Talisman cue tips?

Several years ago I tried Talisman tips and didn't like them that much. I had one delaminate and I really didn't like the hit that well. Recently I bought a cue from Ron Kilby and it had a Talisman tip that I have enjoyed playing with. No delamination and it is holding its shape well. It's a medium hardness. The ones I had years ago were mediums, but played too hard for me. My question is, have Talismans improved since a few years back? Anyone want to offer their opinion on these tips?
 
they're just about the only tip i use. When i'm not experimenting with new tips that is.

i've had 1 delaminate on me but i think that's because i didn't use a sharp enough razor when installing it. they hold chalk and play well in my opinion
 
I think Talisman will always try to improve their product.
I like their tips.
Tip selection is very subjective however.

Just had all of my old playing cues tips replaced with Talismans (thanks Cuebuddy). They seem to hold the chalk well and play fine. Very minor complaint was that I had a few miscues until I had a couple of hours of playing time on the new tips.

Very early Talisman tips had some delamination problems. Talisman Tony replaced any that had problems. I've used them on my playing cue and break cue for a long time. I currently have a medium installed on my playing cue but I've used the med-hard and the hard. Never a problem with them holding chalk or mushrooming.

I have an entire box of Talisman that I have never used. Got them a few years ago. I found that they hit to hard and didnt hold chalk. However a friend that has since passed used to play exclusively with the H of the line and swore by them.

Its all personal preference however. Moving onto Kamui myself.
 
I had one on my cue for a very long while because it held its shape so well, it barely ever needed reshaping, and so it didn't wear down much at all. Then a couple months ago it popped off (glue came undone between tip and ferrule) on a hard draw shot, and I had it replaced with a non-laminated tip since I didn't have a better option immediately available.

You know the saying, you don't know what you've got 'til it's gone? Well, it's true.

I just ordered a box of Talisman Pro Mediums yesterday, and I'm putting one back on my playing cue as soon as they arrive.

I've got Talisman's on several cues. Echoing what others have said, I've never had one delaminate, even with using a cube-type scuffer to shape them when they're new. No mushrooming or glazing. Excellent feel and ability to hit fairly radical english without miscues. Overall, my favorite tip.

Thanks for the replies. Based on what everyone has said, I see no reason for changing out the tips on the two Ron Kilby shafts.

You are very welcome FDC. I have had such great luck with these tips I am surprised they don't show better in the tip polls that we have on this site.:shrug: I placed one on a nasty old house cue that I use on a table at work, I play almost every day with that tip in diesel smoke, dust and the table is lumpy with about every thing a lunch room has in it and its 4 years old. I break with this tip and I break hard and it looks much like it did when I put it on:cool: I pre wet the glue side of the tip after sanding with loctite super glue and put a drop of loctite gel on the ferrule. Then I put a little squeeze on it with the tail stock of my lathe and I have yet to see one come off with out a knife. I like to use spin on about everything and these tips hold chalk very well.
 
yeah i felt like i found a gold mine with these tips. you get 3 for less than 23bones and they play as well as everything out there.
 
The ones i had a few years ago didn't play to well and delaminated on me. i doubt I'll ever try another one.
 
They have been my tip of choice since 2000. I've tried most of the others and see no reason to change.

I want my cues to play the very best they can so I pick the best tip I know of.

I've had 3 or 4 delaminate in 8 years.

Urban legend sells a lot of the other tips.
 
I like the blueish black WB layered tips they make, but have yet to find one of their layered pigskin tips that wouldnt delaminate. Ive even tried the Tiger method of wetting the tip and cutting it on the lathe and had issues.

Them Talisman are good tips. I had 1 delam, but thats about it. I have em on my Viattorre. One is WB (H) and on the other shaft a Pro (M). It's been installed since 3yrs ago and have no issues.

i install mine by hand and haven't had a problem with them delaminating. i just make sure i use a really sharp razor
 
Bought a few Talisman medium and soft. Installed a soft on the OB1 and Schon shaft. Mushroomed slightly after a few games but not again after I took the mushroom off. Lots of action with the soft and holds chalk well.
Very pleased and looking forward to trying the mediums on both shafts.
 
I have one on the Kruger which I used about half a year until my Murrell was ready. Since I liked it, I ordered my custom with Talisman on both shafts, and have played with one shaft for about 1 1/4 years twice a week. The tip is still in great shape - I scratch them a little with my willard every few months, but haven't used up one layer in the time. It doesn't even look thinner than the one on the spare shaft.

I prefer a dime shape which is said to need more maintenance, but the Talisman hold very well.

Hit is subjective as always - but since you seem to like it, it works for you.

For the foreseeable future, I don't plan to use anything else.
