Sweat this rotation game

This is a new game I invented called American Rotation.

Basically its 1 point for balls 1-10, 2pts for balls 11-15, 20 points per rack.
It’s call shot, call safe with option to make opponent shoot again.
After the 1st rack its alternating breaks and the breaker always starts off the rack with ball in hand.
All the same fouls as out typical rotation games.

Sounds great Joe! I heard there's a group of players hanging around Las Vegas that might be interested in forming an American Rotation league. As a "bonus," they already have their uniforms. :D

Joe-was the link to Max Eberle and Ronnie Alcano playing your version during Friday's POV stream?

Sunday Max spoke highly of the new game while commentating. Looks interesting-if two top guys are playing it-might catch on. Sounds like a good rotation game alternative.

Yea Max and Ronnie played 1 game to 150 points. At one point I thought Max was toast, I think he was behind by about 50 points but really stayed in there to to tighten things up at the end. I think Daniel will put it up later on his youtube page so I won't tell ya who won.

I would like for others to start testing it out without me hovering, lol so I have attached the rules and a score sheet (score sheet is in excel and sheet #1 is the normal score sheet sheet #2 is something I would use to put on a dry erase so people could sweat the game better).

Main mission was NOT to replace all of our other games, was NOT to give the public what I think they'll take to but it was to add a new game that I believe can do several things;
Help raise the level of play for people that play it.
Take some luck out of the game, during play and during the break.
Give equal opportunity or closer to equal opportunity for both players.
AND get paid for every ball you MAKE, I really like that

I didn't set out to create a great handicapped game but it did turn out to be one, my wife and I fight tooth and nail 100-30 and I don't really like it.

Enjoy and all feedback welcome.

Hats off to EVERYONE that was involved in that Swanny weekend, what an event 192 players in 2 days!

sounds like fun

Looks interesting.

Last night on the stream I think Max said Rodney beat the 15 ball ghost 11-9, how strong is that!?! Both him and Jay said they had never heard of anyone beating the rotation ghost.

Let us know when the link for Max - Ronnie game is up.

Thanks,
Stan

They said Rodney at first, but soon corrected to mean Ronnie (Alcano).
But yes...no matter who it is, that is strong.

The match between Max and Ronnis is now up on POV's youtube channel in 2 parts here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b-EaeRBzIYs&list=UUgioULMzcmu7m4NVMKt98LA&index=6
along with a lot of other great matches from the Swanny memorial. They did a real good job on playing a brand new game with just about NO notice, lol I just emailed Daniel the rules that day and he gave them to Max who then told Ronnie " So here's what we're gonna do" to which Ronnie replied, "Heads"

This match was to 150 points and it went the distance with a battle for the last rack. 150 is a little long especially when it goes the distance.
A race to 100 points usually goes around 70 minutes but you can race to anything 50,75,100, 2,000 ;)

I trimmed it a bit and put it into 1 video here;

The rules and scoresheets are attached in my reply above.

If you get a chance to play I would love your feedback. I'm interested in everyones thoughts but really looking forward to some higher level player thoughts when they get a chance to play.

How does such a fact get buried in a thread and not celebrated with its own?

Were there cameras rolling?

Joe, just a thought...shouldn't the lower number balls be worth more than the higher balls? Lower balls are a lot harder to make because of the traffic. The last 4 balls should be the easiest to make, and therefore have the lower point value. ???

I tried it a few different ways, one being all balls being equal. I agree the lower numbers are generally tougher but we are starting off with ball in hand. When you play with the last 5 balls being worth 2 points you feel the pain, pleasure and pressure a lil more.

Yes you can play this game on a bar table because we never have to spot balls. If a player scratches the ball stays down and the non offending player gets the points.

racking order

I'm going to give this a try next time I get to a table.

Just wondering why you decided to rack the balls in that order. Is is just for originality or some other reason perhaps?

Main motivation was mostly getting the 1 ball in the middle of the rack to encourage a somewhat hard break. Wanted the 2-3 there so people wouldn't place the 13-14 there.

This is great Joe! I have printed off the score sheets and rules and I will take it to the pool hall I play at and get some guys to try it out. I will let you know how it turns out in a week or two.

Thanks for posting this, I'm always looking to try new games.

BTW Joe, I came up with idea that you might like. I took your score sheet and made it into a 2 foot by 3 foot wall mounted dry erase board. (I printed it out on a piece of styrene and used a dry erase laminate over it)

Now it can be mounted on the wall and used over and over.

If you want I can send you a .tiff file of the artwork that you can take to a local printer and have the same thing done.

Absolutely, thanks. jttenball@gmail.com

I have been doing the same thing, bought a magnetic dry erase, drew the score sheet on there and we slide the magnets (balls) over during the rack then just have to write in the running total. I like what you're doing because I think it might be easier for me to pass it on to other people and rooms. Thanks

Here is the one I am using. I changed it to landscape form, do you want this one or do you just want it the way you had it before?

I have yet to try this , but will very soon! Seems like the best of both 8-ball & 9-ball with a bit of strategy mixed in. Sounds very interesting, I just hope to get some others interested in playing too.
