Hey hey don't be hating ..even if this cue wasn't made by Gus himself as you imply,I bet he would appreciate the effort and proud of the tribute work someone did to make a cue in his style.I would also put the hit of this cue against anything you have in your collection.Come on down to the House of Billiards in Santa Monica and bring your best hitting cue and we can trade shots and stories.haha

i bet this was not a knock off or copy, but a skilled makers proudly made cue. we just have to determine who.

Well buddy why would I say I think I have a Gus Szamboti if I really thought I had a Gus Szamboti?.I acquired this cue from a person who had a vast collection of collectible cues which included Balabuska,Ginacue,Tad,Southwest,Richard Black,Ed prewitt,Palmer,Rambow,Paradise,Corsair,Etc..I've shown this cue as a Gus Szamboti to many knowledgeable people over the years and no one ever told me to question it.So I'm not trying to fool anyone.I proudly presented this cue as I thought it was and not what I wanted someone to believe it was.Have you ever shot with a Gus Szamboti?Well I can tell you how this cue hits. Its a steel jointed cue that doesn't feel like a steel jointed cue.If you were to blindfold someone and let them shoot with it he or she would find it hard to believe it was a steel jointed cue.And well balanced also, so much so, its hard to tell the weight when holding it at times. That's the best way I can describe the hit and feel of this cue so maybe someone out there with a "real"Szamboti can tell me what it should feel like. Btw where do you live?I would still love for you to come out here and hit with this cue.I guarantee you will have no more negative things to say about this cue again Szamboti or no Szamboti. And bring your best hitting piece of lumber with you too.It should be fun.haha

you really didn't just ask joe v if he ever hit with a gus did you?? do a little research on joe v, his playing cue is a gus. and check out his site.

the cue is very nice and i'm sure it plays well, but you need to send it to barry if you want the correct story.

Here is JV's site for a reference...
http://classiccues.com/cues/gusszamboti.htm

And JV happens to know about Gus cues and how they hit.
The Classic Cues booth at VF happens to be a history of classical cues from many makers with a couple of exceptional Gus cues.
But as mentioned, to validate the authenticity of this cue you will need to send it to Barry Szamboti.

Pretty cue but something is just not right for a Gus...
Good luck!

Kind of no.

You dont read so good do you?

I read between the lines. Also having owned a cue that Gus worked on,a Rambo. Retappering the thing and repinning it. And alot of collectors were made aware of this cue out there knowing that all this was so, still couldn't get 1K for the cue! It wasn't a Gus. It wasn't a Rambo. It was a Rambo that Gus repaired and re built. Not a Gus. Not a Rambo. Not a grand either.
Take that for what it is worth.

Nick :)

You still don't get it.

<-----hopes to hear another meaningless rambling story in response.

Was Mark kulungian a business partner in Classiccues?

i ask bc I bought my gus from Mark and I thought it was from the classiccues site that I saw it for sale way back in 1999.

I am no expert on Gus's cues but having hung out in a room where there were a dozen or so of his cues and the fact that Gus and the room owner were freinds and Gus would visit once in a while.
Also the owner of the room had a collection of Gus cues and I got to see them quite often this cue does not look like a real Gus cue to me.

Meucci Gambler??

Now that I took a second look at the pictures it does look like there is a clear coat over the linen that is peeling. And with the butt cap having a finish on it that may just be a Meucci.

Not to give you a hard time, as another poster pointed out there are definately red flags. The joint rings, the shaft nubs, the rounded ivory cards. Not that it isn'ta Gus, but it appears to be unlikely based off the historical record.

Things I cannot see clearly, the points, the ends of the shafts, better view of the brass inserts would help. Barry would be the only way to go for "the" authentification.

Post pics of the individual card inlays. Gus did make a few Gambler cues and there should be enough to see if they match. Use the billiard encyclopedia third edition for reference.

There is a reason no one authenticates from pictures, its just to unreliable. Again, just a few red flags, hey if it is, great, if not, another cue mystery.

Hey Guys,
Not made by Gus... period.
Can't find anything in that butt sleeve that even resembles one.
Might be a great playing cue, but lets not get mixed up..
AZ looks after there own..
Best,
Ken

joe v is right no one in there right mind would give a deffinate nod one way or another without seeing the cue. there also has been cues made by gus that other unscruplus people have added inlays. in the best interest of all who post here and your self , take it to one of the kens here on the forum- or joe v and mark k- pete tasc -n richard black and barry all quite capable of giving a solid answer!when i posted early i was going to have you pull it and have it checked because you being a new poster and knowing how azers can be brutal i :embarrassed2:was trying to save you some grief. tere are alot of flags. but dont give up hope ( no matter what you have a COOL vintage cue)
