Swanee updates

SUNNYDAY-- A BIG, BIG, BIG, "THANK YOU" to you, Mark Griffin, Mark Estes, Holly, Jay Helfert, and the Hollywood Billiards staff (Jeff & crew). You guys organized and managed this event great. I was there for the 2 days and you guys never stopped. That board was always changing and names were always being called. Awesome!

Thank you for commenting on my finish this year. Last year was my first year playing where I won my first, lost my second, won the third, and then lost the fourth. I knew I was going to play again and knew I wanted to do better.

I surprised myself with my 13-16 finish this year and am very satisfied. BUT it's also made me more hungry! Through the course of the 2 days I learned a lot about myself on the table. I know what weaknesses I need to work on and also what mental challenges I need to do better with. I will definitely be signing up for next year. Holly- taking early sign-ups yet? :D

Playing Oscar Dominguez my last match was truly an experience. He is such a great player! I really admired how he moved the ball around and his safety play was amazing! I hung in there for the first 2 or 3 games but after that he was like runaway train. I had my opportunities but my inexperience against him was obvious (bad safety play, inconsistent position play, etc...). For some reason, losing to Oscar didn't bruise my ego too much. How often does someone like me get to play against a pro like Oscar? Oh btw, last year, his father Ernesto put me into the one-loss side. I wonder... are there any other Dominguez' I might have to face next year? :) :D Oscar... My hats off to you. I wish you all the success in the world! You are a true professional, a class act!

I wanted to say "HEY" to all the AZers I met/saw this year:
Jaden, breakball, FranknCali, spongebob, charlesufarley, poolhustler, dogsplayingpool, and others (sorry if I missed u).

DogsPlayingPool-- Thank you for the cigar and conversation! You're a cool cat! (or dog i should say) :)

Poolhustler/breakball/spongebob-- Thank you for the support throughout the event.

Jay-- It was great seeing you again! Till next time...

Wayne-- Congrats on your finish! Sorry we didn't get to meet/introduce.

OMGWTF-- Melinda, I am so sorry to hear what happened to you. Truly upsetting when I found out about it. I hope you're doing better. :)
Lastly, if you're ever in LA area do yourself a favor and drop by Hollywood Billiards. I told Jeff that not only does he have a great room but his and his staffs customer service is top notch! Customer service means a lot to me and goes a long way. Food there was great too! The Blackened Catfish was to die for. :D :)

Regards,

Excellent performance Abe! Sunny asked me your last name and I told her you were also the engineer of the Laser Rack...I hope you don't mind. We were all so proud of you this weekend. Also, Mark Griffin mentioned that he didn't realize you could play this well....I told him, "Oh yeah, he can move the rock around a little" LOL!

With much gratitude!!!!

As Jay said, the Swanee is more than just a pool tournament, it is a happening for Southern California pool. It was great just to be able to participate, see some old faces, and meet new friends.

It was wonderful to see Abe, Asgar, Russ, Kevin, Ryan and Issac, as well as Brendan and his dad Bill. Jaden, it was especially good to see you up and around and doing well. Nasty scar but otherwise not too much the worse for wear. Stay off diving boards, the summer games are not for another 2 years. lol

Special thanks to Mark, Sunny and the rest of the CSI staff. This is a labor of love for Mark, not a profit making venture. To devote the time, energy, and money you do to provide this "Woodstock" for pool in Southern California is more than appreciated.

Last and not least, much gratitude to Jay, not just for all the work involved in running such a mammoth event, but for the show of support in my third match on Saturday. I can't tell you how much that meant to me.

I've only one more thing to say: It's time for Jose Parica, the godfather of Filipino pool, to enter the Hall of Fame.

1777 ?? Damn.. I didn't know this tournament has been around that long!! :grin-square:

It was good to see you do well in this tournament Abe. Great job. I had a couple of good wins (8-0 and 7-1) but overall am not happy with the way I performed.

CharlesUFarley-- Thanks! I knew you had 2 convincing wins but lost track of you after that. I was definitely pulling for you man!

Excellent performance Abe! Sunny asked me your last name and I told her you were also the engineer of the Laser Rack...I hope you don't mind. We were all so proud of you this weekend. Breakball-- Thanks for the support Roger! I don't mind at all, thanks! :)
It was real cool hanging with you this weekend. See you at Danny K's soon...

...

I've only one more thing to say: It's time for Jose Parica, the godfather of Filipino pool, to enter the Hall of Fame.

TAP, TAP, TAP! Yes, this is loooooong overdue!
Btw, on Sunday morning I saw Parica get to HB and exit his car with flowers in hand. Who were they for? Jay, Mark, or Sunny? :) :D

Congrats Abe :thumbup2:
I guess those lunch hour practice sessions are paying off. ;)

Who is this winner - Hahn Chong? Where is he now?

I am pretty that is Hahn from San Francisco (Family Billiards). Very, very good player.

It was too bad not to see a stronger contingent from Nor Cal (as in years past). Missed: Billy Palmer, George Michaels, Jeff Gregrory, Frank Nordman, Santos Sambajon, Rafael Martinez (Oregon) and more...

I also did not see Ismael "Morro" Paez, Victor Ignacio-Castro, Tang Hoa, Scott Frost, and some other usual suspects.

There was a 20+ waiting list I heard. Maybe they were on it?

I was told that Morro is in Mexico at the time... as for rest of usual suspect, I was surprised to miss them as well.

Yes, by Saturday morning, there was a waiting list. I gave up my spot to first in line and was a glad that I did! I could not had helped out if I was playing... Mark always said this event was craziest but I surely got a crash course on how crazy it was.

It was good to see you play and hope you have more opportunity to play. You're going to Reno for USBTC, right?

It was amazing to me that we got down to 48 the first night and I was done by 1030. I'm used to it taking till almost or after midnight to get to 64....

Well run and good job to all of you.

Frank the barber suggested to bring a board to the tourney for all the AZ forum member to sign, which was a brilliant idea but we were practically in the car driving our way to LA. With this year being my first experience with Swanee Memorial, I personally had no clue so many AZ members were playing. And to my surprise, most were great players!

I will definitely plan early for next year and to have a special board for all AZ'ers at Swanee 2011 to sign.

Frank, remind me next year, will ya?

LAMas-- Thanks for the results!

Just wanted to give much, much props to Marshall Jung! I watched him go hill-hill against Parica with a chance to win but missed a
touch cut on the 9. Great player! For sure! It did sting a little when he put me on the 1-loss side (8-0).

Nice finish Marshall!

With my memory I'll have to write myself a note to remind you. Nice job you guys did at the Swanee.

Yes, Just imagine if Marshall made that cut...how different things might have turned out.

I haven't seen Marshall around for the last 2 years since he moved further away and hasn't shot as much or at all. He wasn't goin to go until the last second.

It is a tribute to his good fundamentals that he was abel to pick up where he left off and go as far as he did.

Shuff [sp] in the middle of his match with Marshall said, "Who are you...you shoot good?". Marshall and Greg Harada (young gun) aren't known outside of So. Cal.

Frank, How did you do in the tournament?

The Jointed Cue Tournament in Sacramento is March 20/21.

You have a place to stay if you want to come up for it & room for a couple more too. I'm about 45 minutes away from the pool room.

My regular e-mail is jrhendy39@yahoo.com phone 530-620-1037
