This thread title is a false announcement.

Had you begun a thread "Mosconi Team USA Would be Better Off Without Shane" and defended that point of view in your initial post, you'd have been in bounds. There's nothing wrong with professing a point of view that you know will be unpopular, but broadcasting an outright lie to draw interest to your thread is beneath the dignity of this forum.

Yes, it's pool related, but I'd favor the deletion of this thread.
 
Mosconi Cup is in part a "made for tv bettting'' event. That's where the $$ comes from. So you want the players who draw viewers. SVB is certainly one of them, and a great player.
 
Let's just say they had a qualifying event to see who made/misssed being on the MC team. SVB would be on the team EVERY time so who would you take besides him? Somebody with ZERO name recognition so the US team MIGHT win the M'Cup? The next five U.S. players people are gonna name in this thread can't beat Shane doing anything on a pool table. MR sells this thing as ENTERTAINMENT and as long as SVB is a top player he'll be playing.

Oh come on, with all due respect, you cannot be serious.

You give the opportunity for experience to players you expect to eventually rise to an elite level of play, comparable to the best in the world.

The Mosconi Cup is not a real serious event anyway, make it more fun!
Each team MUST consist of a 18-20 year old, a 60+ year old, at least 1 female, 1 other who has never participated before and 1 other of any choice.
 
He's a known choker in that event and I don't think he is mentally strong for an event like that. Thank goodness pool's atmosphere is that of a library. I don't know how these guys would handle an environment like that of any sporting event. Its very similar to golf.

I know he has a lot of fans but lets be objective here. He sucks at the Mosconi Cup and is a known choker at the event. I remember how he rattled that shot two years ago. He was suppose to set the tone for the team. It was downhill from there. He captained the USA to its biggest defeat in history. The match was over in 2 days so the tournament had to delay a lot of matches to extend the event because I believe it was suppose to be 3 or 4 days. I am going off memory so feel free to look it up and prove me wrong.

You are damned if you do, damned if you don't. Without him half of the US probably wouldn't bother watching, he is a huge draw.

It will probably get replaced by the Reyes Cup anyway, we will never win again, so why bother?

And the lower profile folks they've given a shot to also had a horrid response

I don't see how svb can't be the best we can offer. He plays good, is an acceptably classy competitor and he is a responsible adult.
