I have a 9' table in my home, and would like to get a conversion top for Ping Pong to put over it. I called the local billiard supply and was told that they only work on 8' tables. Does anyone know where I can get a top that will fit a 9'? Thanks.

jay, i have a set that each half is 55 inches long, would that work? you can have it if it does.

Buy 3 - 4' X 8' X 3/4" cabinet grade birch plywood and cut to fit the table. Finished the exposed sides of each table board with 7/8 oak iron on trim. Stain or paint to suit and spray with polyurthene. Rip 4 - 2" X 4" X 42" boards to match the table height from bed to rail. One board supports two table pieces with extra boards at either end of the table to keep the boards off the rail. Table locks are not needed as the table pieces are fairly heavy. Costs about $175.00. If you measure before you cut the boards can be stored under the table.

This also works as a table for large dinners with a leather 9' pool table cover ($100.00). The cover holds the table pieces together and keeps the ping pong table clean. I made 6 matching benches from the scrap and one extra 4 X 8 ($45.00). Use iron on trim for the benches. The benches were stained mahogny to match the Gold Crown III and covered with cushions ($100.00)

Required two days to make and we used last Christmas with 12 people at dinner. I can post a photo if your interested

I purchased one for a pool hall that I worked at last year. Just went down to the local billiard store and selected it out of their catalog. It cost about $200 total. It was actually 2 inches too short. But, we just got a wood plank and inserted into the middle section, and connected the net on top of that. Worked perfectly! Nice thing was that we got the wood planks from the (wood reinforced) cardboard box that the table was shipped in. We just got some spray paint and colored it the same as the table. Our installers actually did that for us. The table plays great! (Exceeded expectations)

Ping pong is a uniquely nice complement to pool. Good to relax the mind and work out the kinks and get those muscles flowing smoothly again. Pool utilizes a lot of smaller, refined, precise, restricted movements, while ping pong utilizes longer, free flowing, extended movements.

I KNOW my speed. I'm like the local room hero who everyone thinks is so good, until a real poolplayer comes in. Than they find out the difference between an amateur and a pro.

At ping pong, I'm the amateur, and I know it. Thanks for all the good suggestions guys.

I think that I would have thought that would have been what you said, so who are you going to practice up for? You most have a mark already picked out to win enough to pay for the conversion a few times over, I'll take two airballs and six regular misses for fifty a game going to eleven if you'll help with the airfair.--Leonard

I am very generous you know

Thanks Guy,
Probably too expensive to ship it here. But thanks anyway.

It's my son in law. He claims to be a past champ. He was the National Junior Karate Champ at age 18, and reperesented the US in the Worlds. So I'm definitely not looking to wrestle with him. 6' tall, 210 well chiseled pounds and movie star handsome. When we go out to dinner, the waitresses flirt right in front of my daughter. She gives them the look that could kill!

Jay,
Say it ain't so! With the demise of the IPT, you haven't given up or retired from our great sport, have you? Did Trudeau do another infomercial on Killerspin??? Or, is that asian zillionaire going to buy the U.S. Ping Pong / Table Tennis Association if internet gaming is unregulated on the 5th Saturday of every odd month? And did Kevin or Deno promise "Real ping pong for real money" Or is it "Real money for real ping pong" ?
Have fun my friend :)

slim's con???

I can see it now. Jay is working on Amarillo Slim’s ping pong with a coke bottle hustle, right, Jay?

Ping pong Top

Hi Jay, great post I might just do the ping pong top thing too, I may as well stink at another sport.

I'm a newbe joined the other day after getting a gold crown 1 that I am working on now.

ping pong will be down the line as the family would have a blast I always enjoyed it in my youth 64 now. Might even get a little exercise out of the thing.

Did you get your ping pong top yet?

Didn't I read where the Matchroom guy wants to go into ping-pong...

Maybe Jay's just setting up future possibilities. :p

the problem is putting on the net since the pool table is the same size as the ping pong.
