Correct me if wrong but IMO this section of AZ is supposed to be for members that want to ask questions about their pool tables, not a venue to toss off topic bs and insults at each other or show off your latest rail job.

For those IN the trade we have our own breakroom (thanks to Mr Bond) for discussing what we do or showcasing your latest project.

Seems pretty simple.

It is very simple and well said.

I think some just push the envelope for attention.

The front page says "This area is for questions for and conversation between table mechanics". The 'conversation between' gets a little snarky at times. In my opinion, it's about equal between guys that are pushing the buttons, and guys that are too sensitive. A little humor is fun and if it's at my expense that's ok-it'll be at yours next time. The whole world is that way- you're kidding yourself if you think it's going to be different here- and no one is forced participate. Personally, I enjoy all of the pics of the great work, though I can't say if this is the appropriate spot for them or not. I do know that I've learned a lot and been inspired to do better work.

Is there a table and accessories gallery somewhere ?

I kind of think that if it wasn't for quite a few of us showing the kind of work we do...there would be a whole lot of viewers out there that wouldn't know the difference between good work and bad. But, being able to see work posted here on AZ in pictures and explainations to go along with them....they know how the work done on THEIR own pool table(s) stacks up to the quality of work done and shown here;)

Breakroom?

I have the same question as Joey. Is there something we're missing? What is this 'breakroom'? I can't find it in a search. Just curious if I'm missing out-wouldn't be the first time:)

no 'gallery', just a private forum for a group of people in the table business

I agree completely with the RealKingCobra. I enjoy threads that show before and after pictures of tables being refurbished. I've learned a lot reading those threads.

Agree with RKC

How can the consumer know what good work looks like, if they have never seen it?

Excellent point - and the guys that do the good work should showcase it in the Main section of the forum which provides much more visibility then here. A few have done this for the exact reason of showing what top shelf work looks like and giving the typical table owner the knowledge of what should be expected when their table is being serviced. A thread like this one is a perfect example > http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=259421

It's been my experience that many forum members don't get beyond the Main section which is why we see threads there asking technical questions about cloth, cushions, table specs, etc. which should be addressed in this section. Consider the OP more about where to post and not what to post.

Hi Rick, I thought about posting that in the main forum. My threads in the main forum are gone so quickly, there's so many people posting. Glen on the otherhand gets alot of miles in the main forum because people gravitate towards his threads. And this thread I wanted mechanics to see. I get your point though and I have stop posting so many picts.

This section gets so little traffic, any table work should be displayed here.

That's how I got to know Glen and Donny.

That's part of the point. The majority of people are wrapped up in chalk, cases, aiming systems and other often ridiculously repetitive arguments in the main area and most don't know this part of the forum exists. Glen "helped" make a name for himself in the main forum by posting pics from some of his projects. I think Donny has too but those type threads, like most threads, just fade away in time after getting a little mileage.

Regardless, there's a much larger audience in the main forum area that would get more ooohed and aaahed over tidbits like rail calibrations and table rebuilds. I'd think most of the pool table "guys" in this section expect to see top work so probably a bit less of a wow factor here.

And Donny > IMO you should keep posting pics. Just think it would do more good over in the Main area. Most seem to know Snake and they're getting to know more about you and others that take the time to showcase their work.

i personally dont disagree but dartman has a point.
perhaps one sticky for project pics or something along those lines would be cool

That's a good idea and nothing wrong with posting a thread in the main area in addition to adding the identical post in a project pics sticky.

You are exactly correct about forum members not getting beyond the main forum.

I sincerely hope this thread does make some impact and is not buried but brings results. Yes a sticky with work samples is a nice idea. Also recent suggestion about sort of a table mech glossary for the people is good and should be a sticky too. What I would like to see there apart of obvious things is how different pocket openings look like: from 4" to 5" (yes I'm talking about famous two balls in the corner pictures).
