obliterated the rack, leaving only two balls touching and creating a break ball. Those two balls stuck together were your only problem and you worked your way over to them and shot one of them in the side but you bumped some balls including your break ball, but it was still ok. After that you just had a nice little pattern to clear around the break shot and got on it perfectly. 33.

Nicely executed break shot. Cue ball comes back towards the kitchen but not too far. Ball hanging in the pocket so you are fine. You work a nice pattern to get on the best ball to reopen the rack, shoot it good, they spread and then come back together a bit. But they look pretty open and you have shots. You pick off a few then its not clear what the best breaker will be. 13 to the 2 on the left hand side. 6 to the 12 on the right hand side. Or even 8 to the 10 behind the rack. All are doable. Looks like you wasted no time in choosing the 2. But came up a little short on the 8.
Nice try on the breaker but you may have got distracted counting balls or something. What did you have on the cue ball. Were you trying to go straight into the rack or off a rail or 2 first? 47

Nice smooth stroking. Hope your back gets better and you can keep them coming.

Thank you dennis, i hadn't recounted it once i uploaded it. i was basing the # on what charlie had counted during the game.

i love your play by play. like i said i have not been playing much, so i am a little eratic with the cueball and play some wrong patterns due to it.

in the last rack i fell short playing for the 8, after that i was gonna go for the ball up table on the rail and play for the ball in the side as my keyball to the 2/4 ball. they were linked nicely, i like high breakshots. but that all changed with my bad stoke to get to the 8. from the 8 i had multiple ways to get to the ball up top.

i had to shoot the breaksot prematurly, and had gotten a little straight on the key ball which was left. i should have looked at it better and maybe followed it 2 rails for more of a cross angle on the ball in the side as the breakball.

I think you are right i was a little distracted, i was tring to follow to the rail and go 2 rails into the rack. but i kinda gave it the give-up stroke out of frustration from having played the end pattern badly and having a bad angle breakshot.

Thanks Alot !
Steve

PS. either way 47 or 49 is still my high on video, and not too shabby for having not played much and for being in excrutiating pain

steve: i just watched "33 or 32 Whatever !!!" the other was too big for my dialup. you have an excellent stroke and great shot-making skills. while watching that vid, just before you scratched in the corner pocket, i said to myself: "watch the scratch in the corner". lol.... i've done it many times myself. it's uncanny how hard-follow into a secondary cluster from above, will get that cue to bee-line for the corner pocket. as a consequence, i hit those shots with less force and sometimes draw. hitting clusters and or breaks with too much force can cause all kinds of problems. with your most excellent shooting acumen, all you have to do now is take a little speed off of the kojak and hit your secondary breaks with more deliberation and you'll be fine.
