Strickland vs. Vandenberg

I seem to remember some static between Nick VB and Earl a few years ago at the Mosconi Cup. If I remember right, Earl made a comment about the "young" guy not knowing how to run a rack properly or some other disparaging remark.

I know I won't be cheering for Earl anymore, what a disgrace he is to the sport.

go earl is all i have to say tbh. the man's a legend! plus few things in life are more entertaining than an Earl rant, so keep em coming I say!

Earl is a great player and still a big threat to win this, however to say Earl is hard done by and people always push is buttons is the lamest excuse I've ever heard! Earl certainly doesn't need anyone to push his buttons to go off and act like an ass, I actually think he looks for it to pumo himself up and shark his opposition. Keep it real!

GO EARL!

In the fashion of the English sports fans, I sing this song rooting for Earl Strickland:

Oh, Earlie Boy.
The fans, the fans are calling.
They want you there,
so they can poke at you.

Oh, Earlie Boy.
This win will be the sweetest one.
Though fans are fickle,
you are the champion.

Here's a couple of little jewels I heard here in Vegas:

"My sleeve got in the way when I pulled the trigger."

"Look at how that ball skidded."

"I never missed a shot, played the best pool of my life, and he still beat me."

I'm with ya JAM. I love to watch Earl play and I love to hear him talk even more. This is just Earl being Earl. Unless you just started following pool you shouldn't be surprised by stuff like this. Just relax and be entertained.

Pool needs more people like Earl.

Firstly, Earl Strickland has paid his dues, many times over. He has 'earned the right' to voice his opinion through his unquestionable skill and his considerable tournament wins.

I don't believe for one minute that most of us (AZ'rs) wouldn't give our eye-tooth to posess one half of Earl's talent. No?

Consider his record:

5 times US Open Champion

2 times World 9-Ball Champion

BCA Billiards Hall of Fame Member

Multiple USA Mosconi Cup team appearances

etc...

When this guy talks, people listen! Earl has proven that his skill 'on the table' merits respect.

His comments and opinions 'off the table' should also be respected. He's often 'off the mark' and his quotes are, on occasion, surprising & unexpected (!). However... Earl Strickland is passionate about pool. In every way possible. Just like many of the rest of us, except he plays better!

So...

C'mon Earl Strickland!!!!!

We love ya baby!!!

Earl's Power

Another thing to like about EARL....most threads don't elicit too many replies and responses, but any thread with Earl's name in it seems to always draw many many replies and posts to read........

Earl's BCA HOF page

I think everyone respects Earl's accomplishments, after all it's IMPOSSIBLE not to. It's just sad that he loses fans because of his behavior.

Marc Wilson gave some insightful commentary on Earl's tendencies in The Color of Money match in the Philipines. He said how Earl thrived off negative energy and controversy. He's proven this to be true time and time again, but sometimes it can overcome him.

I like Earl too. I've only seen him play in person about 6 or 7 times since the early 1980's and I've always been impressed with his manner. I've never seen him go off the deep end though.;)

I'm not sure where the evenings matches are currently but I wrote a quick excel program to show what 2 close players that may get eliminated will have to do to move forward. I enter the players names and their total and winning scores before the match starts and it shows the final %'s for all possible scores. IOW the match between Earl and Alcono shows that even if Earl wins 8:7 he still will not advance,.... losing by 1/100 of a %

Earl Alcano
Current 55.91% 56.07%
8-0 57.46% 54.05%
8-1 57.21% 54.26%
8-2 56.96% 54.46%
8-3 56.71% 54.67%
8-4 56.47% 54.87%
8-5 56.22% 55.07%
8-6 55.98% 55.26%
8-7 55.74% 55.46%
7-8 55.32% 55.90%
6-8 55.13% 56.14%
5-8 54.94% 56.39%
4-8 54.74% 56.64%
3-8 54.55% 56.89%
2-8 54.35% 57.14%
1-8 54.15% 57.40%
0-8 53.95% 57.66%

Edit: Had to modify my spreadsheet. The above should be correct.:o

I am so pleased this idiot is out.

Sorry, yes he has won multiple titles, blah blah blah, but the way he acts whenever I watch him is stupid.

To the people who are commenting about Nick's family supposedly talking while Earl is at the table, have you seen Mike Sigel play during this event?!?!?!?!

He talks non stop, even when his opponent is at the table. He couldn't stop talking when he played Lynda, I would of asked the referee to have a word as that is just unacceptable.

Obviously the IPT are trying to introduce the pool characters around the circuit, but they shouldn't be people like Earl, he is a disgrace... and constantly gets away with it.

COME OOOOOOOOON EUROPE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

Ask Jason Kirkwood how the English team/fans treated him when he played Darren Appleton in the finals of the Grand Masters. It was like listening to a drunken English soccer match. At least Jason was good natured & tried to give them some ribbing and shouting back but he was a sole entity compared to the Appleton entourage.

Jam--that was your greatest post ever.

GO USA

I'll pull for my man, David Matlock, but he might come up a little short.
No, no no!! Positive vibes for Dave . . . .

There was ABSOLUTELY NO NEED for strickland to go off on one like that at El NINIO, the guy is an ass and needs to learn some god damn respect strickland no matter how many world titles he has won dosen't give him the right to go attacking another player let alone family member verbaly or otherwise.

STRICKLAND IS AN ASS.
